The Grand Union, Westbourne Park

The Union Tavern has recently had a refurb. And most things are better. The green (original) tiling outside is much better than that dreadful grey paint. London Pride is the house ale; there are three or four guests, mostly from other London breweries. A wide selection of craft beer is available also, again mostly London brews. Live blues once a month with house band and guests, rare soul night bi-monthly, meet the brewer events once a month... Monday is £3 a pint for ale and Wednesday is quiz night. I've been using this pub since 1987 when in the area and a regular since 1995 when I moved here and continue to do so.

The Queens Arms, Kilburn

Popped in for a swift Beck's Blue on my way home last night. Is there a by-law that states that all pubs in Kilburn High Rd must charge £3.80 for said item, for which gideon osbourne takes very little due to its meagre alcohol content?

2 Mar 2016 21:51

The Cock Tavern, Kilburn

I quite like The Cock and go there for footy when Angie's II is showing rugby. I may make music night some Thursday. Only downer: Beck's Blue a whopping £3.80!! Other drinks prices were quite reasonable.

2 Mar 2016 21:45

The Cleveland Arms, Bayswater

It's a building site! Mr Singh next door was unable to tell me more, i.e. if it will be a pub again.

2 Mar 2016 21:41

The Cock and Bottle, Notting Hill

Popped in for a swift Beck's Blue (£3) for the first time since re-furb. They haven't done too much vandalism thankfully, although some bar stools would be nice. Richard, the guv'nor of many years, has retired and gone back to Ireland; perhaps he took the portrait of him with him (?) Seems the staff of a few years back have also moved on too. Four real ales, including Sambrook's Wandle. No London Pride. TV just shows rugby and whatever is on terrrestial channels.

2 Mar 2016 21:38

The Cask, Pimlico

Busy pub, even at 4:30pm on a weekday. Not too pricey if you stick with the 4% and under.

31 Dec 2015 11:25

The Kings Head, Acton

Boarded up.

11 Nov 2015 19:05

The Neeld Arms, Maida Vale

Closed.

11 Apr 2015 00:14

The Chippenham, Maida Hill

Closed. Now a pound shop.

11 Apr 2015 00:12

The Worlds End, Camden

We went there on Monday 30th March (as we were coming from the Jazz Café and wanted a drink near the station/bus stop) and arrived around 10.30pm to be told that the pub was closing.

10 Apr 2015 23:57

Shannon's Market Bar, Ladbroke Grove

Soon to become a sushi / Asian fusion / cocktail bar type thing, courtesy of the guys at ukai.

18 Jan 2015 01:30

Shannon's Market Bar, Ladbroke Grove

Apparently re-opened and reverted to its original name of The Golden Cross.

27 Sep 2014 22:02

The Kensington Park, Ladbroke Grove

Have heard t's pricey now, as are all the pubs in Notting Hill.

22 Jan 2014 00:17

The Queens, Primrose Hill

No Sky TV but they have BT Sport. Never had a problem with stafff and the prices are cheaper than other pubs in the area.

1 Jan 2014 23:03

The Kensington Park, Ladbroke Grove

Apparently it has been bought by Vince Power, of Mean Fiddler fame.

9 Dec 2013 00:01

The Prince of Wales, Maida Hill

Now under new management and serving real ale along with the usual suspects – Old Speckled Hen and Rocking Rudolph were on when I visited; other times it has been GKIPA and OSH. Prices good. Pool table. No BT Sport though.

7 Dec 2013 23:49

The Neeld Arms, Maida Vale

Has been done up but not ponced up. Has multiple screens and all the sports channels. The bottled Young's is light ale, there's also Newcy Brown, Guinness, lager and cider.

7 Dec 2013 23:41

Angies Freehouse II, Westbourne Park

No real ale, just keg GKIPA and John Smith's. Think they keep bottles of Spitfire.

7 Dec 2013 23:22

The Western Arms, Kensal Town

Now Playhouse.

9 Sep 2013 15:38

The Blues Kitchen, Camden

Lil Jimmy Reed – typo

9 Sep 2013 00:31

The Blues Kitchen, Camden

Camden Pale Ale on tap a whopping £5, but international touring acts such as Moreland & Arbuckle and Lil' Jimmt Reed (with support from Kat & C o.) ease the pain.

9 Sep 2013 00:30

The Red Lemon, Notting Hill

Re-opening soon.

10 Sep 2012 20:49

The Elgin, Maida Vale

Reopened but just evenings at present. (I think).

10 Sep 2012 20:48

The Elgin, Ladbroke Grove

Sky TV appears to be back, although the sound was off today while some good early reggae was being played. On the pumps were Young's Bitter, Sambrook's Wandle and an IPA I hadn't come accross before.

27 Aug 2012 02:11

The Grand Union, Westbourne Park

Had a fine pint of Redemption Trinity here the other day (3.50).
Also on handpump: Pride, Wild River and some other guests including Hopspur.
Can also vouch for the fish and chips with mushy peas (10).
Since the refub the pub is more disabled friendly: main bar on one, rather than two, levels; spiral staircase replaced by one that is probably easier to negotiate.
Look forward to the open mic nights.

17 Jul 2012 18:50

The Princess of Wales, Primrose Hill

Just two handpumps since the refurb, on my Sunday lunchtime visit there were Greene King IPA and Jennings Cumberland Ale available, although I stuck to the Beck's Blue (0.5% ish) as I hadn't been well (nothing to do with drink, I hasten to add).
London Pride was the only ale the previous time we visited in June and is listed on the menu at not a bad price for the area, so I'd imagine the other ales are priced likewise.
Jazz fans may be interested to note that the Sunday session is now 2-5pm (previously 2-4) and there is an advert for soul-jazz-funk (no band name) for an early evening residency (worth phoning as I can't remember exactly when it is).
No problem with any of the staff. Food we have tried recently: Fish Pie, Fish Fingers, Beefburger were all enjoyed.

17 Jul 2012 17:46

The Earl Percy, Ladbroke Grove

Now Portobello House, Hotel, Bar & Bistro.

14 Mar 2012 23:05

Elephant and Castle, Maida Hill

Shut.

14 Mar 2012 01:43

The Castle, Acton

Three ales on tap: Pride (as always) plus last weekend Mighty Atom & Bengal Lancer IPA. Top quality jazz is back on the first and third Sunday each month.

8 Nov 2011 19:47

The Kings Head, Islington

Pride, Doom Bar and Spitfire currently on draught.

17 Oct 2011 13:25

The Duchess of Cambridge, Stamford Brook

London Drinker has the address at 320 Goldhawk Rd, W6 0XF.

12 Oct 2011 18:34

The Grove, Ealing

Update on facilities/features: Live jazz last Saturday of each month, no pool table or TV that I could see. GKIPA, Abbott and guest ales.

4 Aug 2011 17:02

The Golborne Grove, Ladbroke Grove

Now the Earl of Portobello (originally the Earl of Warwick if memory serves correctly).

2 Jun 2011 22:33

The Fat Badger, Notting Hill

Now Pizza East.

2 Jun 2011 22:30

The Queens, Primrose Hill

Refurbished, reopened and rammed on Sunday afternoon. Young's ord (3.15), Special, Bomba, Directors and Doom Bar on the pumps.

8 Nov 2010 22:39

The Princess of Wales, Primrose Hill

Pleased to report that nothing much has changed. The best jazz musicians in Great Britain Jim Mullen, Art Themen, Terry Smith backed by a serious quality house trio on Sunday afternoons. Pride a v reasonable 3 (for London). Changes since my last visit seem to be that Italian food is a speciality and the staff are now all in black. Like the Double Deckers (ft Brinsley Forde) used to say, SEE YOU NEXT WEEK! (and the week after)

24 Oct 2010 20:15

The Queens, Primrose Hill

Does the job for us: we do Primrose Hill for the jazz sess at the Princess of Wales and very happy to pop in here for footy b4 or after. Modernised Young's pub with food slant (like most pubs in this manor, and why not?) but caters for all comers. Decent ale (bitter/special) and wine. Will be back after the refurb.

24 Oct 2010 20:00

The Coach and Horses, Beckenham

Busy yesterday afternoon with football on one TV and rugby on the other. Mostly over 40s crowd. Young's bitter (3.10), Courage Best, Spitfire & Hobgoblin on the pumps.

17 Oct 2010 01:14

The Half Moon, Putney

I used to be a regular here in the 1980s and enjoyed both of my visits (so far) this year. Glad to see it continuing and thriving as a regular live music venue and the Young's Bitter (2.95) was fine.

7 Oct 2010 00:46

The Princess of Wales, Primrose Hill

Freehold up for auction according to Evening Standard, also noting that the 'Banksy' in the yard is probably a fake. Fingers crossed that it remains an ale and jazz pub.

5 Oct 2010 17:55

The Portobello Star, Portobello Road

More of a cocktail bar these days although it does Guinness and lager in pints.

4 Oct 2010 22:39

The Misty Moon, Harlesden

Popped in for the Chels/Arse game on the BIG screen. Courage Best OK @ 2.70 and nice atmos in neutral territory. This cinema conversion has trib bands at weekends and local history pics and film memorabilia on walls. Staff fine; Gents likewise.

3 Oct 2010 19:24

The Coach and Horses, Isleworth

jazzinlondon.net states that the C&H will be refurbished early Oct.
Look fwd to visiting next year to hear some excellent jazz from Trevor Tomkins & co., drink reasonably priced ale and admire the good taste of the sensitive refurb.

24 Sep 2010 15:19

The Red Lemon, Notting Hill

Shut yet again - the 4th or 5th time this century? Repo order on door.

22 Sep 2010 12:26

The Village Inn, Kensal Town

Walked past during my 24 (ish) hour post Carnival detox. Is now called Frames. Still looks like a pub/B&B.

31 Aug 2010 21:47

The Three Tuns, Marylebone

Enjoyed the Young's Gold (2.70) while watching Holland/Uruguay. Service good; frontage has been redone since photo; other than that in agreement on the pub/drinking with the 4 reviews below.

10 Jul 2010 02:37

Charlotte Street Blues, Fitzrovia

Sadly draught is just Beck's Vier and Mortlake Bud now. Some good bands on.

10 Jul 2010 02:29

The Falcon, Queens Park

Ruddles smoooooth (3) and Budvar on tap along with the usual suspects (no cask); oi'll give it foive.

20 Jun 2010 11:19

The Seven Stars, West Kensington

Looks shut passed by on bus.

13 May 2010 22:29

The Castle, Acton

Large pub with covered patio (with TV) and unsheltered garden area, separate dining area at back, Sky and ESPN, Pride (3.10) and ESB on the pumps. Efficient and friendly service. Didn't see any music listings my visits to this area are generally early-midweek evenings so don't know what crazy Fridays are like.

14 Apr 2010 10:37

The Kensington Park, Ladbroke Grove

Looked open for business, Guinness and pool when I bussed it passed today. Posters advertising footy on TV and music events.

7 Apr 2010 17:40

The Elgin, Ladbroke Grove

Update on facilities: Live Music 3-4 x a week; no Sky/big screen; no karaoke; no pool table; not sure about fruities/quiz machines; late license under application; real ale was Sambrook's Wandle, Twickenham Naked Ladies, Redemption PA & Dark and Adnams Explorer.
An excellent show from Bonfanti-Milner celebrating Muddy Waters' birthday (4 April) accompanied by some interesting beers I hadn't tried before.

5 Apr 2010 09:36

The Blues Kitchen, Camden

The latest addition to London's blues bars making it four. Some excellent bands. Draught Guinness (3.50 pint), Amstel & Kronenburg.

24 Feb 2010 11:45

The Queens Arms, Kilburn

Three room pub (public bar, saloon bar, dining/function area) with Sky Sports (not sure about ESPN), occasional music. A good pint of Young's bitter (I think Special and Bombadier are also available). Menu is British pub food plus some European dishes and well priced and the fish & chips were fine.

15 Feb 2010 14:29

The Golborne Grove, Ladbroke Grove

Renamed Portobello Bridge sometime last year and is currently shut. Enterprise Inns are looking for a new tenant/leaseholder. According to their website The Portobello Bridge is located in the highly desirable East London suburb of Ladbroke Grove. :-)

19 Jan 2010 23:28

The King's Head, Kilburn

Yes, a mistake in the entry: what was McGovern's is now The King's Head, with Elvis's head as their sign. Grecian's review below is accurate; Guinness is 3.40.

13 Sep 2009 22:54

Charlotte Street Blues, Fitzrovia

A welcome addition to London's live music scene with nightly blues and related music and a Gospel Brunch on Sundays. Guinness (3.20), Bud and Hoegy on tap.

12 Jul 2009 18:37

Windsor Castle, Maida Vale

Sadly closed today, have heard Enterprise Inns have sold it and not sure it will ever be a pub again.

16 Jun 2009 21:07

The Grand Junction Arms, Harlesden

Jazz is back on Sundays, 2-4pm and the band were excellent yesterday (and the Young's didn't run out although I did my best).

24 Nov 2008 20:18

The Tavistock Arms, Westbourne Park

Now reverted to original name of Tavistock Arms. Wants to be a proper pub again. No real ale though. Main courses mostly under a tenner (apart from steak). Live music & DJs promised in future.

22 Apr 2008 17:50

The Metropolitan, Westbourne Park

Quite a bit happening here music wise at the mo: open mic on Tues, live music nights, DJs on Fris and Suns. Only one real ale on at present (which revolves) and sensitive souls need to know that it's three quid a pint. Roasts and fish and chips got the thumbs up also and the service was friendly and efficient.

19 Feb 2008 16:15

The Red Lemon, Notting Hill

Shut yet again - the 3rd or 4th time this century? Repo order on door.

26 Oct 2007 16:07

The Constitution, Lisson Grove

Traditional one room pub with carpeted floor - a rarity these days and a remarkably clean carpet it is too. No real ale on day of visit but there is a hand pump. The meaty menu (roasts, pies, etc.) looks very reasonably priced with discounts for OAPs, students and kids - although there is also an 'over 21s only' sign on the door. Not sure if food is available all day (no one was eating when we visited early evening). Some outdoor seating.
The Odyssey Blues Band appear one Friday a month at the unusual time of 5.30 - 8pm. Well worth a visit then.

18 Aug 2007 14:48

The Tavistock Arms, Westbourne Park

Yawn, yet another name change - Crescent House - at least the fifth.

16 Jul 2007 16:28

The Grand Junction Arms, Harlesden

Top quality jazz on Sundays (2pm), Sky Sports (in other bar), good quality Youngs bitter - 2.35 a pint is very reasonable by London standards - it gets my vote and we'll be back.

17 Nov 2006 17:06

The Red Lion, Kilburn

Great music night on Thursdays, with the Blues of Cain, playing a mix of 60s - 80s covers.
CARA pub (Campaign AGAINST Real Ale).

3 Nov 2006 15:03

The Fat Badger, Notting Hill

Yet another name change: the Fat Badger!

30 Oct 2006 15:56

The Green Room, Fulham

Historical note: it used to be called The Rising Sun and 100 years ago Chelsea FC was founded here.
Have visited on a match day, IPA was OK but in plastic and the wine OK.

8 Aug 2006 17:40

The Red Lemon, Notting Hill

Has reopened. We passed by and noticed there was Pride on tap. The lighting is VERY bright so wear shades!

8 Aug 2006 17:11

The Grand Union, Westbourne Park

Note to scousemouse, re comment below. I counted two ales (Pride and ESB) and two gents, one cubicle on the ground floor and urinals and a cubicle in the basement.

3 Mar 2006 16:55

The Fat Badger, Notting Hill

Looks like it wants to be a pub again and revert to the Carnarvon Castle name. There's still enough old wood in there left.

31 Jan 2006 16:28

The Cock and Bottle, Notting Hill

Agree with all comments below.

31 Jan 2006 16:21

The Duke Of Wellington, Portobello Road

Correction. The Elgin has Youg's bitter, it's the same 2.55 and, no surprise, it tastes better in the Young's pub.

21 Jan 2006 01:40

The Tavistock Arms, Westbourne Park

I think you'll find it's called THE MOTHER BLACKCAP. The name comes from the name of the pub in Withnail and I (this pub, which was the Frog & Firkin at the time, b4 that the Tavistock Arms, if my beer adddled memory serves me correctly). Run by CARA (campaign AGAINST real ale), pricey Guinness or lagers then but the music night on Thursdays is worth a look. My mate Jas sez that barmaid Sabina is a babe.

21 Jan 2006 01:38

The Alexandra, Wimbledon

Further to below comment they played Howlin' Wolf's "Smokestack Lightnin'"" which pleased us.
(I spelt visited wrong.)

10 Dec 2005 12:06

The Alexandra, Wimbledon

We visted the other day for lunch. The Youngs bitter, house white and the fish & chips were all fine. Food portions were large and the cost wasn't too evil by London standards.
Will go here again (I don't live southside no' mo). It's certainly my fave place to eat and drink in Wimbledon.
Staff were OK. It's pretty pointless to complain about staff in london pubs anyway, as they tend to only last a few weeks on average.

10 Dec 2005 11:50

The Hammersmith Ram, Hammersmith

Some great blues duos.

26 Aug 2005 14:17

The Goldsmiths Arms, Acton

The (almost) once a month acoustic blues night is another good reason to come here. Top quality artists from the US and the UK.
