The Somerstown Coffee House, Euston

Decent choice of pales and bitters, no milds or stouts. Barman slightly aloof. Wine bar feel. Gastro trendy food. Expensive though. Be warned £2.35 a half! Can't fault the quality of the beer though. 6 out of 10.

Parcel Yard, Leicester

Pleasant staff when I visited recently. Tap for Steamin Billy brewery. Very nice beer had their house bitter. Some craft on as well as cask. 7/10

7 Mar 2016 19:20

Globe, Chelmsford

Quieter than I was expecting. Beer kept well. Sky Sports showing. Friendly barman.

11 Jul 2013 09:06

The Black Bull, Chelmsford

Two ales on when i visited after attending Chelmsfords beer festival across the road. I had the Woodfordes Wherry which was well kept. Friendly barmaid.

11 Jul 2013 08:54

The Original Plough, Chelmsford

Decent enough place. Popped in for a pint and a sausage bap prior to visiting Chelmsford Beer Festival. The Moorhouse Black Cat was in fine nick and the sausage bap was cooked well too. Sky Sports showing the cricket, so my brief visit was worth while. Barman friendly and food was promptly served.

11 Jul 2013 08:47

Barista, Chelmsford

Not my cup of tea. Drink was fine, staff were pleasant enough but something just didn't seem right about the place. I know it is in the GBBG but far better pubs in the immediate area. More of a wine bar feel to the place IMHO

11 Jul 2013 08:42

The Cask and Glass, Victoria

Friendly staff and landlady. Just had a swift half of Master Brew at £1.80 which was faultless. Sat outside in the sun and quite popular with workers, locals and tourists alike. Will visit again next time I'm in the area.

22 Jun 2013 07:19

The Buckingham Arms, Westminster

Service was friendly and prompt on my visit. had a Youngs Bitter and a Youngs Special at reasonable prices for this area of the city. Worth a visit if you a passing by but something appeared to be lacking in the atmosphere of the place somehow.

22 Jun 2013 07:16

Adam and Eve, Westminster

Another hit and miss pub in my opinion. Staff friendly enough, but something seemed to be lacking in the place. Half a London Pride at £1.93 which tasted reasonably well. Not one I'd rush back to in a hurry

22 Jun 2013 07:12

The Feathers, St James's

Hit and miss in my opinion. A pack of crisps and a half of Harviestoun Engine oil £3! Not the best of service on my visit, especially a supervisor rollocking a member of barstaff in full view of the customers!

22 Jun 2013 07:09

The Sanctuary House, Westminster

Rather like a Wetherspoons in respect except for sport on the Tv and serving Fullers instead of GK fayre. Pleasant enough anyhow. Had a half of Chiswick at £1.80 and an ESB at £2.08. At lunchtime when I visited were plenty of chaps and lasses in black suits with brief cases talking yuppyesque, but once they departed it felt more tranquil. Worth a visit if in the area.

22 Jun 2013 07:04

The Speaker, Westminster

Crowded on my visit with diners and drinkers alike. I had a Hexamshire Blackhall Stout at £3.65 I think? and a Woodefordes Wherry at £1.85 a half. Less choice than I expected but both beers were in good order. Friendly staff and patient staff too in having to deal with a rather stubborn nay arrogant Scandanavian chap during my supping session.

22 Jun 2013 06:57

The Jugged Hare, Pimlico

Friendly enough place on my recent visit. Had a Fullers Brewers Bragg at £1.83 a half and an ESB at £1..98. Glorious sunny day on my visit and a nice sun-trap of a beer garden.

22 Jun 2013 06:50

CASK Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico

Decent barman who knew his stuff and pleasant barmaid on my recent visit. Had a Tempest Cresta Black and a Tyne Bank Monument Bitter both in good nick and both £1.95 a half. Pricey for some but if its quality its worth it. Layout of the pub was a bit vacant and sparse. The only thing spoiling it for me was some chap at the bar cracking terrible jokes to the barmaid, well cringe worthy! Other than that a must if you are in Pimlico.

22 Jun 2013 06:47

The Square, Nottingham

Popped in yesterday. Had a decent pint of Marstons Pedigree. Bit too dark for my liking, concentrating mainly on meals during the midday to early afternoon session.

7 Jun 2013 11:07

The Bell Inn, Nottingham

Always a must for me when I pop into town. Friendly barmaid in the back room, decent choice of ales other than the GK range. Had the Nottingham Bell Inn Bitter and the Cotswold Lion, both in good nick! Breakfast well priced at £3.95 as well.

7 Jun 2013 11:03

The Roebuck Inn, Nottingham

Popped in yesterday early doors. Friendly barmaid served me a well kept Nottingham EPA. Busy doing breakfasts and those dreaded continental coffees. CAMRA discount. Worth a visit.

7 Jun 2013 11:00

The Approach, Nottingham

Went in recently again as they now sell Navigation Brewery ales. However, yesterday, my pint of Navigation Pale was warm. Only other option was the Hobgoblin which my friend had and that was warm too. Two barmaids serving customers whilst using their mobile phones was not encouraging either. Usally a bloody good pub with quality ales, but certainly lacking yesterday!

7 Jun 2013 10:57

The Dog and Duck, Soho

Was a mid afternoon when I called in recently and I guessed I had just missed the lunchtime rush. Seven pumps were on and I necked a good pint of Orkney Dark Island at £3.80 Barman was pleasant enough. I would call back again if I'm in the vacinity. 7/10

24 Feb 2013 16:14

The Crown, Soho

A Nicholsons pub near Soho. Usual kind of thing to expext now from a chain pub. Barmaid was friendly and I'd have to agree about the stairs to the toilets as mentioned by the previous poster. From around half a dozen hand pumps I tackled the Harviestoun Old Engine Oil porter at £3.90 which was a well kept pint. 6/10

24 Feb 2013 16:09

The Coach and Horses, Mayfair

Popped in of a lunchtime and was rather busy. From 4 handpumps I had a pint of Hogs Back T.E.A at £3.90. Besides being a weebit cramped, the only other drawback was a group of half a dozen blokes blocking the entrance to the toiletsdespite being not to stand there by the barmaid/landlady. Worth a visit if in the area. 6/10

24 Feb 2013 16:01

The Windmill, Mayfair

When I called in in was lunchtime and extremely busy. Has a reputation for decent pies! Had a well kept pint of Twickenham Grandstand Bitter at £3.60 from a choice of half a dozen hand pumps. Unfortunately, I had to stand next to some elderly business men who swore like troopers oblivious to whoever was around them. I'd call in again but probably later in the day when its less busier. 7/10

24 Feb 2013 15:51

The Argyll Arms, Oxford Circus

Quite disappointed too be honest when I called in here. Had a nice enough pint of London Pride at £3.90 and there were around 10-12 hand pumps on,albeit some of duplicates of Pride etc... Drawbacks, staff didn't seem that interested, atmosphere in the pub was quite dour and somewhat pricey, especially the Thornbridge Jaipur which was on too. Its in the GBG2013 and IMHO needs to try a wee bit harder. 5/10

24 Feb 2013 15:44

The Carpenters Arms, Marble Arch

Popped in on my last visit to London. Pint of Harveys Sussex Bitter at £3.50, cheap for London and pint was spot on. Two brash talking chaps were talking to the barman/landlord using some colourful language to say the least which at 11.30 in the morning I could have done without. Tucked away from the main drag and i'd visit again. 7/10

24 Feb 2013 15:38

The Melton Mowbray, Holborn

Popped in here for a swift one prior to catching a bus back up to St Pancras. Nice pint of Chiswick Bitter and bar staff were helpful in pointing me in the right direction of my bus stop. 6/10

27 Jan 2013 16:11

The Castle, Holborn

Enjoyed a brief visit here and a nice Redcar Biter. Nice barmaid and friendly. Quite empty for a mid afternoon. Will visit again when in the area. 7/10

27 Jan 2013 15:50

The Knights Templar, Chancery Lane

Mixed bag of customers for this JDW pub. Not my cup of tea to be honest. However, decent ales and a decent London Pride. 6/10

27 Jan 2013 15:45

The Devereux, Temple

Nice enough Shepherds Neame boozer with the usual ale range. People eating and drinking. Nice friendly barmaid to talk too and some chatty regulars too. Spitfire was knob on too! Will be back! 7/10

27 Jan 2013 15:37

The Edgar Wallace, Temple

Decent enough pub. Plenty of people eating. Friendly staff. Expensive mind you. A well kept Old Hooky at 3.90 a pint! Would go back though. 7/10

27 Jan 2013 15:33

The Coal Hole, Strand

Not that busy when I popped in during the early afternoon recently. Friendly enough staff and decent choice of ales. Nice pint of Thwaites Nutty Black, but fairly expensive for a 3.3% abv ale, almost 4 quid! Worth a visit though. 6/10

27 Jan 2013 15:18

The Harp, Covent Garden

Decent pub, barmaid and choice of ales. Harveys Sussex Bitter in good nick when I called in recently. Adorned with pump clips from the many ales had there over the years. 8/10

27 Jan 2013 15:10

The Ship and Shovell, Charing Cross

Nice pleasant pub with a decent choice of ales. King & Barnes Sussex Bitter in good order. Didn't eat but food looked good. Friendly staff. Worth a visit. 7/10

27 Jan 2013 15:02

The Sherlock Holmes, Charing Cross

Friendly enough barman on when I visited. Themed pub for Sherlock Holmes fans. GK beers and a "Sherlock Holmes Ale" which in fact is actually Morland Original! Worth a quick pit-stop but wouldn't be a regular haunt of mine. 5/10

27 Jan 2013 14:56

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

Not a bad JDW pub at all. Pleasant, friendly staff. Beer kept in fine condition. Quite dark the place is, which would be my only gripe but, worth a visit if in the Trafalgar Square/Mall area.

27 Jan 2013 14:48

Lime Kiln, Liverpool

Seemingly in the middle of club & theme pub land, a hidden gem during a lunchtime. Barman asked if we were Camra members -which we were- and gave us a discount. Two decent pints were consumed. Of an evening I can't comment, but I would guess with the pubs/clubs next door it might be totally different? Worth a visit of a lunchtime though!

10 Dec 2012 10:56

Globe, Liverpool

Decent small traditional boozer and served by a welcoming landlady. Very decent pint. Locals friendly and chatty. Well worth a call.

10 Dec 2012 10:46

Crown, Liverpool

Nice friendly welcome off the barmaid when we entered having just got off our train next door at Lime Street. Had a well kept Marstons EPA. Interior was a splendid design. Customers were a mixed bag and very friendly. Certainly better in here than the JDW across the road. Will be our first port of call next time on Merseyside.

10 Dec 2012 10:38

Richard John Blackler, Liverpool

Without doubt probably the worst JDW that I've been in on my festival crawls up and down the country. We went in as it appears in the GBG 2013 and how it made it in there is beyond me. Besides the usual fodder ie) Abbots etc... there was half a dozen handpumps dispensing ale. After a seemingly endless wait, we got served by a blonde lady dressed differently to the staff -so I guess management or supervisor- and when we asked for a pint of two different ales, her reply was a curt "Only got that one on!" My mate asked her why she had not turned the pump clips round she just sneered. We had a pint of Abbots instead and swiftly left the place. Full of rough and ready customers and certainly not as friendly as the Crown where we first went after getting of the train. Out of 80 or so JDW I've been in it is definately the worst!

10 Dec 2012 10:29

O'Neills, Soho

over crowded, very boisterous inside and outside, mind you it was a saturday evening! unfortunately the cask ale was warm! had a similar problem recently too at its sister pub on the Euston Road! Won't rush back again in a hurry.

9 Aug 2012 15:23

The Central Bar, Shepherds Bush

decent pint of cask when we visited recently. however, very noisy, overcrowded and some people trying to queue jump into getting served first. not too overly impressed with the place but i've seen a lot worse from JDW.

9 Aug 2012 15:19

Vesbar, Shepherds Bush

now called the Vandella and serving London Pride on keg during our visit recently. didn't have a pub feeling about the place, had a kind of wine bar type of feel instead. easily the poorest of the recent Fullers pubs i've been in.

9 Aug 2012 15:16

The Hammersmith Ram, Hammersmith

seemed an okay pub when we visited recently. obviously must have visited on a good day going by the previous reviews. beer was fine and staff polite.

9 Aug 2012 15:11

The Plough and Harrow, Hammersmith

without a doubt the better of the two JDW's in Hammersmith. Pleasant staff, mixed clientle etc.... certainly better than the den of iniquity sister pub down the road.

9 Aug 2012 15:08

The William Morris, Hammersmith

i've visited many JDW pubs on my travels around England but this pub definately IMO has the most useless and ignorant bunch of bar staff i have probably ever come across. Wimbledon ladies final was on the TV when we visited and the Eastern European guy serving me stopped pulling my pint to watch the tennis! He and his friend hardly spoke English and many customers where clearly fed up with the way in which they were treated when they eventually got served. I don't normally give out gloom and doom summaries but this place is one to miss!

9 Aug 2012 15:03

The Mill Hill, Acton

visited recently and it seemed a friendly enough locals kind of pub. barmaid was very pleasant. unfortunately only Tetleys smooth and no cask ales.

9 Aug 2012 14:51

The Red Lion and Pineapple, Acton

had no problems in getting served in here on a rather packed saturday afternoon recently. beer was fine and staff friendly enough. mixed bunch of locals and would visit again.

9 Aug 2012 14:49

The North Star, Ealing

Called in on the way back to the station after attending Ealing beer festival recently. Seemed a bit OTT to me in trying to be something it clearly wasn't in my opinion. Focus seemed to be more concerned on food rather than beer and attempting to get to the toilets through the over cramped dining room did not help either. Not the worst of pubs and by no means the best. As my old school report used to say, "Could do better" & "room for improvement!"

9 Aug 2012 14:45

Red Lion, Ealing

we visited this pub after Ealing beer festival and a nice pub it was. photos of old Ealing film stars adorned the walls and a good range of Fullers ales with the guest being Castle Rock Elsie Mo which made us chuckle seeing as we came down 140 miles from Notts. Worth a visit.

9 Aug 2012 14:40

Sir Michael Balcon, Ealing

went in prior to the Ealing beer festival recently. Never had a problem with the staff or the drink. Typical JDW and a decent pint of London Pride.

9 Aug 2012 14:37

The White Swan Hotel / Good Companions bar, Stratford Upon Avon

Pricey but decent pint of London Pride. No doubt to cover the cost of the 3,000,000 refurbishment. Decent menu though which is priced ok.

24 Jun 2012 11:01

The Queens Head, Stratford Upon Avon

Seemingly a locals pub. Decent pint. No great shakes but would use again.

24 Jun 2012 10:57

The Pen and Parchment, Stratford Upon Avon

Seemingly less food choice now since our previous visit a year ago. Still nice food and decent pint.

24 Jun 2012 10:55

The One Elm, Stratford Upon Avon

Nice pub. Spacious areas to sit. Nice pint of Purity Gold.

24 Jun 2012 10:53

The Old Thatch Tavern, Stratford Upon Avon

Came back again and still a cracking pub. Now owned by Fullers and a cracking pint of London Pride.

24 Jun 2012 10:51

The Oddfellows Arms, Stratford Upon Avon

Only one ale on when we called in, Marstons EPA. Mainly all the trendy lagers etc... on tap. Not my kind of pub.

24 Jun 2012 10:49

The Lamplighters, Stratford Upon Avon

Just one Davenports when we visited. Locals pub. A bit run down. Won't be back in a rush though.

24 Jun 2012 10:46

The Lazy Cow, Stratford Upon Avon

If you want a quiet drink this is not the place for you. Went in and within five minutes a band was practising upstairs and a conversation was impossible to conduct. Pricey as well. Won't be back in a hurry!

24 Jun 2012 10:39

Wetherspoons, Victoria Station

Busy pub because of its location. Stereotypical like most other pubs in the chain.

24 Jun 2012 10:07

Willow Walk, Victoria

Usual Wetherspoons. Not more to say really. Decent beer and staff.

24 Jun 2012 10:05

The Zetland Arms, South Kensington

Pretentious customers on our visit. Kind of a throwback to the yuppy brigade era and ok ya types. Staff not exactly hospitable either. Won't be back soon at all.

24 Jun 2012 10:02

The Courtfield, Earls Court

Aussie Rules on the TV when we went in and 4.05 for a pint of London Pride. Bit of a brash pub. Not top of my list for a return visit..

24 Jun 2012 10:00

The Oyster Rooms, Fulham

Usual kind of Wetherspoons. Location makes it extremely busy.

24 Jun 2012 09:57

The Eight Bells, Putney Bridge

Nipped in for a swift half on the way to the station and all I can say is its a proper boozer! Friendly barmaid and friendly locals. Will definately visit again if in the Putney area.

24 Jun 2012 09:55

The Rocket , Putney

Wasn't impressed with the decour at all. Over done for a spoons unless it is trying to attract soley the suit and braces brigade? Decent pint though. Not my cup of tea to be honest.

24 Jun 2012 09:53

The Railway, Putney

Typical Wetherspoons pub. Friendly staff. Decent London Pride and usual type of clientele.

24 Jun 2012 09:49

The Wibbas Down Inn, Wimbledon

Average Spoons pub with a decent pint of London Pride. Had a chat with a rather enthusiastic local which was rather entertaining. Would visit again!

24 Jun 2012 09:46

The Watchman, New Malden

Different style of Wetherspoons in an old police station. Decent pint of Brains SA.

24 Jun 2012 09:42

The Kings Tun, Kingston Upon Thames

Not the best of Wetherspoons but by no means the worst either. Decent pint of Thornbridge Brock on my last visit. Mixed bags of customers. Typical average Spoons.

24 Jun 2012 09:37

The Edward Rayne, Raynes Park

no problems at all here. decent selection of ales and staff nice. better than average spoons pub.

24 Jun 2012 09:29

Acorn Inn, Lichfield

Not a bad place. Certainly better than average JDW pub. Decent ales.

12 Feb 2012 10:46

The Seven Oaks, Manchester

Popped in after National winter Ales Festival. More of a locals feel to the place. Beer was fine, staff friendly, locals pleasant enough and sport on TV.

12 Feb 2012 10:39

The Old Monkey, Manchester

I never visited the pub before the modernisation so can't comment on that, but seemed a decent pub, decent pint, friendly lass behind the bar. Good pub!

12 Feb 2012 10:36

The Grey Horse Inn, Manchester

Lovely pint of Hydes original when we visited. Barmaid friendly enough but the language of the Irish guy (owner?) was slightly on the fruity side! Will visit again though.

12 Feb 2012 10:33

The Circus Tavern, Manchester

Very, very small pub. Popped in here when the National Winter Ales festival was on. Decent enough but don't expect to be seated!

12 Feb 2012 10:29

The Tap 'n' Tumbler, Nottingham

Seemed a bit "clique" to me. Staff friendly enough but regulars were indifferent.

17 Jan 2012 11:08

The Pit and Pendulum, Nottingham

Strange kind of place. Half the handpump clips turned round even though chalkboards were still advertising said ales! Barman seemed to have taken something to make him jolly. Toilets? Haha, I'll let you find them!

17 Jan 2012 11:03

Bunkers Hill Inn, Nottingham

Decent enough place, good choice of ales.

17 Jan 2012 11:00

The Orange Tree, Nottingham

tend to agree with the last poster with exception to being "not overly expensive" I had a Castle Rock Harvest Pale and was charged 3.10 which without doubt is the most expensive pint of Harvest I have experinced in Notts & Derbys. Other than that I agree with nivramkram.

17 Jan 2012 10:59

Lloyds No.1, Nottingham

Not bad for a JDW, only drawback for me was that music on a Friday afternoon was way too loud!

17 Jan 2012 10:49

The Keans Head, Nottingham

Nice beers and choice. Good place though sometimes some of the clientele think some of the other customers are beneath them. Will be back

17 Jan 2012 10:48

The Horn in Hand, Nottingham

Student orientated pub. Only keg in here. Average place.

17 Jan 2012 10:46

Hog's Head, Nottingham

Not too much change since it was Hogs except better choice of ales. Camra Discount now too!

17 Jan 2012 10:45

The Blue Bell, Nottingham

Nowt too special except the prices. average place in my opinion.

17 Jan 2012 10:41

Congress Inn, Stoke on Trent

won Potteries pub of the year 2011 by all accounts. Very busy when we called in last saturday afternoon. Stoke City playing on TV so full house and a good choice of ales. Worth a visit.

17 Jan 2012 10:39

The Last Post, Longton

Nice place. Ales on draught and sport on several tv's. Gives the impression that its part of a chain.

17 Jan 2012 10:37

The White Star, Stoke-on-Trent

Titanic Brewery tap. Biggish pub and good choice of ales which were well maintained. Definately worth a visit!

17 Jan 2012 10:33

The Wheatsheaf, Stoke on Trent

Friendly JDW house. Mixed bag of customers. Been in better Spoons houses but been on a lot worse. Worth a look in for the ales!

17 Jan 2012 10:31

The Sutherland Arms, Stoke on Trent

Made very welcome by the landlady here. Five minutes walk up London Road and a few ales on. Had a flawless drink of Marstons Pedigree. Worth the walk!

17 Jan 2012 10:29

Staff of Life, Stoke on Trent

Mixed bag of customers but very pleasant. Nice drop of Joules Pale Ale, Horse Racing on on TV and Footie on the other. Nice place and ales!

17 Jan 2012 10:27

Kings Arms, Stoke on Trent

Open again and a bit of a dive. Now a Carlsberg pub with no handpumps and a clientele a bit rough round the edges. The only good point.... The Staffie is next door!

17 Jan 2012 10:25

The Glebe, Stoke on Trent

Went in about 2pm last saturday and only about 5 or 6 people in there. Spacious enough, nice layout etc... Had a nice Joules Blonde, place was not my cup of tea but well worth a visit just for the ales.

17 Jan 2012 10:22

The Commercial Inn, Stoke on Trent

Almost 6 years since the last review and really nothing to write home about is this pub. It had a very local feel, smelled a wee bit, only Hobgoblin on tap which was ok, selling Smiths and Strongbow out of cans! Disappointing and a place I'd give a miss to next time. Used to decent apparently not so long ago?

17 Jan 2012 10:19

The Beehive, Penkhull

Friendly welcome when we got here up the steep hills from the nearby "Albert" and some decent ales at this Marstons house. Had the Jennings Soggy Bottom which was devine. Worth the visit if you can make it up the hill!

17 Jan 2012 10:16

The Ship Inn, Sheffield

Seemingly a locals pub. Had a good pint of Abbeydale Deception on my last visit.

5 Dec 2011 20:35

The Betjeman Arms, St Pancras International Station

Popped in upon our arrival at St Pancras. Nice pint of Youngs at 3.70 which ain't too high in price considering a big station. The layoutof the place could have been better.

5 Dec 2011 20:28

The Crown Tavern, Clerkenwell

Nice enough place but quite pricey for some folk. Welconig though and pleasant enough.

5 Dec 2011 20:14

Castle, Farringdon

Decent choice of ales and continental beers. Not my cup of tea this pub but welcoming.

5 Dec 2011 20:11

The Gunmakers, Clerkenwell

Called in last saturday on a visit to London. Beer festival was on with high ABV beers. Nice place but seemingly selling more meals and wines than ale when I was in.

5 Dec 2011 20:08

The Eagle, Clerkenwell

More bistro than bar. Pleasant enough and two halves only 3. Ideal if you fancy a Mediterranean style meal.

5 Dec 2011 20:06

The City Pride, Clerkenwell

On our visit to London we popped in last saturday afternoon. Sports TV orientated. For a Fullers pub surprisingly no London Pride! Did have Bengal Lancer in fine fettle. Staff welcoming.

5 Dec 2011 20:04

The Sir John Oldcastle, Farringdon

Basic Spoons pub. Only difference to where I come from up north is the price. Two halves of real ale 3.60

5 Dec 2011 20:00

The Betsey Trotwood, Clerkenwell

Popped in last saturday when in London. Quiet in the afternoon. Barmaid very pleasant and nice drop of Bishops Finger

5 Dec 2011 19:58

The Carpenters Arms, Kings Cross

Called in last saturday afternoon. Not too busy. Locals pub. Did have Fullers ESB on which was on form.

5 Dec 2011 19:52

The Northumberland Arms, Kings Cross

Called in on a recent visit to London. Typical locals bar from my point of view. Only Smiths, no real ales. Pleasant enough.

5 Dec 2011 19:50

Improved since last visit here a couple of years ago. Arty farty decor and clientele have disappeared thank goodness. Friendly and more welcoming than before.

17 Sep 2011 10:24

Ye Old Vaults, Ashbourne

Friendly enough place. Cracking pint of Pedigree served. Seems a proper regulars pub.

17 Sep 2011 10:20

The Horns, Ashbourne

Decent enough place with a wine bar feel to it. Decent range of real ales. Nice to sit outside and watch the world pass by!

17 Sep 2011 10:17

The Coach & Horses, Ashbourne

Certainly has changed sinced I last popped in a couple of years ago. Still friendly enough though.

17 Sep 2011 10:15

The Quorndon Fox, Loughborough

Decent enough pub. Decent choice of guest ales. Does seem to give the impression of being more food orientated. Agree with admirals comment about some people being pretentious but it won't stop us going in again if we're in the area.

3 Sep 2011 08:48

The White Horse, Quorn

Popped in last week for a beer festival here and we were well pleased. Good choice of guest ales in this Everards house with friendly staff, customers and good food. Will definately visit again next time we're in the area.

3 Sep 2011 08:43

Shakespeare Hotel, Sheffield

Called in yesterday and was impressed. Good selection of ales. Only been open about a month. Good friendly staff.

21 Aug 2011 11:08

The Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield

Popped in for a pint yesterday after visiting another pub nearby. Good selection of ales and nice atmosphere. Good beer garden. The no swearing policy didn't seem to apply outside as a group of gents did have one foul mouthed idiot amongst them and nothing was said unfortunately. However, will definately be back next time we are in the area.

21 Aug 2011 11:04

The Fat Cat, Sheffield

Popped in for a few yesterday during their 30th anniversary beer festival. Plenty of choice. All the beers were in good condition. Staff pleasant. Beer garden was nice. Bar is smallish but side room is handy for extra space. Only fault was the gents toilets smelled really bad. Other than that a great place for sampling some proper ale. Will be back!

21 Aug 2011 10:58

The Vat and Fiddle, Nottingham

Called in whilst we had some time to kill waiting for a train. Usual good choice of Castle Rock ales, pleasant customers and staff. Worth a visit if you have never been before.

14 Aug 2011 09:45

Black Dog, Grantham

Popped in yesterday after the Grantham Beer Festival and was impressed. Staff extremely welcoming and polite. We asked for 3 pints of Pedigree and was told the barrel had just gone, but the manageress -i think- offered to do our pints straight from the barrel which tasted absolutely fantastic.! Sky Sports shown and a decent menu was on offer too! Will visit again next time we're in the town.

14 Aug 2011 09:42

Goose At The Bank, Grantham

Large pub with cheap ales. Had a London Pride which was well kept. Staff were extremely friendly and Sky Sports shown. The only drawback on our visit was half a dozen foul mouthed young "ladies" who were clearly heard by everyone but were not spoken too. Will visit again though.

14 Aug 2011 09:37

Tollemache Inn, Grantham

Good range of real ales. Staff pleasant and locals friendly. Decent JDW pub.

14 Aug 2011 09:33

The Exeter Arms, Derby

Nice pub selling the Dancing Duck range as well as Pedigree and other guests. Does seem pricey though. Seemingly 20p a pint dearer than other pubs they sell their own beer to around the Derby area! Thats the only fault in my honest opinion, everything else is best of order!

13 Aug 2011 08:46

The Bell Inn, Smalley

Popped in yesterday for the beer festival. Good pub indeed. Staff very friendly and helpful plus a good choice on handpump, Taylors Best, Taylors Landlord, Harvest Pale and Pedigree, plus we were treated to 8 beers and a cider outside in the festival gazebo. Large spacious garden which adds extra space and ambience to the whole pub. Definately will be back soon!

Gteat boozer with great choice of real ales. Can get busy due to concert hall being nearby.

12 Aug 2011 09:58

The Bentinck Hotel, Nottingham

Bog standard pub. Did have London Pride on my last visit. Popular with travellers waiting for trains but also some of the unwanted sort as well. Does get full of football fans on matchdays.

12 Aug 2011 09:56

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham

Good choice of ales in this historic pub. One drawback for us was that a couple of the barstaff seemed miserable. Worth a visit but if you're expecting charm 100% of the time you could well be disappointed. Shame as on many previous visits here all the staff were friendly.

12 Aug 2011 09:51

12 Aug 2011 09:40

11 Aug 2011 09:31

The Encore, Stratford upon Avon

Poor choice when we went in so i plumped for a Spanish lager! Nice on the outside and inside but a place we won't frequent again in a hurry. One barmaid pleasant but another one was very obnoxious. Hit and miss I guess.

Calverts Court, Stockport

Went early doors prior to an engagement in the area and was not as bad as I thought it would be. Couple of ales on and decent. Served quickly, locals were a bit chavvy but not a problem. Could'nt comment about evenings though. Certainly not the worst JDW pub i've been in.

11 Aug 2011 09:18

The Piccadilly Tavern, Manchester

A pub similar to the nearby JDW Manchester and County but slightly better. Cheap and cheerful as well as friendly.

10 Aug 2011 10:25

Overcrowded on matchdays with United fans from anywhere but Manchester after getting off at Piccadilly station. Typical JDW pub. Handy for a swift one.

10 Aug 2011 10:23

The Brunswick / B Lounge, Manchester

Overpriced and stuffy. Not my cup of tea personally. Shall not visit again. Friendly enough though.

The Waterfall, Derby

Doombar and Pedigree on my last visit waiting for my train. Can get a mixed bag of customers from chavs to suits. Some members of staff are okay but some need a lesson in communication skills. Pricey, but then so is The Widows next door. Hit and miss. Handy for the station.

10 Aug 2011 09:39

Ye Olde Dolphin Inn, Derby

Plenty of ales and rooms to savour your choice. Clientele mixed with a few suits frequenting because of the nature of the businesses in the area. Worth a visit definately!

10 Aug 2011 09:36

Wardwick Tavern, Derby

Had a very poor pint of Batemans Rosey Nosey on when I went at the beginning of the year, it was warm and slighty cloudy. Barmaid seemed to have no communications skills. Not a place I'd rush back too!

10 Aug 2011 09:33

10 Aug 2011 09:30

The Thomas Leaper, Derby

Quieter JDW than its immediate neighbour next door. Good choice of ales as you'd expect and a less chavvie clientele. Easier to get served and toilets actually on the ground floor which is a bonus for a JDW pub!

10 Aug 2011 09:27

Station Inn, Derby

Hmmm. Great for Bass out of the jug but two problems can be had here. Firstly, the landlord does tend to keep the door and curtains closed at certain times when open which can cause confusion from people who come to Derby to visit this former GBG pub. He might let you in if he likes the look of you from his CCTV camera! Secondly, the landlord does seem a nice enough chap but he does blow hot and cold on occasions. Worth a visit if you can get in. Don't go matchdays as only regulars will have the door opened for them.

10 Aug 2011 09:23

The Standing Order, Derby

Good service and good choice of ales. Can get very crowded and usually the odd chavvies make this there settlement for a session. Can get noisy but a decent JDW.

10 Aug 2011 09:16

The Smithfield, Derby

Decent eough pub with a good choice. Only drawback is that it is off the beaten track and hard to find if you have no knowledge of Derby. Near the Trent bus depot and Derby Telgraph HQ.

10 Aug 2011 09:14

Slug and Lettuce, Derby

Was recommended this pub to visit but what a let down. I went on two successive fridays and each time our beer was warm and not a full pint. On requesting to be topped up we got a filthy look from the lady -assistant or manager?- behind the bar. Well disappointed from a pub usually well recommended!

10 Aug 2011 09:07

Seven Stars, Derby

Pleasant enough pub with a couple of real ales on -Brains SA Gold- when I visited and tasted good. Can get a few students in but handy for a decent pint if you're in the area.

10 Aug 2011 09:04

The Old Silk Mill, Derby

Plenty of choice for the ale drinker. Worth a visit if you are in the area. Can get a bit packed with "Suits" on a friday afternoon, but a general good mix of clientele.

Decor is a bit odd but other than that a cracking pint of Dancing Duck. Friendly enough staff worth a pop in!

The Merry Widows, Derby

Other than matchdays a very local orientated pub. Handy if you fancy a pint between trains I guess.

10 Aug 2011 08:46

The Greyhound, Derby

Nice enough choice of ales and pleasant enough pub. When we visited the staff seemed more interested in social networking than serving. Maybe it was because it was a slow afternoon. Worth a visit though.

Vastly improved from a few years ago. Good selection of ales and welcoming landlord.

10 Aug 2011 08:33

Portland Hotel, Derby

Went in recently after visiting a friend nearby. Much improved since I last went in a couple of years ago. Real ales on nowadays and staff that seemingly care which wasn't the case previuosly. Quiet when I visited. Nice pint of Spitfire!

10 Aug 2011 08:27

James Wyatt, Derby

Visited a friend nearby a couple of times recently near this pub and what can I say except poor! The landlord doesn't seem bothered, the barmaid spent more time smoking outside than serving, somebody claiming to be a train driver swearing nonstop basically like most of the customers. Poor pub and poor beer!

10 Aug 2011 08:24

The Blue Peter, Alvaston

Busy pub on Derbys ring road. Unfortunately, some of the clientele let the place down. Popular with families for cheap meals.

10 Aug 2011 08:19

Stumble Inn, Long Eaton

Nice pub. Had a few decent beers on when I visited. Friendly enough.

10 Aug 2011 08:16

The Bell Inn, Sawley

Locals pub situated near Long Eaton rail station, which is actually in Sawley!

Serves 2 regular real ales in Castle Rock Harvest Pale & Marstons Pedigree, though plenty of Smiths, Carling for those who prefer them.

Locals are friendly enough, however, a couple of them due tend to use fruity language regardless of whoever may be around!

Still worth a visit.
