The Southcote, Southcote

Rather average; certainly not worth going out of your way for. Food is as expected for this sort of establishment. Didn't have beer so can't comment. Waiting staff were accommodating and attentive.

The Spread Eagle, Reading

Not the best pub in the Tilehurst/West Reading area, but generally OK. Good to watch football, occasionally. Often has kids running around, seen a few confrontations between punters and punters/staff. Beer has been hit and miss, sometimes only bottles (Abbot etc.) available.

Pub is fine for a quick pint, but I wouldn't spend the evening there. Credit to the current management for making the effort with quizzes and live music, but I've not been so can't comment on these.

Charlie Hall, Erdington

General Wetherspoons clientel. Sports TV on (mute) and a selection (4-5?) of ales. GK-IPA was quite nice.

Strange atmosphere though...

The Lad In The Lane, Erdington

No ale (which was disappointing). Gassed bitter was alright. Pub was very quiet (weekday evening).

Nothing special, but far from bad.

Hit and miss really - beer has been both lovely and awful. Magnet for allsorts!

The City Tavern, Birmingham

I believe this place has now shut?

Visited on a couple of stints over the last few months - almost no BEER on (and it was warm!), no atmosphere (TV on in the corner, barmaid chatting with her mates). Smelt badly of disinfectant.

So much potential though!

The Newt and Cucumber, Birmingham

Spent ages waiting for service (despite complete lack of custom). Average beer (though had to ask for a 'top up').

Only worth visiting if you've missed your train (and you'd rather be in the warm than on the platform). Avoid on a drinking sesh.

The Briar Rose, Birmingham

Nothing special, the ale choice sways the decision between here and the Square Peg.

Too bad the Welly's up the road!

The Lifford Curve, Stirchley

Only had Pedigree on, which was cheap at 1.90! Only had a half, and was suprisingly good. We were deterred from eating there based on the price (and we're students!). Settled on a great curry in Stirchley.

No direct reason to avoid this place, although it was DEAD (last) Sunday evening. Very spacious, which exaggerated the emptiness. Enough of a reason to go elsewhere I spose.

The Wellington, Birmingham

Spot on! Went with a both an ale-drinker and a non ale-drinker. Enough choice for all. Perfect!

Decent Wetherspoons (nice pint of Pedigree). Very good service and decent food (well worth what we paid).

Route Two, Birmingham

Service was appalling.

Wagon & Horses, Redhill Arnold

Nice sarnies when we stopped in last Monday. Barmaid very friendly and helpful.
