The George, London Bridge

Some good points in the recent reviews - the pub smacks of complacency and - sadly - the apparent contempt for the customer that characterises far too many pubs in "touristy" locations. Beer is ropey, food terrible and staff disinterested.

Bradleys, Fitzrovia

A remarkably good bar, especially given the unpreposessing location. A good range of lagers and an outstanding jukebox - covering everything from Nina Simone to the Pistols - make up for the timewarp toilets, which could be used as location for Life on Mars.

The Southwark Tavern, London Bridge

A very good place when it's not too busy, pretty woeful when it's packed. Not sure whether the gaffer hires too few bar staff to keep down costs, but the queues are ridiculous on busy evenings and I suspect drive people to other local venues. Food is pretty good, though.

The Two Chairmen, St James's

Pretty mediocre. Beers just about tolerable when they're available, but service is slow (too few bar staff) and food looks to be in the dubious tradition of good old British pub grub. A good number of Westminster pubs are nondescript if not actively offensive and this lives down to that level.
