The Running Horse, Mayfair

More Gastro than Pub. It has a lot of potential, but doesn't use it. Shame really.

The Duke of Albemarle, Mayfair

Something about this pub doesn't quite add up. It's a decent pub to look at, the service is fine, the food is ok, it's clean. I just don't like it, but I can't put a finger on why. I think it may be because it is a bit of a transient pub; where people meet before going on somewhere more interesting. It may just be me.

The Guinea, Mayfair

I really like this pub, perhaps a few too many suits (although, i'm a suit so I shouldn't complain), but I just cannot get past the price of the beer. 3.20 for a pint of Guinness (good Guinness, I will conceed) and 3.10 for a pint of Carling, is taking the piss.

Brutons, Mayfair

A strange one. The pub is in the middle of the Grafton Estate, which is very much not like mayfair at all. It looks pretty grotty from the outside and I must say I heard to many bad stories from my colleagues to go there for a long time, but when I eventually did I was quite surprised. It's alright inside, plenty of barstaff (always a bug bear with me), decent Guinness. It's certainly not a regular hangout for me, but I will certainly go there again.

The Goat Tavern, Piccadilly

The landlord referred to by the previous people who posted has left and was replaced by a bloke who got on my nerves, but has already been moved on. A really nice pub though. decent ales, Duechers on tap for the afficianados. Too small for large parties which occasionally does happen.

Kings Head, Mayfair

Got to be the worst pub in Mayfair. The only saving grace is the price of beer which is reasonable for the area. Food is average and overpriced, the tables don't get cleared often enough and the staff aren't interested. Within 200 yards there must be 10 better pubs.

The Victoria and Albert, Marylebone Station

Shocking pub. I can't think why anyone drinks in there unless waiting for a train. There are about 3 excellent pubs within 200 yards.

The Hobgoblin, Marylebone

One of the very best pubs in London. Great beers, excellent staff, lovely landlady, fun atmosphere. Can get really busy on a Friday night, but in a good way.

The Barley Mow, Marylebone

Great pub. A little bit of old England feel to the place with the little alcoves.

The Allsop Arms, Marylebone

A fairly standard pub. Guinness is pretty average. Whilst not a ditry pub at all, I felt the tables could have been cleaned a little more often. Not bad whilst waiting for a train or catching the end of the cricket or football after work.

The Pitcher and Piano, Mayfair

The same as every other pitcher and piano. At least you know what you are going to get.

The Punch Bowl, Mayfair

excellent pub. more of an eating pub than a drinking pub at lunchtimes. it can get irritating jumping out the way of the waitresses every couple of minutes.

Mulligans of Mayfair, Mayfair

really good pub (not cheap). excellent guinnes as you would expect from a self-proclaimed guinness and oyster bar. no other beers on tap limits my visits as not all my friends like guinness.

The Only Running Footman, Mayfair

A fairly good english pub. A little to much like standing in a corridor (even when not too busy) to make it a comfortable place for an entire evening, but a good port in a storm.

Bonds, Mayfair

a bit souless, but not bad if you want to sit and talk rather than stand and mingle, decor to similar other main stream chain bars for me.

The Iron Duke, Mayfair

i really like this pub, but i don't know why; the beer is ok, it's nothing special to look at, it's full of suits. but i like it.

The Coach and Horses, Mayfair

classy boozer. small, atmospheric, smokey. just how in like them.

4 Feb 2005 15:55

Black Lion and French Horn, Mayfair

nice boozer, shame about the management who seemed to take it as a personal insult when i ordered a beer while he was trying to read his book. i'll vote with my feet.

The Barley Mow, Mayfair

nice, classic english boozer. mainly suits, a couple of tourists during the week. not been there on a weekend. nice pint of guinness too.
