The Feuars Arms, Kirkcaldy

Another hugely overrated Kirkcaldy bar. Indifferent London Pride on offer and the bar filled with morose locals drinking bottled lager.

13 Jun 2016 18:14

The Path Tavern, Kirkcaldy

Amazed at the rating for this place. Interesting interior but nothing worth drinking.

13 Jun 2016 18:10

The Harbour Bar, Kirkcaldy

A friend has moved into a flat virtually yards away! Visited here and it's exactly as described very traditional bar and welcoming locals. I look forward to future visits.

22 May 2016 11:35

The Green Man, Longfield

Mediocre chain type pub. Food very ordinary.

15 Aug 2015 21:37

23 May 2014 12:55

Three Pigs, Edgefield

Went to this place on the Good Beer Guide recommendation. Beer ok but my safe choice of fish and chips became a case of find the Haddock amongst the batter ! As previously mentioned its really a gastro pub and not a very good one at that. Avoid.

23 May 2014 12:49

Not really a village local geared more to food.

11 Mar 2014 16:54

Oliver Twist, Stockholm

Very impressed by this lively pub 2 minutes from Slussen tube station. Very busy when I called in but no problem getting served by very professional staff. The excellent public transport makes drinking in Stockholm a pleasure. Red Seal beer a particular favourite.

24 Nov 2013 07:45

Standards still high at this fine hostelry. Excellent food and cask beers always in good order.

7 Feb 2013 11:12

The Dipton Mill Inn, Hexham

Paid a visit on the strength of the reports. Beers were excellent but not at all impressed by steak pie with a stick on microwave crust.

17 Jan 2013 20:37

The Stubbing Wharf, Hebden Bridge

Still the best beer selection in Hebden Bridge and excellent food. Excellent staff.

9 Nov 2012 17:28

13 Mar 2012 22:01

The Bulls Head, Wardlow

Pub closed.

3 Nov 2011 12:14

Very nearly the equal of the Three Stags' (Wardlow Mires) for atmosphere and banter.

Great to see this place in the top ten nothing else approaches it.

The Staff of Life, Todmorden

Called here on the off chance last week and after two pints of Landlord and a lunch we departed happy.

4 Feb 2011 11:04

Bob's Smithy, Montserrat

Retreated here after the strange disappearance of cask from the Howcroft. Apart from the dentists waiting room decor three pints of Arizona went down well.

4 Feb 2011 11:01

The Howcroft Inn, Bolton

Strange goings on at the Howcroft called last night and no cask beers at all. Hope another closure isnt in the offing ?

4 Feb 2011 10:55

The Victoria, Aspull

Not my usual stamping ground but had a couple of excellent pints here.

27 Jan 2011 14:24

The Stubbing Wharf, Hebden Bridge

Good food and friendly staff always on the list when I visit HB.

21 Dec 2010 00:01

The Hare and Hounds, Hebden Bridge

Made several visits this winter, well kept beers and reasonably priced food. If only the place was warmer !

20 Dec 2010 23:56

The Sweet Green Tavern, Bolton

Visited for a change from the Howcroft but much the same very ordinary beers and surly bar staff.

20 Dec 2010 23:51

The Prince Of Wales, Chorley

Still well ahead of the pack. Would be nice to see some stronger beers rather than the usual; 4% selection.

16 Nov 2010 15:31

The Three Stags Heads, Wardlow Mires

Yet another pleasant afternoon at the Stags last weekend. Fine ales and cabaret provided by the landlord and indecisive lager drinkers.

4 Nov 2010 20:55

The Crown Hotel, Standish

Good food and beers always available but bar staff still in a world of their own.

18 Sep 2010 23:31

The Prince Of Wales, Chorley

Leaves the rest of Chorleys pubs trailing in its dust !

10 Dec 2009 00:05

The Howcroft Inn, Bolton

In tonight for an fine couple of Bank Top Santas Claws followed by TT's Landlord. Excellent night with a fire roaring in the snug!

10 Dec 2009 00:00

The Howcroft Inn, Bolton

Oh dear two recent visits and the Landlord pump was dry! Hope this isn't a sign of things to come!

29 Sep 2009 11:15

Top Lock, Heapey

Excellent beers only marred by local boors blocking the bar.

28 Jul 2009 19:34

The Three Stags Heads, Wardlow Mires

Been back a couple of times since my earlier report and this place never fails to please.

28 Jul 2009 19:24

The Howcroft Inn, Bolton

Back in on a fairly regular basis and beers up to scratch. Could do with a good tidy up outside.

28 Jul 2009 19:20

The Ferry Tap, South Queensferry

Excellent traditional bar.

31 May 2009 14:57

The Spinners Arms, Adlington

Good beers but avoid Wednesdays at all costs. Agree with Redwing regarding the Bingo 'sippers' !

23 Apr 2009 23:08

The Howcroft Inn, Bolton

Been in several times since my last report. Taylors Landlord always up to scratch and cheerful staff. Pleased to see the snug fireplace is back in use.

12 Apr 2009 18:07

Colliers Arms, Wigan

Excellent old style pub with good beer.

8 Apr 2009 16:06

The Ship Inn, Limekilns

Fine location but ferociously expensive beer.

6 Apr 2009 22:28

Clarks Bar, Edinburgh

Fine old bar but on my recent visit the Caledonian 80/- was pure vinegar! Must have been in the pipes for years!

6 Apr 2009 22:24

The Red Lion Inn, Litton

Fell in here exhausted after a peakland trudge. Excellent food and beer. With the Three Stags Heads just down the road the locals here are spoiled!!

16 Mar 2009 17:21

Dog and Gun, Keswick

Must have caught them on a bad day beer fine but food definitely microwave fare. Perhaps it was the chefs day off.

11 Mar 2009 14:38

The Three Stags Heads, Wardlow Mires

On the strength of the reports here we had to visit this gem. Had a great afternoon in the pub listening to the banter with some superb 'Absolution'. Atmosphere enlivened by a southern 'jessie' asking for lager!

1 Mar 2009 18:46

The Howcroft Inn, Bolton

In early on Saturday and had 3 excellent pints of Landlord. Quiet when we arrived but filling up when we left about 21:00. Good luck to them I hope its a new lease of life for this fine boozer.

16 Feb 2009 18:58

The Howcroft Inn, Bolton

We called last night to see what's what and alas the landlady told us the Taylor Landlord and Black Sheep weren't ready. We declined the offer of John Smiths Smooth but we'll be back there shortly.
Nice to see the place lit up again and cleaned up inside.

12 Feb 2009 12:04

The Watermill Inn, Ings

Good range of beers but food over priced. My friends lamb dish was largely gristle.

31 Jan 2009 00:00

The Hare and Hounds, Hebden Bridge

Slipped across the border and visited this fine pub. A superb pint of Landlord and a 3 lunch that eclipsed anything at 3 times the price elsewhere.

29 Jan 2009 19:58

The Stubbing Wharf, Hebden Bridge

Excellent pint of Landlord and good atmosphere.

20 Jan 2009 00:33

Bob's Smithy, Montserrat

A recent visit revealed a gloomy pub with tired beers. What's happened to Bet Lynch?

19 Jan 2009 23:29

The Howcroft Inn, Bolton

Called last night and the place was locked up the usual 'Business Opportunity' board displayed outside. A sad end.

13 Jan 2009 23:44

The Crown Hotel, Standish

Full marks for the Winter Beer Festival had an excellent night.

12 Jan 2009 11:30

The Sweet Green Tavern, Bolton

How the winds of change blow through the licensed trade. With the decline of the Howcroft we tried another visit here although lots of cask pumps always make me wary. Needless to say we were served two pints of vinegar by the Bet Lynch lookalike however these were rapidly changed for something better. Does the landlord here never taste his own stock to prevent customers having to suffer 'pesh'!

18 Oct 2008 16:13

The Crown Hotel, Standish

Regarding Boltonblokes comments I've noticed when the boss isnt lurking the staff seem to be anywhere but at the bar or on our last visit keep chatting with each other as we waited. Still excellent choice of well kept beers. Landlord have a drive to the Taps at Lytham to see professional bar staff at work.

16 Sep 2008 14:24

The Swan Inn, Stone

Called for the first time today and concur with all previous posts! Excellent.

14 Sep 2008 22:07

The Cock Inn, Sibson

First class pint of Bass and excellent food.

6 Sep 2008 00:29

The Howcroft Inn, Bolton

Never has a pub fallen so fast.

26 Aug 2008 21:39

The Taps, Lytham St Annes

Excellent pub and special praise for the first class bar staff.

26 Aug 2008 21:20

, Digbeth

Had a couple of sessions in here during a visit to Brum.Highest praise.

26 Aug 2008 21:18

The Prince Of Wales, Chorley

On recent experience probably the best house in Chorley for consistently good beer.

24 Jul 2008 16:35

Barearts.Com, Todmorden

Certainly a one off both in format and decor. Excellent selection of the local produced beers and relaxed atmosphere.

2 Jul 2008 23:27

Anvil, Wigan

First time I've had a pint in Wigan centre for 20 years and what a pleasure.

2 Jun 2008 23:06

The Beaumont Arms, Bolton

A great barn of a pub but excellent Taylors Landlord and friendly staff.

25 May 2008 16:13

The Victoria Inn, Bolton

This place used to be considered classy when I went to school nearby and many a pint enjoyed at lunch time. Alas its run down and bar staff seemed amazed to see us! One mouthful of the tired bitter and a fast departure was the result.

25 May 2008 16:10

The Hope and Anchor Inn, Bolton

Used to have the best pint of Landlord in town but the wall to wall TV screens and boorish locals are off putting. Tired beer on the last two visits.

25 May 2008 16:02

The Doffcocker Inn, Bolton

Wandered in here as a last resort after the absence of choice at the Howcroft and the Hope and Anchor closed for renovation. Not much cask choice but some of the Holts bottles are excellent.
Pleasant TV free lounge.

25 May 2008 16:00

The Malt 'n' Hops, Chorley

"Too many pumps?! How can you be disgruntled by having more variety of beer?"

I'm all in favour of choice but I'd rather see 4 pumps with a good throughput than tired beers that have lingered in the pipes.

25 May 2008 15:56

The Sweet Green Tavern, Bolton

Agreed on comments below. With the sad decline of the Howcroft it'll be seeing more of my money.

12 May 2008 13:08

The Howcroft Inn, Bolton

Two recent visits revealed only 1 cask pump with the poverty Flatcap on draught, finished up drinking bottled at the Doffcocker. I hope we arent going to see a similar decline as with the Kings Head at Dean.
Sad to see the Howcroft go this way it used to be a gem in a sea of mediocrity.

12 May 2008 13:06

The Bridge Inn, Calver

Dropped in on the strength of the comments while on a job in Derbyshire. Superb beer and food and much amusing banter from locals in the 'public'!

29 Apr 2008 18:36

The Spinners Arms, Adlington

Had to make a fast exit due to Bingo last week hope this isn't a taste of things to come?

9 Apr 2008 11:51

The Howcroft Inn, Bolton

I was in a few days ago and the barmaid told me there had been a change of manager.Certainly looked a lot cleaner no rubbish or remnants of previous meals maturing on the carpet.

9 Apr 2008 11:32

The Malt 'n' Hops, Chorley

Glad to see Ross is dragging this place out of the dust.Too many pumps though.

9 Apr 2008 11:27

The Brinsop Country Inn, Westhoughton

I've just had an abusive note from morganrossmr regarding this place, boltonbloke and myself have obviously touched a raw nerve!
I stand by my comments drive straight past.

2 Feb 2008 16:33

The Brinsop Country Inn, Westhoughton

After reading the latest joke comments on the Brinsop I asked a friend to call in to view this 'resurrection'. Believe me nothings changed boorish locals and indifferent staff.

11 Dec 2007 18:21

Suzannas, Blackrod

Always some decent beer to be had and quick service.

18 Jun 2007 19:43

The Malt 'n' Hops, Chorley

A quick visit last night presented us with all the pumps on the smaller counter 'off' with only 3 Beartown beers available round the corner. We did an about turn and drowned our sorrows at the Prince of Wales on Cowling.

18 Jun 2007 19:39

The Crown Hotel, Standish

I've tranferred my affections here from the near defunct Malt and Hops in Chorley. An excellent choice of beers with a strong un usually available.I also concur on the food comments.

3 Jun 2007 14:20

The Kings Head, Bolton

Alas it's fallen from the heights of 4 years ago. Two landlords on and the best it can do is the dreaded Pride of Pendle' and Bombardier. The superb pints of Landlord are no more.

28 May 2007 18:23

The Malt 'n' Hops, Chorley

A sad decline.

20 May 2007 12:11

The Spinners Arms, Adlington

Certainly the best pub in the village. Adlington's a desert for decent ales otherwise.

20 May 2007 12:10

The Howcroft Inn, Bolton

Easily the best pub in Bolton probably helped by being out of the centre. Excellent staff.

14 Feb 2007 10:57

The Brinsop Country Inn, Westhoughton

Complete agreement with Boltonbloke, boorish behaviour by locals clogging the bar complimented by staff chatting with them!

14 Feb 2007 10:55

The Prince Of Wales, Chorley

Excellent beers although I wish they would keep one of Jennings stronger beers as a regular. Cockerhoop or Sneck for instance.
