Just over a year ago the Huntsman, locally known as "Bar H" was pretty quiet until the recent tenants/owners took over, things took a while, and now the bar is back to a lively place with a set of locals you'll see in plenty.
The pints are all what you would expect, Fosters, Carling, Guinness etc and theres a bottle selection and the usual spirits and bar snacks.
The Beers are kept well and you always get a decent pint, prices are pretty much the same as most other places in the area so it's not expensive.
It can get full at weekends sometimes, but it all adds to the atmosphere the staff and the regulars are all friendly and its a decent proper local little pub.

had never been in the pub before, but heard it was a Cask mark pub as well as in the 2010 CAMRA guide, so thought i would give it a go as i was only over the road.
at first it seemed a bit 'local' as there was only really one large group there , but had a look at the ales on the corner, Broadside and Black Sheep were the two i remembered. Decided to give the Black Sheep a go as its a fairly decent ale you see plenty of places.
The pint was well kept, not a bad price, and i enjoyed it, would have been nice if the fire was going,
Will try it one night when they have the quiz or suchlike, and its a little more lively.
all in all a nice little pub, if not a little out the way from the usual pubs in the area.
Inside it was very old, but again, that's not a bad thing, it was like what a pub would have been like and should be like. not an amusement arcade ,and not a disco, it's a pub with lots of local history, and decorated walls of the area "back in the day"

Great Selection of Real Ales on a constantly changing basis. For the Cider Lovers there is always a range of Ciders served from the cellar *Regular and Guest)
The Boathouse has won CAMRA pub of the year in the area many times in the past few years and rightly so. It's perfect for a week-night after work pint as much as a weekend when there is music or karaoke on.
Great Staff and Regulars, and perfect position for getting there by train (Check out the Ale Train leaflets at the bar as the line has many pubs in its vicinity)

The Keelman, Newburn
brilliant pub with good food and real local ales (you can't get much more local that over the road!) "Big Lamp" ales are the main ales served. Prince Bishop, Big Lamp Bitter, Sunny Daze, Summerhill Stout, to name a few.
the bar area is quite small, but the outdoor seating is massive and gets especially busy in the summer with the people coming in from the local country park and walkways.
Nothing beats a pint of "Sunny Daze" outside on a hot summers day.
