The Forth Hotel, Newcastle

i recently stayed in newcastle for a few days and had a few hours to kill while waiting for the train... my girlfriend and i found the forth. although it looked pretty rough on the outside it is such a lovely pub on the inside. we stayed for at least 3 hours and relaxed on the comfy sofas downstairs. i was drinking doom bar and it was very well kept. the pub looks really nice inside and has a roof terrace garden which would be perfect for a drink on a summers day although it was freezing when we were there. we didn't eat but the menu looked good, especially the sunday roast with a bloody mary. i liked the blackboard that stated that certain drinks (malibu, strongbow, fosters etc) were not just unavailable that day or that week, but never. really good pub, nice staff, ticked all the boxes. i wil difinately come back here next time i'm in newcastle. just wish i'd have found it a few days earlier!

The Plough and Harrow, Litlington

i rate this as the best country pub in the area. although the food is fantastic, it is also completely unpretentious, unlike most of its rivals. pat and paul have done a fantastic job here... they are so welcoming and are really pleasant people. the beer garden is perfect for relaxing on a summer's afternoon.

The Portobello Gold, Portobello Road

i've been in here a couple of times when i've been in london and i fell in love with this pub. the bar staff were really friendly and i love the back room with loads of tropical plants. they had harveys(my local brew) as a guest ale which was really nice... lovely pub!

The Dolphin, Eastbourne

That post about the cloudy beer is absolutely untrue. I'm the assistant manager at the Dolphin and firstly, I would have been there all day on the day of the visit. Secondly, the manager lives upstairs, so I'm sure he would have been around if I wasn't. In the year I have been at the Dolphin I have never had a complaint about the Harveys, if anything I repeatedly get told that we keep the best pint in Eastbourne. The only problem we have ever had with the Harveys, was a batch without the finings which appeared cloudy and needed to be sent back to the brewery, but that was about 6 months ago. Just wanted to clear that up because we pride ourselves on our beer and I don't want to be reading things like that!
