The Prince of Wales, Moseley

This is an excellant pub. The current Landlord has really improved the place. The selection of ails keeps getting better which is a real achievement as the pub is owned by Punch Taverns. The hog roast on a Saturday evening is great. Unfortunately the recent refurb was a little disappointing. Some of the character has been lost. The mooses head on the wall has gone. The barmaid was unsure if it was comming back. I hope it is.

Old Moseley Arms, Balsall Heath

Visited this pub for the first time yesterday. I was very inpressed. The ail was in excellant condition. Unfortunately there was only one guest ail on. I get the impression there are usually two or three. I had a Sunday lunch for just 3.95! It wasn't the best but it was good for the price and I'd happily eat it again. I look forward to going back.

The Hare and Hounds, Kings Heath

Great news! The Hare and Hounds now serves a decent drink in the form of Purity Mad Goose. It seams to be selling well and has always tasted good so far. Pubs don't get much better than this!

The Station, Kings Heath

I have been to The Station a couple of times since its refurb. It is fine. Its clean and has a reasonable sellection of ail. The staff are friendly too. Its just a shame they've gone for a bit of a 'fuddy duddy' image. This could have been a cool and trendy pub like the Hare and Hounds.

Bacchus, Birmingham

I love this bar. It is so splendidly tacky and over the top. It's full of medieval suits of armour, Greek statues and Egyption hyrogliphics - all made out of glass fibre! Every time I go in it I wonder if the interior designer who came up with it was for real or not. This is one of the places I take people when they first visit Birmingham. I hope it never changes. It should be listed as a national monument.

Another thing I like about this place is the name. Bacchus was the Greek god of wine and there is a statue of him (in glas fibre) above the bar. Also this bar is under the hotel in which Enoch Powel gave his 'Rivers of Blood' speech. I love a bit of local history.

This place went down hill for a while when they stoped doing Hoogarden. As I result I went less often. But last time I visited they had a sellection of wheet beers and hand pumps. Actually I feel like going there right now.

Pear Tree, Kings Heath

This has to be the most UGLY Weatherspoons pub I have ever seen. Apparently it used to be a bank. I'm all in favour of beutiful Victorian banks being turned into pubs, but this building should have been demolished at the first available opertunity.

On the plus side this is the only pub in Kings Heath that serves decent real ail. It even served Hoogarden for a bit! The drinks are cheep and good. The food is fine for the price. Its such a shame everything else about this place is so terrible.

Goose on Two Streets, Kings Heath

Probably the worst pub in Kings Heath. A poor example of a terrible chain. Dirty, smelly, terrible sellection of drinks, terrible quallity drinks, mediocre service & a bad atmosphere (unless if you like drunk chavs). Food is available but would you want to eat in here? All the down & outs who used to drink in the Hare & Hounds, The Station and the Goose in Moseley now drink in this pub.

The Hare and Hounds, Kings Heath

This is by far and away the best pub in Kings Heath and a contender for the best pub in Birmingham. In fact it has already won the 'Best Bar' award from the Knight Times.

I say it is the best in Kings Heath even though it doesn't serve any really good beer. The San Miguel and Staropraamen are both very good, however they're still just largers. There are no good ails. The Gunnues is fine.

This pub is good because of two main factors. Firstly the diverse mixture of people - from uber-cool Moseley types to beardy weirdy's and boarder line tramps/nutters. Secondly the stunningly beutiful, grade 2 listed architecture. Few other pubs are so well presserved inside and out.

This pub has become the centre of the local community - just as a good pub should. There are lots of good bands/performers playing and comedians too. Frank Skinner did some stand-up here about a year ago. I recomend this pub. Lets hope others in Kings Heath learn from its example.

The Station, Kings Heath

I've lived in Kings Heath for about 5 and a half years now and I have always found this pub very dissapointing. It could be one of the best pubs in the Kings Heath/Moseley area if it was cleaned up and served decent drinks.

Last time I went in there was no real ail and no food. There was Staropraamen available which cost 3.20 and didn't taste right. There used to be trophys on the walls, which gave the pub some character but they've all gone now.

The pub has now closed again. There is scaffold up along the front of the building. Hopefully this means the new tennants/owners are going to spend a bit of money and do it up propperly this time. It is begging to be given a Pat Kav type make over.

I heard a rumour that it was to be turned into an all u can eat chineese. I hope not - though I'd probably eat there quite a bit!
