The Gryphon, Grange Park

Agree with previous reviewer that this pub has the potential to be so much better, if only it wasn't part of the Harvester chain. The salad bar separates the two ends of the pub, creating a bottleneck in between. Service is quite good and the food is nothing to conmplain about, but it looks more like a restuarant than a pub and lacks the ambience that good pubs have.

Kings Head, Crouch End

Lively pub, cultured clientele, delightful ambience, but why oh why did they take nachos off the menu? They do have plenty of alternatives and the guys at the bar and friendly, so they get away with it, but they are testing my loyalty to the limit! Seriously, lovely pub - well worth a visit.

Crown and Horseshoes, Enfield

Correction

Lovely location, nice garden, satisfactory staff and reasonably good food, but it still falls short of being a great pub. I think it's because it simply doesn't stand out among other pubs in the area, although it does overshadow (but slightly) its next-door neighbour, The Cricketers. I shall continue to go to The Crown and Horsehoes (not The Cricketers) but not as often as I would do if the food and service were a bit better than "acceptable".

Cricketers, Enfield

Not a great pub but nice enough to drop in for a drink. From the outside, it flatters to deceive. Food is average pub grub, service is acceptable, everything about it is "just okay". Overshadowed a bit by its neigbour, the Crown & Horsehoes, but it doesn't need to be. If the Cricketers could raise its game, it has the location and ambience to be a really nice pub.

The Woodman, Southgate

The Woodman has had its ups and downs over the years, which is why I can't bring myself to recommend it. The last 3 visits to the pub have been good, average and disappointing (so disappointing that I decided to walk out without even ordering a drink). If the landlord and staff could get their act together, this could be a great place to come for a meal, but as it is, it's the kind of place I would go to only if it was close to last orders, and I happened to be in Bourne Hill at the time. It has the potential to be so much better than that.

The George, Enfield

The comment about the bubble perms, missing teeth, and lashings of gold jewellery is spot on. The old poofta sitting at the next table had all of that. But as a whole, the pub is worth a visit during the day. The food isn't great, the service isn't great, the service isn't great, but hey, this is Enfield! If you want to live the high life, go to Barnet. Seriously, give The George a chance. Even when you first enter it's worth 4/10. The ratings improve the longer you stay.

The Jolly Farmers, Enfield

Good pub. James the manager is good and makes you feel welcome, as do other staff. Food is decent value, ambience is pretty good. I have been there countless times and would have no hesitation in going for a meal. I agree that it may have lost some of its charm over the years but in terms of value for money, it's worth a visit.

Ye Olde Cherry Tree, Southgate

Holy moley! I can't believe this pub is getting such bad reviews! C'mon guys, it's not as bad as all that. If it used to be better, then it was a pub from Heaven. I've been there a few times and I really think the selection and quality of food is good. The staff are overworked, I agree, but they do try. I would give it at least 6/10 & fighting hard for a 7. I would go there again any time. And my review was based on several visits, not just one.

The Three Horseshoes, St Albans

If you want excellent cuisine, this may not be your pub. I have had better food, for sure. But I would go there again because of the ambience and friendly service. Be honest, do you really expect 5-star cuisine in a small pub? Or are you content with reasonably decent food at a reasonably decent price? I ordered the tasting platter (which was worth 6/10) and another platter which was a bit greasy and worth only 4/10. So I averaged 5/10 for food in a small pub with lovely ambience and friendly service. My verdict? Good! I would go there again any time.
