The Brandling Villa, South Gosforth

Seems to divide opinion, but you can't argue with the great range of cask ales and brilliant food. Have to agree with the comments regarding poorly trained staff, but the only downside, imo. Great quiz on a sunday.

The Cluny, Ouseburn

Patchy. Beer terrible, nice interior, customers who are bohemian and left field because they think it makes them cool, live music exceptionally good, awful promotions events that feel like they just want your money rather than doing sonething for their customers. Recent "Ages of landlord" perfect example of this. What was that?! Go for the bands, drink in the cumby/free trade.

The Cumberland Arms, Ouseburn

Cosy little pub with great staff, customers and very well kept, interesting beers. Brass needs a polish but other than that, perfect!

Ship Inn, Newcastle

What a waste. Could be a great place, but poor beer, extensive yet very boring whisky shelf, disinteresred staff and zero atmosphere make this somewhere to avoid. So many great pubs in the ouseburn, this unfortunately, is not one. Crap beers being passed off as "classics" is fooling no-one.

The Free Trade Inn, Byker

One of those boozers that's crap, but in a really good way. Not much to look at and hasn't had a lick of paint in a long time, but it would probably spoil the place if it had one. Great beer, knowledgable, friendly staff and a really nice atmosphere. Great pub.

Blue Bell, Newcastle

Nice pub to sit outside of, especially in summer. Good mix of people, good staff, food plentiful but nothing to right home about.

Corner House, Heaton

Generic rubbish pub chain fayre. If you like cheap, microwaved food and awful beer you'll love it. Good quiz on a Thursday is a rare highlight!

The Chillingham, Heaton

Decent pub, fair range of beers and staff are friendly.

Northumberland Hussar, Newcastle

This used to be an absolutely terrible bar. Got a change of management who completely gutted it, started again and completely turned it around. Great food, awesome cask and craft beers, and they seem to have moved on the dregs of society who used to frequent the place. Top marks Hussar!
