The Turks Head, St Agnes

We are on the Scillonian, rounding the southern tip of St Marys and coming up The Sound. We catch our first glimpse of the Turks Head in 9 months. It briefly disappears from view as we dock at St Marys, then, it's on the Spirit and off to St Agnes. Familiar faces greet us and it's up the slipway, around the corner and into the Turks. A lovely welcome from Nicki and a welcome pint of Turks Ale. It's sunny, so we sit outside. Nothing has changed, same view, same excellent beer, same excellent, good value food. In the evening if you want to eat, it makes sense to get there before the supper boat arrives or eat after it's gone. Either way it's no problem. This is a really special place, go there and love it! Can't wait for next time!

The Mad Bishop and Bear, Paddington

Went in there yesterday after the mighty Saints won 4-1 at Wembley. I liked it. St Austell Tribute was a real treat whilst waiting for the train back to Cornwall.....and Sky Sport News showed the goals almost continually!

The Cleveland Arms, Bayswater

Went to the Cleveland early doors, the day before the last reviewer. They had Landlord, Adnams stout and GK IPA, all of which were excellent. A very welcoming place. The menu consists of lots of micro wave curries for about 5 a go. I had Thai chicken and it was hot hot hot!!! Good though.

The Old Ale House, Truro

The best pub in Truro in my opinion, although a tad on the pricey side. Try the Kiddlywink, the Skinners house ale, never fails. Most of the Truro pubs do seem to cater for the teens and twentys, but not here. Always a good atmosphere.

The Square and Compass, Worth Matravers

The very best pub in the world!!
I've been checking its still up to scratch for the last 34 years. All 3 of my kids have visited before they were 2 weeks old. I feel its important to give them as good a start in life as possible!!
Last visited for the cider festival in June, which was a weekend to behold!! Back next weekend1

The Driftwood Spars Hotel, St Agnes

I feel I must comment on point 2 of the previous review. My son is a barman at the Driftwood and whilst amenable he is certainly not posh or on a surfing holiday!!
The Driftwood is a great pub and one of my top 3, the other 2 being the Turks Head at St.Agnes, I.O.S and the great Square and Compass in Dorset. The range of beers is almost 100% local now with Sharp's, Skinners and St.Austell represented, along with the home brewed beers from across the road.
One small critisism is the Bar food menu. It's got very restaraunty of late. There should always be room for Scampi Louise!!

The Turks Head, St Agnes

I too visited the Turks on 29th August...and also had the Salmon, mussels etc! The menu was interesting and the food was good. Service was excellent, as was the beer. During my stay they served Sharps Special, IPA and Doombar, Turks Ale, which is in fact St.Austell Tribute and a beer from the Ales of Scilly brewery on St Marys.
I,ve been to the pub many times over the years and its alwats been good. I must disagree with a previous poster about the new owners. Nicki is a perfect hostess and is always welcoming.

The Turks Head, St Agnes

A truly special pub. A good ever changing selection of real ales. I dont think its overly expensive and if it was there's a good reason for that isn't there? Its not exactly easy to get to, sometimes immpossible.

The Old Ale House, Truro

I agree, the best pub in Truro by a mile. A great after work pub, dont know about later in the evening as Truro does tend to die a bit after dark. Much better to go to St.Agnes .

The Square and Compass, Worth Matravers

Quite simply the best pub in the whole wide world!!
I have been going there for 30 years now, more frequently when I used to live in Southampton, but now i'm in Cornwall I still manage a couple of visits a year. Plenty of good camping nearby!

St Agnes Hotel, St Agnes

My local. St. Austell beer has improved alot in recent years since the arrival of head brewer Roger Ryman. The Aggie has suffered a bit recently due to changes of licencee but a good pub in my opinion.

The Driftwood Spars Hotel, St Agnes

An excellent pub if you're local. Probably pretty good if your not. Good selection of real ales, but probably too many for the winter trade. I always have a good time there. Jilland Gordon are

The Bunters Bar, Truro

Good selection of real ales, usually including Doombar and Tribute, in good condition. An excellent pub for watching football.
