The Pembury Tavern, Hackney

Amused by the previous comment, but don't expect the same service. I'm highly unlikely to still be in the kitchen at 22.30, my pies have pastry underneath as well as on top so you would still get to try some, I would not know if you were ordering in accurate grammatical Dutch and the wireless internet is free to all.

The Greyhound, Kensington

Decent beer, friendly service. Nice that the football commentary was only on in the back so you could avoid it if you wanted a conversation.

The Beaconsfield, Kensington

Pretty quiet when I popped in for a pint yesterday, but service was friendly and te beer in good condition. Pride or Broadside on offer. Decent enough if I'm in the area.

The Cat's Back, Wandsworth

First came here around 1994, it hasn't changed much in appearance since then, so it's not a new old look. Went in last night, and it's good to see an improvement in the range of beer since my last visit a year or so ago. Sambrook's Wandle, Downton MpH and Slater's Summer something, all in good condition. It's nice to go somewhere that doesn't have a corporate Pubco makeover feel to it. Will continue to visit whenever I'm in the area.

The Bree Louise, Euston

I visited last night and thoroughly enjoyed my evening. A good range of beer, staff who got my companion's drink right on all bar the first visit to the bar, music not overpowering as the earlier visit suggests. Perhaps they read the review? It's an area a visit regularly, and I'll go back. Sorry Doric.

The Blind Beggar, Whitechapel

Had an ok pint last night, but there was a bit of a vomit smell about. Wouldn't go out of my way to go again

The Southwark Tavern, London Bridge

Not a bad pub. The service wasn't slow particularly, but I was there later on and three staff seemed plenty. Enjoyed the music, and the bar staff found out what one of the tunes was for me. May go back if I'm in the area. The Adnams was past it's best but the London Pride was fine.

The Wheatsheaf, Borough

Cosy little pub. Decently kept Youngs but not by any stretch the range of choice as the Market Porter. Friendly. Will go back if the Porter is packed.

The Castle, Holborn

Visited for the first time last night, after a recommendation. Tried three of the beers; all well kept and delicious. Particularly liked the Redcar Best Bitter. The atmosphere was lively enough to drown out the music mentioned earlier. Only downside was the toilets. The cold tap worked but there was no paper to dry my hands afterwards.

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

I haven't seen many "Hoxton types" either. Happy that beer sells out; it is replaced by something equally good before too long! One of my favorite pubs ever.

The Blackfriar, Blackfriars

Fascinating interior. Elgoods Golden Newt on guest was in good condition. A bit of a squeeze but I didn't expect any different on a Friday evening. If people have noticed a funny smell, they may notice it in a few more pubs once it's not smothered by cigarette smoke! Would visit again if nearby.

The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell

Best bitter superb, lemon & ginger a bit hazy, but tasted good. can see it spilling well into the street when the smoking ban comes. Staff helpful. Will be back for a second visit!
