The Queens Arms, South Kensington

Want to add some support to this lovely small pub - somewhat bizarre complaints from prom-goers about the fact that it gets so busy - what do you expect? If you go to any public event in London, be it football match, theatre, or concert - it's not unusual to find the pubs in the immediate vicinity somewhat busy afterwards. It's a small pub in a quiet mews - put yourself in the position of the local residents.... Prom-goers may be "loyal", but in practical terms they're still a large crowd of people descending en masse on a small place at the same time. Much like a bunch of football fans, except most football fans I know show more patience trying to get a post-match pint...

Got to be honest, had I been working behind the bar and been asked why there weren't more staff on to cater for prom crowds, I might not have shown the admirable restraint just to ignore the question!

Well-kept beer, good atmosphere, reasonable grub - a recommended boozer in Kensington.

The Tom Foolery, Bromley

Sorry CC12 SH, the fact is there are better pubs within the square mile that offer better beer for less money - that's just the way it is. I would have thought that the economic clich you mention will see the cheaper pubs do better than this slightly unatmospheric, inferior cousin of The Partridge. Decent beer, excellent staff and not a bad spot to watch the football but it's not worth paying more for.

The Bricklayers Arms, Bromley

Terrific pub, wonderfully kept Shepherd Neame ales, excellent value, very friendly staff and apparently immune from drunk youthful idiots who stick to the High Street.

Very little wrong with the Bricks - my favourite pub in Bromley.

The Partridge, Bromley

It's a decent pub, a good place to watch football as the Walkabout next door tends to act as a kind of idiot hoover. Maintained as a pretty standard Fullers town pub. The layout is interesting and adds character.

The service can be a little bit curt, I agree, but my bigger gripe with the place is the price of the drinks - the ale is pricey enough to compare to central London, which is very off-putting when most real ale pubs in the vicinity charge so much less. I'm not a fan of fruit-based drinks in the pub, but if your round contains a glass or two of wine you'd be advised to contact your bank manager before entry.

The Priory Arms, Stockwell

Unbelievable nonsense being spouted by people saying it's going downhill. The Priory is undeniably the finest pub for miles around (those "miles" including all of Clapham and beyond).

Constantly changing guest ales make every visit a new experience. Top-notch boozer, unbeatable in London as far as I'm concerned.

The Holman Clavel Inn, Culmhead

Just reading the name gives me a warm glow. There is no greater establishment on earth. I would happily die there. And I probably will.
