The Grill, Aberdeen

A good clean working man's boozer. The real ale was in good condition and they have a good selection of malts. A great place to escape her indoors when she's shopping.

A pleasant bar situated in the basement of the Brentwood hotel. Great choice of real ale and good food. About 5 minutes walk from the middle of Union st.

Premier, Widnes

A typical large room Weatherspoons pub.
The service was very good unlike so many other Weatherspoon outlets. A decent choice of real ale, i counted four and thats very good considering how many pubs nearby only serve fizz.
If you are in Widnes its worth calling in.

The Ferry Tavern, Penketh

I was in the Ferry on saturday night, it is still the best pub for miles around.

18 Jul 2007 15:34

The Crown and Cushion, Penketh

No change since my original comments.

Butchers Arms, Great Sankey

Quite a busy one bar local. The bar is situated in the middle of the pub and has seating on three sides.
A choice of two real ales plus all the usual fizzy stuff. Food is served in the evening and on Sundays but i have never tried it myself.
Your average suburban boozer.

The Ben Nevis Inn, Glen Nevis

Another must find pub, good beer, good service, good food. Real ale at the foot of Ben Nevis, a great stop for walkers and visiters alike.

16 Jun 2007 21:58

Grog and Gruel, Fort William

A must find for any real ale drinker, not only good beer but a good choice of beer.
The best pub in Fort william in my opinion, young or old this place is worth a visit.

The Blackfriars, Inverness

This pub was sinking faster than the Titanic but i am glad to say things have improved dramaticly since christmas. On the eve of the Rockness festival they had eight hand pumps on the go, the beer has allways been a little cold but its not bad by any means.
Well worth a visit.

The Drouthy Duck, Conon Bridge

Sadly the pub has now closed , i have no information about when and if it will reopen .

28 Nov 2006 21:56

The Sutherland Arms Hotel, Brora

The only real ale pub in Brora .
Some very unusual meals on the menu that includes ostrich and crocodile tails .
Although the pub is showing its age , i think it is well worth a visit .

24 Nov 2006 16:03

The Castle Hotel, Portmahomack

A very pleasant little pub in the fishing village of Portmahomack .
Real ale and a real log fire . All day opening in the summer months , not so out of season .
Popular with both locals and tourists alike .

24 Nov 2006 15:51

Maitlands Bar and Restaraunt, Tain

A very busy pub at weekends , well liked by Tain's under 30s . If you want a quiet pint with no loud music its not the place for you .
No real ale .

24 Nov 2006 15:35

The Trigger Pond, Great Sankey

I echo swilsops comments , the food is reasonable and the real ale is very good . The pub really does need some investment it is sadly going back the way .

23 Nov 2006 23:36

The Alexander Bain, Wick

I quite often visit this pub its still a decent place for real ale and good value meals , the service can sometimes be very slow . If you dont have a lot of time try somewhere else .

23 Nov 2006 23:28

The service is still a little slow but i have seen far worse , worth a visit .

23 Nov 2006 23:18

The Drouthy Duck, Conon Bridge

A change of ownership has resulted in the pub no longer selling real ale . Was a pub on the up but now sadly going backwards .

23 Nov 2006 23:11

The Star Inn, Tain

Very much a working mans boozer , no frills what so ever . Just started to sell real ale but for how long is anybodys guess . The nice thing about the Star is that you are never alone the locals are very friendly .

23 Nov 2006 23:04

The Sovereigns, Portsmouth

Family friendly pub , good value meals but the portions are not the most generous i have seen .
Three real ales on tap , all in very good condition .

17 Jul 2006 18:47

Good value meals in pleasant locacation between Dornoch and Golspie . No real ale , but popular with tourists , bikers , and locals .

16 Jul 2006 19:03

The Ferry Tavern, Penketh

Pat and Terry may have left the pub , but their daughter Jade still serves the best beer for miles around . Well worth finding on a summers day .

16 Jul 2006 13:37

The Clachnaharry Inn, Clachnaharry

Sadly this pub has gone backwards , having just been sold to a major brewery . Real ale has started to dry up , and the fizzy stuff has started to flow . I will not be back anytime soon .

16 Jul 2006 13:29

The Cromarty Arms Inn, Cromarty

Small friendly local , opposite Hugh Millars cottage .

The Station Hotel, Avoch

Used to be a real ale pub , but now has the fizzy stuff more often than not . On the whole , still not bad for food , and a pleasant place to stop on the black isle .

27 Nov 2005 22:42

Number 27, Inverness

A good pub , worth a visit . One sometimes two real ales on tap , often from local breweries . I have never tried the food , but it has a good reputation . Free newspapers at luchtime .

27 Nov 2005 22:30

Kings Highway, Inverness

Weatherspoons , cheap and cheerfull food . Three real ales are usually on tap , mostly from Scotland , but the quality does vary . The pub can get very busy at evening times , especially at weekends . All in all well worth a visit , and very affordable .

27 Nov 2005 21:49

The Melvich Hotel, Melvich

The owner of this small hotel also brews his own beer . If you are visiting the area , and like real ale give him a bell . I have tasted about 5 of his beers , all of them are very good .

27 Nov 2005 18:43

The Clachnaharry Inn, Clachnaharry

Arguably the best pub in the city of Inverness . Good food and very good beer . A good choice of real ale , never less than 3 , and i have visited this pub a number of times .

27 Nov 2005 18:30

The Lower Angel, Warrington

Best real ale pub in Warrington by a mile. Good honest crack about Rugby, Football, etc . A ned free zone, no burberry baseball caps in here.

29 May 2005 23:06

The Old Peacock, Beeston

A good pub to visit if you are watching Leeds utd. As a Bolton supporter i can honestly say the natives are friendly, and there has allways been a hearty welcome.

28 May 2005 16:58

The Keystane, Glasgow

A decent enough pub, friendly, bar snacks etc. A very good pub for away supporters visiting near by Celtic park. As this bar is largely ignored by the home support.

28 May 2005 16:22

The Kilcoy Arms, Tore

This was a good pub, but sadly closed its doors several months ago. The pub used to be owned by the black isle brewery.

28 May 2005 16:01

The Ferry Tavern, Penketh

Good choice of real ale, Excellent choice of Whisky. A little difficult to find but well worth finding. On the bank of both river mersey and Sankey St helens canal. Best beer for miles around.

27 Apr 2005 13:35

The Benleva Hotel, Drumnadrochit

One of the best real ale pubs in the north of Scotland. Usually two ales on tap, sometimes three. A genuine free house, with ever changing Scottish ales. Good mix of clientele both locals and visitors. Good food to boot.

27 Apr 2005 13:20

Thunderton House, Elgin

Real ale, decent food, and busy enough to have atmosphere without it being to crowded. No football colours allowed , that suits me fine.

24 Dec 2004 15:18

The Inver Inn, Inver

This bar and pool room, is the hub of the small village of inver. Local youngsters use the pool room till 8 pm, while the older generation enjoy the crack next door in the bar. Low ceilings thoughout add to a cosy atmosphere. Although a locals pub, tourists and visitors are allways made welcome. If you want meals, or afternoon opening you would be better visiting the nearby town of Tain.

23 Dec 2004 20:42

The Nelson, Didsbury

Good cheap working mans boozer. Good for watching the football. Always friendly banter, a great place to get away from her indoors.

11 Dec 2004 18:57

The Crown and Cushion, Penketh

A medium sized one bar local. Cheap and cheerful lunches served 7 days a week. Only one real ale available, and the quality does vary. Can get busy at weekends, also When football is being shown on sky sports.

7 Dec 2004 15:08

The Phoenix Inn / Morgans Bar, Inverness

The bar is a real step back in time, to the days of spit and saw dust. If you like real ale and a place of genuine character it is worth a visit. Usually three handpumps on, but quality of beer does vary from day to day. As for morgans the food is very average as is the decor.

7 Dec 2004 14:16

The Alexander Bain, Wick

Well worth a visit, oasis in real ale desert.Three different ales ontap. Cheap and cheerful weatherspoons food. There are quiet corners for conversation or eating. Also Large area with big screen TV for followers of sport. The building was once a telephone exchange, and the gents toilets certainly have character.
