The Kings Head, Enfield

Orrreewh, I don't find the XB that great here. Maybe I don't like it as a beer though. The refurb has nothing on what it used to be like (what the hell is that crazy boat in the back about??). But it is GREAT to have it back. It used to be the best pub in Enfield Taan. Never going to be as good as when my mate was the manager or when you could use the pool tables upstairs but we all grow old and it's just good to be able to go somewhere familiar and not see another great pub rotting away in one of many a country where many a great tradition is dying. Not like it was but at least it still lives.

The Picture Palace, Ponders End

This place used to be well dodgy when I lived nearby. Good real ale (as usual for a wetherspoon) but not too nice to bring my friends who didn't live in ponders end. The Goat is hte place for this area, unless you crave real ale, in which case come here. And Ponders End young blokes will always do what they do in car parks. Just 'allow it'!

The Wishing Well, Palmers Green

Only go in here for Football. It's cramped and mixed fans which I hate. Guinness is good, but if you're sitting you'll have to turn your head to face a screen pretty much anywhere and if you stand there is nowhere to put your drink.

The Tottenham, Soho

My girlfriend and I usually stop in here when we are shopping int he area. if we can get a seat. It's pretty small upstairs but always has a few guest ales on and you'll get served pretty quickly. Seating is cramped so it's not the place to go with a crowd for a session, but for two or three it's fantastic to sit yourself down in after beating the streets of the west end before getting the tube home.

The Goat, Ponders End

I have not been here for a while as I have moved from Ponders End but it is a great pub, and THE choice for Ponders End. Great atmosphere, the manager is superb and wont take any crap. It used to be great for football but the smoking ban killed it unfortunately. Spurs v Arsen*l games were awesome in those days. Happy days, but at least you can get served during a match now. Nopt the staffs fault, it was just that rammed! Last time I was in there was for Inter/Barca in last years Champions League semi. It was pretty quiet but the staff are always good and the clientele are the best in the area. When I moved up the road it would have been nice to take this pub with me and brought back the smoking, even though I have since quit. Would give it a 10 but it never has any good ales apart from Greene King IPA, although the Guinness is damn good.

Lamb Inn, Edmonton

I usually only visit this pub to watch football, and find that in this area the state of a pub during a football match is a good indicator of it's quality. On match nights you will predictably find it full of Spurs fans (get in early if it's a big game) and it's my primary choice for watching football locally. Most pubs in Edmonton are not going to fill you with joy, but this one at least doesn't make you feel as though you're on the wrong side of the Berlin Wall. It's decor is welcoming, the girls behind the bar are friendly, know who's next and might even remember what you ordered last time. It has an unthreatening atmosphere, plenty of screens for the game, plus a big projector at the back and usually has a couple of real ales on the pumps. Often Greene King IPA and Wells Bombadier, although that had been replaced with Wychwood Hobgoblin last time. Anyway, most fellas in there dink lager anyway.

The Alfred Herring, Palmers Green

I visit this pub regularly and it is a fine pub for a quick pint of a lunchtime, an evening as a couple or with family. On a Friday or Saturday night, expect what you would with any other Wetherspoon pub in North London. Full of kids, loud and more than a little tasteless plus surly bouncers but any other night it's fine to sit down for a few drinks, the current staff are all very good and although the real ale selection includes the ubiquitous Ruddles, Abbot and Directors at the pumps there are currently two frequently (more than four per week, usually) changing guest ales. Despite Palmers Green having some good restaurants, Thursday's Curry night and you will find it full of people enjoying their microwaved curries, so don't expect a table if there are more than three of you. I don't know who posted the picture with the muddy 4x4 in front, but it gives a slightly unfair impression of this generally agreeable pub.
