The Sun Inn, Dent

I feel sorry for this place. It's as if the owners just don't the potential of their own pub. As the only pub in Dent with a beer garden you'd think they would make the most of it. No - expect a car park beer garden with weeds every where and napkins and straws trodden into the gravel. A bit of gardening and care and it would be great. As for the beer - they're almost there. On my recent visit the barman asked what kind of beer I liked and suggested Rhatas from Whitby - offering samples just in case. Beer tasted of vinegar but happily changed for another beer which tasted less like vinegar (still there!). As for the pub itself, it is very traditional with open fires. The food looked ok and was about 2-3 cheaper than across the road at the George and Dragon. In conclusion, a pub which looks fantastic but still needs work on. So close but so far, far away! 6/10

The White Lion, Cray

Stayed here with my Dad for a few days hiking in the local area. We were in the small barn opposite the pub, next to the stream. Good location - with plenty of walks available from the pub such as Bucken Pike, Bucken, Starbotton and Hubberholme. The pub itself is very traditional with stone floors and farming equipment hanging on the walls. Beer range included Timothy Taylors (Keighley) and Copper Dragon (Skipton). Food was very good - I especially recommend the belly pork and black pudding. Very friendly staff. My only improvement would be for them to include a guest beer or one of the more local breweries (Dent, Yorkshire Dales, Wensleydale etc). 8/10

The George And Dragon Hotel, Dent

I have visited this pub many times over the past year and have enjoyed each time. The beer is always in excellent condition and there is a wide selection of Dent brewery beers plus a guest and cider on hand pull. Food is very good (although better at dinnertime) and reasonably priced. My only criticism is that the interior is not as 'pubby' as the Sun Inn opposite - get the Dent brewery back in the Sun Inn and it'd be great! Aviator and Ramsbottom beers are my favorites. 7/10

The Fat Cat, Sheffield

Fantastic pub and my favorite in Sheffield. Really can't fault it. Beer is very fresh and they offer a good selection from Kelham Island Brwery (Next door) plus a few guest beers and an array of german and belgian bottles. Also very cheap! A pint of their best bitter cost around 2...

The Castle Inn, Skipton

Cosy pub with possibly the best beer garden in Skipton - always packed on a summer afternoon. Beer is usually Theakstons (best bitter and sometimes XB) plus a guest beer. Highly Recommended.

The Kings Head, Kettlewell

The most 'publike' pub in Kettlewell in my opinion. There's always a beer from the Yorkshire Dales Brewery at Askrigg plus favourites such as Tetleys, Black Sheep, Golden Sheep and a guest beer.

2 minutes from Fold Farm Campsite which is handy for a beer or two before bed. 7/10

The Falcon Inn, Arncliffe

Visited this pub on Sunday and had a great evening. After hearing all the bad reports on this site and others we expected to find the pub closed or the landlord to ruin our evening.

However, it wasn't the case! After walking the 2/3 miles along the river from Hawkswick Cote campsite we found the pub open (open until 10:30pm on a sunday). Our first impressions were that we felt we'd gone back in time but felt that it was definately worth going to. We ordered 2 pints of Taylors best bitter (came to about 2.60 a pint which was the cheapest we'd had all weekend in the area) and sat in the back room with the stuffed animals on the wall.

Apart from us there was the odd local who came in for a pint or two. We pretty much had the pub to ourselves. A couple of times the landlord would have a chat to us and ask us where we'd come from. He was particuarly interested in our studies and told us about his two kids aswell.

We didn't have food but there was a kitchen to the right of the bar.

In our view, we had a great time and didn't find the landlord rude at all. If anything, i just think some people just don't get Northern people!

A great Dales experience. Will visit again!

The Station Inn, Ribblehead

A fantastic pub next to Ribblehead train station.

Yes the toilets could do with a bit more effort ,and the beer is expensive but the pub serves as a great finish to a walk up whernside and back.

Beers include black sheep and local dent beers plus a guest beer. Food is avaliable and there is a separate dining area fo those who want to eat in smarter surroudings. Pies and other snacks can be bought at the bar.

Clientele is of the 'outdoorsy type' but what else would you expect?

Great pub in beautiful scenery.

The Crown Hotel, Horton in Ribblesdale

Ok for a quick pint but nothing special in terms of beer.

Beer range is the usual Theakstons and Black sheep and is quite expensive. 3.15 for a pint of old perculier?

There is a central bar which serves two rooms - one for dog owners - plus another room which serves as more of a restaurant. Haven't tried the food but there looks to be plenty of choice - with an emphesis on locally sourced produce.

As said before..this pub is more catered to hotel residents than drinkers.

The Kings Arms, Leyburn

Traditional pub with an open log fire.

Yorkshire Dales Brewery (located in a barn just up the street) brews a special beer for the pub.

Beers tend to be Theakstons, Black sheep, Yorkshire dales brewery plus a guest beer.

The Helwith Bridge, Helwith Bridge

Welcoming, warm pub filled with railway memorabilia. Food is great (I tried the homemade steak and ale pie) and the beer is excellent with plenty of choice.

'Helwith Bridge' Bitter is also avaliable - brewed by the three peaks brewery in nearby Settle.

The pub is mainly frequented by hikers, climbers and cavers - some stay in the small bunk barn which is in the pub car park.

Highly recommended!
