In reply to Rich66: I've found the bar staff helpful on previous occasions when I've asked about the beers on offer. They will give you a small taster if you ask.

The Old English Gentleman, Waltham Abbey
I drove past the pub this morning, and it has been boarded up, so it is definitely closed now. It's a shame as I enjoyed a few of the beer festivals here.

This is a smoke-free pub, which is something we appreciated. They also had an extensive and tasty menu, including traditional pub dishes and some more interesting specials.
I was also happy with the selection of real ales (London Pride, Green King IPA and Old Speckled Hen)

I liked this pub, traditional pub decor in dark wood, nice Fuller's beer, good selection of pies on the menu.

Seemed strangely bright in the lounge on Friday evening.
I notice they have "guinness happy hour all day" on St. Patricks day (17 March).

Smallish local pub, a bit more friendly looking that others in Enfield town centre. Had a selection of real ales, and interesting menu (although suffering a bit from spelling mistakes). Sky sports on TV, strangely bright sofa arrangement in the corners, jukebox playing loud pop music.

The Porcupine, Leicester Square
Crowded downstairs, but there were tables free upstairs so we sat there and enjoyed the view up Charing Cross Road. A good traditional pub.

Had a rather frustrating wait in here on Saturday evening when there were only two bar staff upstairs. The place seemed a bit soulless, but then I like having some quiet. The beer and food was fine and reasonably priced as usual since it's Wetherspoons.

I was a bit put off as this pub had no real ales. Otherwise a pretty average place.

Bit of a dive, no real ales, no food . Two pool tables, big TV with cable or Sky.

The Knights Templar, Chancery Lane
A huge space, like a lot of Wetherspoons, but we found a more intimate seat in the rooms up the back. Good value real ales.
I agree with the previous comment, the toilets were impressive.

Down a characterful dark alley, and full of a good selection of guest ales, which pleased me. Also full of a load of lawyer types, but they're ok I suppose. We didn't try the food but the menu sounded good.

The Hog in the Pound, Bond Street
Last time I went to this pub it was incredibly smokey, which was very offputting.

The Pontefract Castle, Marylebone
There are loads of pubs near my office but this is the one we usually go to these days. London Pride on tap and a good menu of traditional pub meals. We have to go early ish to get in for lunch as it gets crowded.

This is my favourite pub close to home. They are a McMullens pub, with decent real ales. They have a carvery for Sunday lunch which we have enjoyed on several occasions.
It's a large-ish "family friendly" pub so some may be put off by that, but I like being able to have a quiet drink in a traditional unpretentious atmosphere.

The Morris Clown, Bampton
We tried to go to this pub while on holiday nearby, but it was closed. The only suggestion why were the words "39 days to go!" chalked on a board by the door. Does anyone know what is happening to the place?
