The Hundred House, Bromsgrove

Now open as The Hundred House. Basic food on offer.

The Red Lion Hotel, Fareham

Bar area finished to a high standard, but entirely devoid of atmosphere.

Dun Cow Inn, Sedgefield

Landlord is rather like a public schoolmaster who peers over his half-moon spectacles and demands to know if you are enjoying yourself. Nice pub though. Tony Blair took George W here for lunch in 2004 (apparently he had his meal cooked in a special CIA van outside) They do accommodation too. Haven't tried it, but must be better than the dismal local Travelodge.

The Golden Lion, Charford

A surprisingly new & well appointed pub given the area. Part of a Brewer's Fayre or similar chain.

The Hundred House, Bromsgrove

Massive refurbishment underway. Will soon reopen as the Hundred House with a food & family bias. Watch this space

The Queens Head, Bromsgrove

Now refurbed after a flood in 2004. Now much improved

Ewe and Lamb, Stoke Prior

Expensive and pretencious gastropub, but the food is nothing special. Popular with posers.

The Crown, Catshill

Corporate food pub, but with a reasonable bar area. Ticks all the boxes but still manages to lack something.

The Dodford Inn, Dodford

Pleasant village pub with a large beer garden. Some question marks over the drinks though; Stella didn't taste like Stella and Bacardi didn't taste like Bacardi.

The Park Gate Inn, Dodford

A quaint and interesting pub with a formal restaurant area. Good beer garden for the summer.

The Turks Head, Bromsgrove

Large, old fashioned, friendly. A local's pub.

The Queens Head, Bromsgrove

Dark, dirty, dingy and disappointing. Avoid it.

The Golden Cross Hotel, Bromsgrove

THis is the local Wetherspoon's establishment, so the usual caveats apply;

On the downside, dirty tables, ashtrays overflowing with butts, bus tickets and ripped up betting slips :o)

On the upside, the drinks are cheap, and in the small town of Bromsgrove this is a surprisingly fashionable eveing venue, second only to the Hogs Head.

The Red Lion, Bromsgrove

A proper old-fashioned drinker's pub in the town centre. Excellent beer and a strange mixture of people. Well worth a visit.

The Hogshead, Bromsgrove

At night, it's the only place to be for under 30s. Everone else steer clear.

Reasonable food and atmos during the day for the rest of us though.

The Hundred House, Bromsgrove

This impressive building has seen better days. Pub operations seem confined to the dingy public bar on the right-hand side (about 10% of the available floorspace). Popular with local trades after work, and always fairly friendly.

Much money needs to be spent to put this pub on the map. Unfortunately, its value as real eastate would probably make that uneconomic.

Such is the size of this building that the upstairs contains a nine-bedroomed living quarters, and the basement contains a small-bore firing range, used until recently by the Police.

The Hop Pole Inn, Bromsgrove

Refurbished in 2003 to a good standard, but this is still a very small pub. Live music every night except for Mondays and Tuesdays. Beer is well kept and real ales are always available, but other drinks (especially the draught-only wine) are not as impressive.

The Crabmill Inn, Bromsgrove

A grand building on the way into Bromsgrove from the North. Inside, the pub has a drinking, pool, Sky Sports type bias, but is also popular with younger drinkers. The interior is now looking pretty shabby, but due a refit in early 2005.
