The Wellington Inn, Darley

Mainly a food pub but the beers are well kept.
Timmy Taylor Landlord, Black Sheep and Copper Dragon Golden Pippin.
The food is excellent but not cheap.
An Enterprise Inn pub sadly.
The bar staff are very friendly and welcoming.
Also within walking distance of where I live, which can be very dangerous!

Royal Oak Inn, Harrogate

Why don't people lave reviews?
Great pub, full of locals enjoying themselves. You are never alone in a Yorkshire pub, always someone to talk to.
Sadly the beer is mainly Green King, but here is a stout on gas that is very drinkable.
Great range of specialist Gins available too.
A Free House that doesn't use it's title to the full extent.
Good range of 'craft' bottled beers there from various countries.
Good range of food on offer too, enjoyed our meal.

27 Oct 2014 16:29

The Flying Dutchman, Summerbridge

Walked to the pub, about three miles away. Sam Smiths owned with Best Bitter the only beer on tap.
Mild, Lager and Sovereign on gas but still very good.
The Mild was £1.34 a pint, the Lager £2.09 and the Best at just under £2.00.
The food was excellent, good homemade pub grub...steak and kidney pudding for £7.00.
No frills local but all the better for being so.
Dogs allowed in the back bar.
Support your local, there aren't many left like this.

27 Oct 2014 16:25

The Prince of Wales, Ledbury

A dangerous place to visit as it is impossible to walk out after one pint due to the choice of beers there!
It was one of the reasons that we moved to Ledbury, we can now walk there.
The beer range varies but much of it comes from local breweries.
Very good food.
Music often live on Sunday afternoons.
Found off the High Street tucked up a cobbled alleyway behind the large beamed building on stilts!

17 Jan 2013 18:22

The Retreat, Ledbury

Very welcoming locals pub. Wye Valley HPA is always on tap and very well kept. As we are now local we can walk there and enjoy a few!
Not tried the food yet but it looks very tasty and home cooked.
Quiz night once a month and also music evenings and an open mic night.
They do a hearty breakfast until about 11.45. Tried to get one just after 12 and they had stopped, sadly.
Well worth a visit if you are in Ledbury.

17 Jan 2013 18:19

Green Dragon, Worcester

A roaring log fire greeted us at the pub. Good range of local beers including one brewed especially for them.
Very chatty locals, landlord and barmaid.
Food was vert good, Allyson had a steak that was perfect, very rarely the case. I had a homemade beefburger which was also very tasty.
Loads of beams and character. Well worth a visit.

17 Jan 2013 18:15

The Seven Stars, Bristol

The Seven Toilets!
Wife refuses to go to the pub because of the smell.
Bugger, as the beer range is wonderful.
Keep hoping that they discover drain cleaner or bleach.
If they do let me know and we, the Royal WE, will be back for a session.

10 Sep 2012 16:37

The Nags Head, Great Malvern

Best pub in the area. Amazing range of beers, Three Tuns Stout on over the weekend, stunning.
Food, as always is top notch.
Can't fault the pub apart from the smokers outside. Be great to sit in the fresh air sometimes but no chance here, inside is dark and womb like, outside a scene from Dante's Inferno!!
Don't let that put you off though, still an 8 out of 10 pub.

10 Sep 2012 16:28

The Prince of Wales, Ledbury

What a great pub. Visted there yesterday as we were passing thru Ledbury. Just mussed lunch although the food that people were finishing looked very good. Beer choice is excellent and the locals very friendly. Met a guy called Tonic who could not have been more hospitable. Thanks.
Great band playing, music every Sunday around 16.00.
A must to visit.

10 Sep 2012 16:25

The Old Green Tree, Bath

Top pub. Excellent range of beers, always varying and always good. So good to find the old fashioned boozer still going, never short of conversation there. Small bar at front and snug at the back.
Magic

19 Jan 2012 13:46

Dandy Lion, Bradford on Avon

Great pub, full of atmosphere.
I would say that it is more of a food pub than a local.
The pub is laid out on two floors, more of a Restaurant upstairs. The back room is quite intimate
The food is very good and lots of it. The homemade burgers are very tasty.
Beer selection as per normal Waddies pubs but well kept.
I can also walk to the pub.

7 Dec 2011 15:50

The Seven Stars, Bristol

A great pub. Top stuff. RCH PG Steam on tap and delicious. A local Porter too. Four others looked good but not enough time, sadly. A treat in the heart of town

24 Oct 2011 13:29

The George, Bradford on Avon

Getting even better. The beers are now on stillage behind the bar.
Heaven has come that little bit closer.

29 Sep 2011 15:58

The Highland Drove, Great Salkeld

Stayed at the pub recently and give it a big thumbs up.
The food was excellent, we had a slight problem with the steak but this was resolved very quickly and without any fuss whatsoever. The pie that I had was just like Ma used to make (from County Durham).
The beer was also very good (we found the pub using the GBG). A mild was on tap as were three other guest ales. All very well kept.
The room was clean and tidy when we arrived and can recommend the hearty English breakfast.
We left full of good food and beer.
The owbers also have a second pub close by, must be good too I imagine.
Don't miss out on a visit here. We will be back when we can, we live near Bath.

29 Sep 2011 15:56

The Axe and Cleaver, Much Birch

Visited the pub twice over the weekend, the second time with ten other people. The service was excellent both times, the food first class. Every dish was hot, the vegetables done to perfection too. A friend who calls himself a 'steak pie aficionado' said that the pie at the A and C was the best that he had ever had. Couldn't fault anything. It is a shame that it is not closer than one and half hours drive away! Don't miss this gem. Only given it a 7 as the beer choice was limited to Pedigree.

1 Aug 2011 16:50

The Castle, Bradford on Avon

Top notch pub.
Great beers, very good food and friendly staff.
Couldn't get any better.
Very good range of ales, some I had heard of and some not. I can now walk to the pub as moved to Bradford a few days ago.
Gentlemen watch out when you need to rid yourself of the beer, the step up in the gents is a killer!

2 Jun 2011 20:02

The George, Bradford on Avon

One of those pubs that you all wish you had on your doorstep. Now I have, just moved to Bradford and can walk to at least three very good pubs serving very good real ale.
Live music here on Fridays and Saturdays so worth a visit.
Had a dark stout when I visted recently, very good.

2 Jun 2011 20:00

The Three Horseshoes, Bradford on Avon

Good beer festival over this last weekend. Good range of beers however they didn't last and Saturday saw a limited choice. Good to know that Bradford has a great range of real ale pubs including the Three Shoes.
Jazz band was worth a listen too.

2 Jun 2011 19:58

The Black Horse, Cherhill

Now under new mangement and doing well.
Three handpumps. One 6X one Hobgoblin and one guest....Bath Gem coming up.
Food at a very good standard.
Back on the list of good local pubs.
If eating you will probably need to book.
No bands now just good food, beer and locals.

26 Feb 2011 10:28

The Carters Rest, Wroughton

Top pub.
Best around.
Best beer choice for miles.
Beer,beer and more beer.
No food thankfully.
Wow factor 10 out of 10

26 Feb 2011 10:26

The Hare and Hounds, Corsham

Good pub with good food, pies are a speciality from a Bath Company, a good selection of beer.
People of Pickwick are lucky. Two great pubs to chose from.
Couple of decent beers on...my favourite Deuchars took pride of place.
Not expensive but not cheap either.
Us your local of lose it!

26 Feb 2011 10:24

The Two Pigs, Corsham

Still a good local pub and worth a visit.
Good selection of beers, mainly Stonehenge Ales. Well kept.
Band night on Monday. Last band were exceptional.
If you are in the area this is a must.
Strange opening times so do check before making a trip.
Enjoy

26 Feb 2011 10:21

The Methuen Arms, Corsham

Just had a lot, and I mean a lot of money thrown at it.
Beer selection...not bad.
Tried to get a pint of 125 Stout, barman poured it and immediately said that it was off. Turned the label around and that was that. A least he knew his beer and wasn't going to serve anyone else.
Next beer out was very good but can't remember what it was..sorry.
Food expensive but looked and smelled very good although fish was obviously on the menu. Needs to sort out a filtration system.
Well worth a vist.

26 Feb 2011 10:19

The Kings Arms, All Cannings

We stumbled across the pub whilst missing a tuning to the one that we were loking for!
I am glad that we did.
Very good landlord keeping two Waddies ales and a guest which was from Castle Rock brewery called Hemlock, very tasty.
The food was excellent, the Steak and Ale pie was substantial and I struggled to finish it. However I did but no room for pubs. Next time!
Try this one out, you won't be disappointed.

17 Nov 2010 16:16

The Rose and Crown, Chippenham

At last a decent pub with well priced food and beer in Chippenham!
Timmy Taylors Landlaord and St Austell Tribute both at 2.20 a pint.
I had the Lasagne and my wife had the Chicken curry. Both very good and sensible helpings.
Friendly Landlady and Landlord.
Refreshing to find theese days.
Keep up the good work.

25 Oct 2010 17:08

The Talbot Inn, Calne

Good local town pub, probably the best in Calne.
The food is remarkably good value and the beer has always been good.
If you want to eat there either turn up very early or book.
Try it and see.

13 Sep 2010 18:25

The White Horse Inn, Winterbourne Bassett

A real gem.
Called in there last night on the way home from the British Society of Dowsers conference. We were both wanting a clean pub with good food and a friendly welcome. We got all three in bucket loads!
A Waddies pub with the usual and very well kept ales on.
The food was excellent and the landlord very chatty without be over the top.
It is good to find a country pub these days that is good on service, food and beer.
We shall be back.

13 Sep 2010 18:20

The Hobgoblin, Bath

Still a great pub serving great ales.
Looks a bit spit and sawdust as you walk in however ignore that and get stuck in to the ales.
The guy behind the bar was very knowlegeable and helpful.
A haven amongst the modern 'trendy pubs' in Bath, not a tourisy haunt but all the better for that. The music was heavy however goes this the style of pub and the beer.
Not a family pub but great for a couple of beers and a chat.
Well done keep up the good work.

3 Jul 2010 10:47

The White Horse Inn, Compton Bassett

Wow what a great pub!
Got there on a very busy evening to find no tables available and the prospect of trying to find another pub for food.
Tara, the landlady, came to our rescue and said that she would talk to the chef to see if he would be ok to do food after 21.00. The answer was yes and we sat down with a pint of Bath Hare (excellent) to wait.
The food was very good and all served with a smile.
Great to find a local pub with good food and well kept local ales.
They also do b and b and have a skittles alley.
Get down and support this pub.

28 Jun 2010 12:41

Bridge Inn, Horton

What a shame.
Wonderful location, right beside the Kennet and Avon Canal. Idyllic.
Spoilt by a man that has perhaps been in the trade for to long.
Beer was very good and the food was good by pub standards.
Landlord? Not a happy bunny!
Cheer up mate, you could have a wonderful pub with a fabulous trade.
Smile.
3 is all you get. And really 2 of those is for the location

19 Jun 2010 17:34

The Carters Rest, Wroughton

Top notch pub.
Great beer selection, almost a beer festival every day!
Well worth a diversion off M4 to visit.

6 Jun 2010 14:02

The Peterborough Arms, Chippenham

Having just moved into the area recently we have been trying to find a good friendly local serving decent real ales and great food.
Finally we have, The Peterborough Arms ticks all the boxes.
Friendly bar staff, very jovial Landlord/Chef and wife, a good selection of Waddies beers and excellent food, better than normal pub grub. I had a gammon steak whilst the wife had Scallops with black pudding and a balsamic reduced sauce. WOW!
Nothing was too much trouble.
This one comes highly reccommended.
Keep up the good work.

6 Jun 2010 13:59

The Red Lion, Avebury

It's crap.
Don't go.
If custom drops off maybe we can get a chage of landlords....or owners!
Perhaps to much to hope for.
Can't give a minus so 0 will have to do.
Come on guys get a life.

27 Oct 2009 19:20

The Red Lion, Fernhurst

Good village pub.
Beer by Fullers (tied house).
Pride very drinkable.
Food also very good, pub grub with a few specials.
Quiz night so was busy with locals, all very friendly.
Worth a visit.

27 Oct 2009 19:18

Harts Head Hotel, Giggleswick

Top pub inthe area.
An excellent range of real ale...,any local breweries including Wensleydale and Lancaster.
The Lancaster Black was too good!
The staff here are very friendly and welcoming.
A family run pub with good beer, good food and good people.
What more do you need.
I am not local sadly otherwise my beer consumption would rise at an alarming rate!

13 Oct 2009 07:20

The Winterton Arms, Chiddingfold

Good pub let down by the choice of beers.
Sadly this is down to the brewery not the Landlord and Landlady.
The food was excellent and I would recommend this pub to all locals.
Beers were Spitfire (very drinkable) and Green King IPA (I don't like the company policy so I don't touch the stuff).
Don't let the beer choice put you off.
Mine host get top marks. We were looked after like Royalty.

21 Aug 2009 01:29

The Crown, Chiddingfold

Great choice of real ales on.
A good stop of place.
Didn't try the food but hey the beer is everything isn't it.
The beer was from a Sussex brewery and sadly I cannot remember the name of it. Must be fairly new I guess. Excellent pint....4.2% but tasted like Summer Lightning.
Great interior...you can imagine the old coaches still pulling up at The Inn.

21 Aug 2009 01:26

The Caradon Inn, Upton Cross

Under new owners.
They have done a good job inside the pub, with a few settees and comfortable chairs around the pub.
The beer choice was ok, but not outstanding. I was driving so none for me.
Food was ok-ish. We had Sunday lunch there and the meat was a little tough and the rest was a little lacklustre.
Early days I guess.

21 Aug 2009 01:23

Exeter Inn, Topsham

Great local.
Stopped there for the night on the way to Cornwall.
They don't do food...hooray. Just a good local pub selling excellent ale.
Teignworthy on as were two other local ales.
Accomodation was ok and comfortable.
Be warned. If the Landlady's brother in law is staying take your ear plugs...he snores!
Fun pub.

21 Aug 2009 01:20

The Station Inn, Ribblehead

Bit of a dung hole!
Great location. Hence the score of 1 for the view.
It could be so good with a little effort.

20 Jul 2009 13:32

The Wheatsheaf Inn, Ingleton

Just back form spending two weeks in the village/small town.
Wheatsheaf was closed for a week to be re-decked and re-furbished.
Beer range seemed ok.
Food was a little lack lustre.
One of the bar staff didn't like pouring flat pints and gave some bizarre reason for not taking off the sparkler!
Oh well.
The other bar staff were excellent though, perhaps she was having a bad day.
Worth a visit if in the area however the Three Horshoes was more welcoming and better food.

20 Jul 2009 13:30

The Crown Hotel, Horton in Ribblesdale

Visited the pub before the summer rush and after having walked nearby Pen Y Ghent.
Dying for a pint......Black Sheep on which was drinkable.
Asked for a pint of tap water and the landlord (I presumme) said that they don't do tap water they only sell it in bottles!!!!
How difficult is it to turn on a tap!
If I had just gone in the pub and asked for water, then fair enough. However I had just bought two pints of beer.
Ain't gonna go back.
Shame.

20 Jul 2009 13:26

The Marton Arms, Thornton in Lonsdale

A great pub with a very good selection of ales.
The food was ok, pub grub. It was better when the pub wasn't busy.
Landlady seemed a little grumpy, not sure why as they seemed to be doing a roaring trade.
The bar staff generally were very helpful.
Getting close to a 10 however let down by food and landlady.

20 Jul 2009 13:22

The Lord Nelson, Langho

A good local pub.
Last time I was there they had Deuchars. This time the guest had just finished and they were waiting for the next to settle. Had Marston Pedigree and one other on.
Food is good basic pub grub like Cheese and Onion pie and chips, meat pie and chips. They do steak but didn't have one.
Lots of locals ready to have a chat.
Good experience however the pub as with many is under threat of either sale or closure so use it while you can.

23 Jun 2009 09:59

Swan Inn, Shepton Mallet

Now called The Swan and very good it is too.
Spied it in the GBG (Good Beer Guide) and thought that I would give it a try.
Well dressed and approachable landlord served a delicious pint of Matthews Bob Wall Bitter at 4.2%.
I then had a pint of Cheddar Ales Potholer at 4.3%. Both pints served at a good temperature and very tasty.
Food was excellent too. We both had Shepherds pie.
The only niggle was the state of the toilets, could have done with a few quid spent to tidy them up.
Worth a visit.

1 Jan 2009 19:55

The Star, Godalming

Just had one of their hamburgers. Only one word for them....awesome!
Beer is always good here although just sometimes the Greene King family ales take over and it is difficult to find one from a micro! Small winge over.
Been coming to this pub on and off for over 20 years and to me it is the best that it has ever been (I am sure that I just heard a few old landlords turning in their graves)!!
The staff are always good, especially the mad American girl (she told me to say that)!
Support your local before it is to late.

11 Aug 2008 23:21

The Greyhound Hotel, Shap

A very good village pub that is worth a visit.
I stayed at the pub for one night recently, wished that it could have been longer. The welcome from the management and staff was incredibly warm and friendly.
The food was excellent but be warned the portions are vast, especially after enjoying several pints at the bar. One couple there had all three courses, not sure where it went but they obviously enjoyed it.
An excellent range of beer was at hand, much of it from micro breweries.
The rooms were a little spartan for my liking but they did not spoil our stay. The breakfast was awesome, same portions as the evening meal. Ace.

11 Aug 2008 23:03

The Catherine Wheel, Marshfield

Stayed here, sadly for only one night, and found the pub clean and friendly. The room was well kitted out and comfortable.
The food was ace although after a few pints at the bar I struggled to eat it all! Be warned the portions are large but of an excellent standard.
They have a choice of real ales at the bar with at least one from a local Cotswold brewery.
The breakfast was also very good and welcoming.
We shall be back.

11 Aug 2008 16:23

The Old Crown, Uley

Stayed at the Pub, sadly only for one night, but found it very accommodating and clean.
The choice of beer was excellent with at least two from the local Uley brewery.
The food was also of a good standard as was the hearty full English breakfast.
Had a band on the night we stayed who put on a good display.
Very friendly local pub, well worth a visit.

11 Aug 2008 16:19

The Inn On The Green, Ockley

Went to the Pub last night due to comments left by others on this site and wasn't disappointed.
The service was excellent, the waiters very attentive, and the food was of a very good standard and exceeded our expectations.
High recommended.
Oh the beer was also very good with two choices from local brewer Bill King. Two other hand pumps were turn around so I guess that four can be on at one time.

10 Aug 2008 11:33

The Cherrybank Inn, Perth

Excellent pub serving very very good beer and ace food.
Tried the Stewart Brewing Edinburgh Gold whilst at the pub. So good that I didn't want to leave.
Worth a trip to this pub. It deserve your custom.
Keep up the good work.

13 Jul 2008 14:15

The Vat and Fiddle, Nottingham

A great range of beers avaiable here. Not only is it the brewery tap for Castle Rock selling the complete range, it also has many guest beers and all very drinkable they are too.
Titanic Stout was ace and was the Preservation Ale, as was the Black Gold and the Harvest Pale.
Support your local and get down here as soon as you can.
Walking distance from the Station so no excuse!

28 May 2008 23:56

The Bell Inn, Nottingham

The pub is now closed completely for the refurb.
Had a few pints of mild there which were wonderful.
Never got to see the cellars (they run trips to see them on Tuesday evenings) sadly as they are on three levels and must be quite fascinating.
Oh well just have to go back!
Fingers crossed for the refurb. It is, allegedly, the largest pub in Nottingham so there is scope to have a mecca within the city centre however Greene King aren't noted for their creative streak so it might become yet another yoof bar or gastro pub!
Let's hope not.

28 May 2008 23:50

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham

What a fantastic pub! Or it could be if a little love and pride was put into running it.
The inside and setting is quite magnificent being built under the castle and into the sandstone caves.
However Green King pubs always seem to have something missing and here there are several 'things'!
The toilets were foul and the pub had a grubby and unkempt feel about it.
I guess that because of it's location and unique interior the tourists will flock to the pub, beer drinkers should leave it alone.
What a shame as it could be perfect with just 'a little wash and brush up'. Oh! And Green King selling it to someone who would care about this history of this little gem.
I gave it a 1 as it did serve GK mild!

28 May 2008 23:43

The Salutation Inn, Nottingham

Great pub. Great music. Great Beer. What more does anyone need? Great bar staff too.
A very good selection of beer on tap including a couple of milds.
Didn't have time to try the food but the write up's on the blackboard look very tempting.

28 May 2008 23:32

The Keans Head, Nottingham

Top pub in the city. The selection of beer was and is first class, not only local ales such as Castle Rock but also from further afield i.e Mauldons Micawbers Mild. The food is also excellent and they serve a multitude of specials during the course of the day.
The staff all had a ready smile and happy to chat about local issues etc.
This is what every town pub should be like. 10 out of 10 guys. Keep up the fantastic work.

28 May 2008 23:28

The Thatchers Arms, Mount Bures

Wonderful pub that you must visit.
The young couple that run this free house have only been there just over a year and already they are on the short list for 'local pub of the year' in their area.
Three real ales from local breweries are available and ALL were in ace condition. They also had Meantime Stout available on draught (electric pull as served by the brewery itself) pure nectar.
The food was also very good and they use as many local ingredients as they can. I met the egg supplier in the bar so know that it is fact. Sausage and Mash plus a wonderful pud to finish. Can't get much better than this.
Support the true local pub and visit this one as soon as you can. The true counrty pub is under threat so use them while you still can.
Well done the two of you, keep up the good work.

1 Dec 2007 09:54

The Sandrock, Boundstone

Winners of the Pub Food Innovation of the Year Award 2007.
Keep up the good work in 2008.
Great beer and ace food. Winning combination in my books.

11 Nov 2007 19:57

The Cuckoo Inn, Hamptworth

I was amazed that this pub was not in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, it is now as I and several friends sent in recommendations.
One of the few unspoilt pubs in the area and worth a visit.
A pub as a pub should be. Good beer plus and excellent choice of some unusual ales. Difficult to know what they area as the Landlord seems to chalk up anything on the board and you have to guess what they are!
Ideally you should get a taxi here or arrange to camp nearby, you won't want to leave until you have tried all the beers on offer.
Keep flying the real ale flag. Well done guys.

11 Nov 2007 19:47

The Bull Terrier, Croscombe

It is a cosy warm and friendly local. Lots of talk and good beer. Always a choice of local beers served well. The bar food is very tasty and plenty of it, pub grub not nouvelle cuisine.
Stayed here several times. Comfortable and clean accomodation plus a hearty full english breakfast.
It is also dog friendly pub and there are some wonderful walks nearby..

11 Nov 2007 19:36

The Druids Arms, Stanton Drew

Visited this pub last Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. A group of 15 dowsers, just been visiting Stanton Drew stone circles, entered the pub at lunchtime and hit the poor unsuspecting bar staff with food and drink orders. They coped incredibly well with good humour and ready smiles for us all.
The food was good as was the beer. A pub full of character and full of characters!!

26 Oct 2007 19:50

The Phoenix, Gillingham

Enjoyed the pub. Greeted by two young bar staff who couldn't have been friendlier and made to feel very welcome. Out of choice I wouldn't normally drink Hall and Woodhouse (Badger etc) beer however the Sussex Bitter (nothing like the King and Barnes brew that I was weaned upon) was being sold at 1 a pint!! Couldn't refuse a second one.
The food was very good and filling. Worth a try if you are in the town.

26 Oct 2007 19:43

The Rising Sun, Little Hampden

Top ratings for this little gem. Set at the end of a no through road close to Chequers The Rising Sun is not easily found which frankly is part of it's charm. The food is excellent and most meals, if not all, are prepared from local and fresh ingredients by the owner of the pub Rory Dawson.
I have stayed at the pub several times and each time I go a warm welcome is always received.
The location is ace too, few beers, good food and a walk in the woods afterwards. What more do you need?

26 Oct 2007 19:27

The White Lion, Milford

A very welcoming multi national pub. The people running this pub made a great success of The Red Lion, also in Milford, however the head company went to the wall and the crew jumped ship. Excellent food at good value. There is still a pub atmosphere here as many regular drinker will testify.
