The Old Vault, Thorne

Now closed and used as a shop.

4 Feb 2024 19:06

Old Anchor Inn, Fishlake

Now closed and converted to other use.

4 Feb 2024 19:05

Corner Pin Inn, Doncaster

Sadly now closed and apparently being developed for non=pub use.

4 Feb 2024 19:03

The Beverley Inn, Edenthorpe

Sadly back to just one real ale (Doom Bar) and with little demand the quality is not guaranteed.

4 Feb 2024 18:58

The Lonsdale, Intake

Now converted so no longer a pub.

4 Feb 2024 18:56

The Berkeley Hotel, Scunthorpe

The Berkeley has been closed for some years now, still being maintained by Sam Smiths as it is a listed building.

23 Oct 2023 19:46

The Wig & Pen, Colchester

Now called the Camulodunum.

29 Sep 2023 20:23

The What Bar, Colchester

Now the Queen Street Brewhouse. Large selection of "craft" beers so worth a visit if you like them.

29 Sep 2023 20:22

The Rose and Crown Hotel, Colchester

Now part of a Best Western Hotel. No sign of any public bar so probably residents only.

29 Sep 2023 20:19

Quilters Bar, Colchester

Now appears to be called the Pavilion but closed last week when I looked.

29 Sep 2023 20:18

O'Neill's, Colchester

Now called The Centurion which has to be better than plastic Irish O'Neills.

29 Sep 2023 20:16

North Hill Hotel, Colchester

Looks like residents only if there is still a bar here. Certainly no sign of a public bar.

29 Sep 2023 20:15

Ha Ha Bar & Canteen, Colchester

Now Slug & Lettuce.

29 Sep 2023 20:12

The Faunus & Firkin, Colchester

Now known as After Office Hours (see separate entry for that pub).

29 Sep 2023 20:11

Edwards, Colchester

This is now a Walkabout and if you have been in any Walkabout pub you know what to expect.

29 Sep 2023 20:10

Dragoon, Colchester

Now known as The Ale House (see separate entry for that pub). Well worth a visit for quality real ales.

29 Sep 2023 20:08

O'Neill's, Cleethorpes

Now closed and boarded up.

7 Jul 2023 20:23

Bar Silk, Cleethorpes

Now called the Scratching Post.

7 Jul 2023 20:20

The Victory, Hereford

Worth a visit just to see the bar designed as an old sailing ship. No real ale on my visit and only 2 customers. I would recommend only buying a half as once you've seen the decor there is nothing else to recommend the pub.

11 Sep 2022 16:06

T. J's Bar, Hereford

Now called Bar 62. Only seems to be open at weekends. Definitely a bar for the younger generation as very noisy indeed.

11 Sep 2022 16:03

T. J's Bar, Hereford

Only seems to be open at weekends. Definitely a bar for the younger generation as very noisy indeed.

11 Sep 2022 16:02

The Lichfield Vaults, Hereford

Pleasant comfortable pub with a nice beer garden outside. Four real ales on, all of which in good condition. The ideal place for a Saturday night if you don't like loud music and packed pubs.

11 Sep 2022 16:00

The Kings Fee, Hereford

Pleasant enough Wetherspoons but on Saturday night I saw Something I have never seen before at a Wetherspoons. People queuing outside to get in! The place wasn't particularly busy but only 3 staff and a queue of maybe 30 people waiting to be served, presumably the reason for limiting access.

11 Sep 2022 15:58

Commercial Inn, Hereford

Few customers even on Saturday night but what there was were very noisy. Unimpressive beer choice, Doom Bar or atlantic.

11 Sep 2022 15:52

The Black Lion Inn, Hereford

Friendly pub with good beer. Don't know about the gay bar mentioned earlier, certainly no evidence of it that I noticed but does it really matter?

11 Sep 2022 15:48

The Barrels, Hereford

Excellent pub, several Wye Valley beers on tap, all in good condition. On Saturday night there was a group playing in the beer garden and the place was absolutely packed.

11 Sep 2022 15:45

Bar 28 (Merton Hotel), Hereford

Closed this week when were were in Hereford and looks very run down.

11 Sep 2022 15:42

The Snowdon, Llandudno

I can't understand why this has a rating of 4.8 when all the reviews are very favourable. An excellent choice of beers, all well served. My favourite pub in Llandudno and well worth a 9/10.

24 Jul 2022 16:29

The Palladium, Llandudno

Unfortunately work on the roof means scaffolding obscures the "grandeur" of the conversion. I am usually a fan of Wetherspoons but agreeing with previous comments the tables were left full of plates and empty glasses for far too long.

24 Jul 2022 16:26

The Nevills Pub, Llandudno

No real ale so a low score from me.

24 Jul 2022 16:23

The London Hotel, Llandudno

Now known as the LC. Didn't go in as I had had enough of the kids bars in the area.

24 Jul 2022 16:21

The Kings Head, Llandudno

Very handy for the Tram Station with a quiz on Wednesday (online only so not for me). Greene King beers with a couple of guest ales but none of them were particularly impressive. The best pint of the night was Abbott Ale.

24 Jul 2022 16:19

Fountains, Llandudno

The building is currently being renovated so the place looks to be closed unless you look closely. No real ale and I was the only customer on a Thursday night.

24 Jul 2022 16:16

The Fat Cat, Llandudno

Loud, expensive, and no real ale. A bar for the young lager drinkers.

24 Jul 2022 16:14

The Cottage Loaf, Llandudno

A lively pub when we were in, singer on Friday night was ok. Good choice of beers but not a lot of space inside.

24 Jul 2022 16:13

The Cottage Loaf, Llandudno

A lively pub when we were in, singer on Friday night was ok. Good choice of beers but not a lot of space insdie.

24 Jul 2022 16:12

The Albert, Llandudno

Excellent pub with a great choice of beers. Well worth a visit.

24 Jul 2022 16:09

Flares, Sunderland

The address is the same as for the Londonderry (now the Peacock). I assume it has gone the way most Flares bars should go - closed!

4 May 2022 15:47

The Borough, Sunderland

No real ale last week and no sign that there had been for some time. A bit rough and ready but not too bad.

4 May 2022 15:44

Baroque, Sunderland

Now known as the Establishment. The CAMRA whatpub guide suggests it is a club but no restrictions on entry. No real ale.

4 May 2022 15:43

Tonic, Sunderland

Actually called Ttonic for some reason. I heard it was a gay bar but no sign of that when I went in. No real ale so only had a half.

4 May 2022 15:41

The Londonderry, Sunderland

Now open and known as the Peacock. Large imposing building but very quiet when I went in.

4 May 2022 15:37

The Ivy House, Sunderland

Nearest pub to where we were stopping. A very friendly local with a good range of beers.

4 May 2022 15:34

Dun Cow, Sunderland

Worth a visit just for the magnificent interior but the beer is excellent as well.

4 May 2022 15:32

Rat Race Ale House, Hartlepool

Excellent choice of beers and real quality. Either you like micropubs or you don't. If you do, this is one of the best.

3 May 2022 14:12

King Johns Tavern, Hartlepool

No longer a Wetherspoons but similar style of pub. Decent beer and friendly.

3 May 2022 14:09

Muse Ale and Wine Bar, Wetherby

Excellent pub with good beers. Currently table service only but efficiently done.

3 May 2022 14:06

The Royal Oak Hotel, Skipton

No longer a pub. Has been the Coach House Guest House for some time it appears.

12 Sep 2021 19:28

Red Lion, Skipton

Large pub on the High Street. Very busy at lunchtime, mainly with food. Greene King beers but also 2 others so ok.

12 Sep 2021 19:23

The Railway Inn, Skipton

Now open again, unexceptional pub, I am only posting a review to update the status.

12 Sep 2021 19:21

The Narrow Boat, Skipton

A good choice of beers and a comfortable quiet pub. Worth visiting if only for one.

12 Sep 2021 19:19

Herriots Hotel, Skipton

Upmarket bar of a large hotel but good service, pleasant surroundings and good beer. A bit of a walk from the centre of Skipton but worth the effort.

12 Sep 2021 19:17

The Fleece Inn, Skipton

No real ale and little atmosphere. Nothing to recommend it when there are numerous better pubs within a 5 minute walk.

12 Sep 2021 19:16

The Craven, Skipton

Closed when I passed last week and appears to have been shut for a fair length of time.

12 Sep 2021 19:14

Cock and Bottle, Skipton

Average at best. Went in on quiz night and had to sit on a stool at the bar so as not to take up a table. Fair enough I suppose but not very welcoming.

12 Sep 2021 19:12

The Beer Engine, Skipton

Excellent micropub. I went in for one half and ended up trying all 5 beers that were on. Very friendly and well worth a visit.

12 Sep 2021 19:09

The Albion Inn, Skipton

Went in on Wednesday, not for the quiz but I could hear it 50 yards down the road! Far too loud to drink in comfort and I didn't rate the quiz much anyway as the quiz reader kept giving so many clues it would be difficult to get many wrong.

12 Sep 2021 19:07

The Red Lion, Otley

No real ale at the time of my visit which I find is often the case for Craft Union pubs. Not too bad but there are many better pubs in Otley.

12 Sep 2021 16:27

The Fleece, Otley

Not impressed, no real ale and pretty depressing atmosphere. Not a pub I would visit twice.

12 Sep 2021 16:24

The Black Horse Hotel, Otley

Beautiful ornate interior and the beers by Kirkstall Brewery are excellent. Highly recommended.

12 Sep 2021 16:21

The Yard, Ilkley

Apparently now called the Hub Vibe according to CAMRA Whatpub.

11 Sep 2021 20:17

Ilkley Riverside Hotel, Ilkley

Lovely place for an outside drink in summer. The beer was good and the food looked fine although I was not eating myself.

11 Sep 2021 20:15

The Cow and Calf, Ilkley

Beer was fine and it's worth visiting for the views alone.

11 Sep 2021 20:12

Walkabout, Lichfield

Does what it says on the tin, expensive cold lager and a barn like feeling. Most of the Walkabouts around the country appear to have closed, this cannot be far behind.

21 Aug 2021 19:39

The Shoulder Of Mutton, Lichfield

A long walk from the centre of Lichfield but worth it. Good beer, a nice outside area, and very tidy inside.

21 Aug 2021 19:37

The Scales Inn, Lichfield

Now known as 24 Market Street, a really original name! Ok but nothing special.

21 Aug 2021 19:36

The Saxon Penny, Lichfield

Food led Marstons pub. The only memorable thing was 8 hand pumps on the bar, all of them selling Pedigree!

21 Aug 2021 19:33

The Pig and Truffle, Lichfield

Now just called The Pig. Beers are from Derby Brewery and very good. Pleasant and friendly barmaid who recognised me the day after my first visit when I only had a half. One of the best pubs in Lichfield.

21 Aug 2021 19:30

Malt Bar, Lichfield

Now known as 55 Wade Street. Clean and tidy but nothing exceptional.

21 Aug 2021 19:28

The Horse and Jockey, Lichfield

Friendly pub with an excellent choice of beers.

21 Aug 2021 19:24

The Greyhound, Lichfield

Now closed and apparently set for demolition.

21 Aug 2021 19:23

The Crown, Lichfield

Closed when I walked past this week.

21 Aug 2021 19:18

Tap and Bottles, Southport

If you like micropubs you will like this one. Very quiet at lunchtime but the Rooster's Union Gap was spot on.

2 Oct 2020 23:16

Ship and Anchor, Southport

Closed on 30th September. According to the staff at O'Leary's it is open and closed frequently.

2 Oct 2020 23:14

The Sandgrounder, Southport

I don't know what it is now but the address is certainly not a pub as we stayed quite close when on holiday in Southport.

2 Oct 2020 23:13

The Ocean Plaza, Southport

A Brewers Fayre so what you see is what you get for a chain pub. Pleasant enough.

2 Oct 2020 23:08

O'Neills, Southport

Now called the Monument. Seems ok but nothing special.

2 Oct 2020 23:06

The London, Southport

I believe this pub has now been demolished.

2 Oct 2020 23:04

The Guest House, Southport

Lovely "local" pub, great choice of real ales and doing their best in the present difficulties.

2 Oct 2020 23:00

The Bold Hotel, Southport

Pleasant enough but nothing special.

2 Oct 2020 22:54

Baron's Bar, Southport

Currently closed.

2 Oct 2020 22:52

The Roadhouse, Carlisle

A sort of B & B come pub. No real ale but quite busy.

11 Nov 2019 16:41

Pippins, Carlisle

Now called the Apple Tree, see reviews under that heading.

11 Nov 2019 16:40

Moo Bar, Carlisle

Now called the Fat Gadgie, apparently after the landlord. One of the better real ale pubs if a bit basic.

11 Nov 2019 16:39

The Last Zebra, Carlisle

Not my type of drinking establishment normally but 2 well-kept real ales and a decent atmosphere if a bit quiet. Probably the best of the "cafe bars" I visited.

11 Nov 2019 16:37

The Kings Head Inn, Carlisle

Pleasant traditional pub in a city where cafe bars are prevalent. Nothing special but worth a visit.

11 Nov 2019 16:35

The Howard Arms, Carlisle

Proper traditional pub recently decorated to a very high standard, imposing both in and outside. Never been in before but on a busy Friday night the barman remembered our order from the first pint which was impressive. Well kept beer and overall the best pub I visited in Carlisle.

11 Nov 2019 16:33

The Griffin, Carlisle

Quite liked this pub, grand architecture reflecting its past as a bank and the beer was good.

11 Nov 2019 16:30

The Glass House, Carlisle

Number 1 Devonshire Street is now the Thin White Duke (Fat Gadgie is number 5). Quite a characterful pub and decent beer.

11 Nov 2019 16:28

Eaten by Monsters, Carlisle

Bit of a posy cafe bar but the real ale was good. Handy for people watching through the windows.

11 Nov 2019 16:26

The Cumberland Inn, Carlisle

Pleasant traditional pubs amongst the Botchergate cafe bars. Worth a visit.

11 Nov 2019 16:25

The Crown, Carlisle

Now closed and looks like it has been for some time.

11 Nov 2019 16:24

Cranemakers, Carlisle

A decent walk from the centre, no real ale on now, and not really worth the walk.

11 Nov 2019 16:23

CA1, Carlisle

Appears to now be the Caledonian as the address is 17 Botchergate. OK pub if a bit rough & ready.

11 Nov 2019 16:22

Bar Suede, Carlisle

Now known as the Crescent Bar. ok but nothing special.

11 Nov 2019 16:19

The Apple Tree, Carlisle

Typical Greene King pub with the emphasis on food. A good looking building from the outside.

11 Nov 2019 16:17

Aboard Inn, Appleby in Westmorland

Now closed, apparently permanently.

11 Nov 2019 16:15

The Heavitree, Exmouth

Now reopened. Nothing special but nothing wrong with it either.

5 Oct 2019 20:09

Famous Old Barrel, Exmouth

Currently closed.

5 Oct 2019 20:06

Waterfront Inn, Doncaster

This is actually in West Stockwith which is miles from Doncaster!

20 Jul 2019 21:02

White Bear, Doncaster

Now Flares/Reflex with all the trimmings you would expect from that chain.

20 Jul 2019 20:59

Rockingham Arms, Doncaster

Closed and converted to flats some years ago.

20 Jul 2019 20:58

The Nags Head, Doncaster

Now converted to a shop, the Paris Gate is still open on the other side of the road.

20 Jul 2019 20:57

Horse and Jockey, Doncaster

Now open again.

20 Jul 2019 20:56

The Great Northern, Doncaster

Now back to its old name of the Saracens but still catering for the same trade, i.e. cheap & cheerful.

20 Jul 2019 20:56

The Good Companions, Doncaster

Long since closed.

20 Jul 2019 20:55

Edward's Bar, Doncaster

Now Yates's.

20 Jul 2019 20:54

Cask Corner, Doncaster

Now known as the Rum & Rock.

20 Jul 2019 20:52

The Benbow, Doncaster

Now demolished and awaiting redevelopment.

20 Jul 2019 20:51

Baileys, Doncaster

Now known as Carter's Bar but still a dive.

20 Jul 2019 20:51

The Royal Standard, Sheffield

Certainly gone downhill since previous reviews. Only one hand pump and that was sold out. Barman has a spiky punk haircut, vastly over tattooed customers (and that's the women)! Not impressed at all.

8 Jul 2019 19:13

The Itchy Pig, Sheffield

Lovely micropub with a great range of unusual beers. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, highly recommended.

8 Jul 2019 19:08

Woolpack, Buckingham

Went in 4 times. On the first 3 I would have given this place an 8 marking but unfortunately it spoiled itself on Friday. It is very rare for me to leave a pub without having a drink but I did this time. It was busy at the bar so I was not bothered about a 5 minute wait. However having been next in line to be served and stood at the bar waving a £20 note, the barman left to collect some glasses. The barmaid then walked straight past me and started putting clean glasses away.
Sorry, down from 8 to 2 in one go for very poor customer service.

30 Mar 2019 19:53

White Hart, Buckingham

A hotel, restaurant and pub which is ok for all 3 but nothing more. The beer was fine and food typical of pub chain meals, in this case Greene King. Friday night was lively with a young crowd but otherwise fairly peaceful.

30 Mar 2019 19:47

The Whale, Buckingham

Now trading as the Buckingham Inn after a period as a steakhouse. It would have been better staying shut. £2.75 for half of London Pride (no real ale) is a total rip off even in Buckingham.

30 Mar 2019 19:44

The Three Cups, Buckingham

I have to agree that the customers do not help this place. A local I spoke to in another pub said this was the place to go if you wanted a fight!

30 Mar 2019 19:40

The New Inn, Buckingham

Pleasant enough pub with friendly staff and locals and decent beer.

30 Mar 2019 19:39

Mitre, Buckingham

The only pub in Buckingham in the current CAMRA guide. Excellent choice of ales but having tried 4 of them none were particularly inspiring and it was difficult to tell one from the others. Perhaps I just hit a bad day.

30 Mar 2019 19:38

The Kings Head, Buckingham

Decent beer, the pies were good, one of the better Buckingham pubs.

30 Mar 2019 19:35

The Grand Junction, Buckingham

Now known as 13. Apparently still a music and dance venue but closed Tuesday to Thursday. I was told it was open on Friday but didn't venture in.

30 Mar 2019 19:34

The Beverley Inn, Edenthorpe

Pleased to report that real ale is back and well kept. Not a great choice, mainly Sharps, but £3.10 for an excellent pint of Sea Fury is very reasonable.

10 Mar 2019 19:07

The Hereward, Ely

A decent drink of Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted but £2.50 for a half! Far too much for a bog standard pub.

14 Oct 2018 19:39

The White Horse Inn, Swavesey

Friendly management in a pleasant village inn. Hopefully the locals will visit enough to keep it open.

14 Oct 2018 19:30

Victoria Inn, Huntingdon

Now closed and apparently unlikely to re-open.

14 Oct 2018 17:02

The Three Tuns, Huntingdon

The previous comments seem to be more about Huntingdon than this pub. Probably just as well as it vies with Cromwell's for the accolade as the worst pub in town. No real ale, disinterested staff and tattooed customers. What less could anyone want.

14 Oct 2018 17:02

The Three Tuns, Huntingdon

The previous comments seem to be more about Huntingdon than this pub. Probably just as well as ir vies with Cromwell's for the accolade as the worst pub in town. No real ale, disinterested staff and tattooed customers. What less could anyone want.

14 Oct 2018 17:01

Samuel Pepys, Huntingdon

Not up to the standard of the Falcon for real ales but what is? Four on tap and all very good. Very friendly place and if 12 hand pumps is not your thing the best pub in Huntingdon.

14 Oct 2018 16:56

Old Bridge Hotel, Huntingdon

A little up market but friendly with well kept beers and a good selection. Well worth a visit.

14 Oct 2018 16:54

The George Hotel, Huntingdon

Only Greene King beers but at least they were well kept. Has the feel of a hotel lounge (which is what it is) but welcoming for non-residents.

14 Oct 2018 16:52

The Falcon Tavern, Huntingdon

The low mark must be historic as this is a proper pub as well as being a Mecca for real ale drinkers. Limited choice of drinks for non ale fans but other than that a must visit place.

14 Oct 2018 16:51

Cromwells Cafe Bar, Huntingdon

Now selling Marston's Pedigree but nothing else to recommend this place. One drunken, foul mouthed woman annoying what few customers there were plus 2 men arguing about an ancient card game, with the staff not doing anything about either. One to avoid as virtually all Huntingdon pubs are better.

14 Oct 2018 16:48

The Beverley Inn, Edenthorpe

Despite the pump clips facing forward, unfortunately real ale is often unavailable nowadays and when it is on it is in questionable condition. A great shame as this was the best real ale pub this side of Doncaster at one time.

18 Aug 2018 17:45

The Giant Bellflower, Selby

Nice spacious place for a Wetherspoons. Usual good choice of beers at reasonable prices.

13 Aug 2018 12:13

White Horse and Griffin, Whitby

Was unsure whether this was a pub or just a restaurant but it does cater for drinkers although the concentration is on the food side. Pleasant enough pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord.

13 Aug 2018 12:11

The Bridge Inn, Ruswarp

Reopened on 9th August after various periods of closure just in time for our stay at Ruswarp Hall up the road. The new manager is very friendly and the beers are fine if unexciting. Well supported by locals for the 3 nights we were in, just hope they continue to use the pub and keep it open.

13 Aug 2018 12:07

Waiting Room, Whitby

If you like real ale then it's a brilliant place. I do so it was, but for anyone wanting the usual national chain fare then perhaps not.

13 Aug 2018 12:01

The Magpie Cafe, Whitby

This is not s pub, why is it mentioned here?

13 Aug 2018 11:56

The Big Angel, Whitby

Not much character, a bit like a works canteen. I prefer the Wetherspoons conversions of banks and cinemas. That said, comfortable & cheap.

13 Aug 2018 11:54

The Three Tuns, Thirsk

A bit smaller than the usual Wetherspoons so seemed crowded. OK but there are better pubs in Thirsk.

28 Jul 2018 19:44

Little 3, Thirsk

Best pub in Thirsk for real ales.

28 Jul 2018 19:42

The Darrowby Inn, Thirsk

Now renamed The Red Bear. OK but nothing special.

28 Jul 2018 19:40

The Darrowby Inn, Thirsk

Now renamed The Red Lion. OK but nothing special.

28 Jul 2018 19:40

The Blacksmiths Arms, Thirsk

Closed today, not sure whether this is permanent.

28 Jul 2018 19:39

The Black Lion, Thirsk

Closed, apparently has been for some time.

28 Jul 2018 19:38

The Steamer Inn, Shanklin

Very good for a beach side bar. Ringwood Best was on form.

1 Jul 2018 13:46

Mad Cow, Shanklin

Now No 64 (see comments under Billy Bunter). Looks like the name keeps changing as different people try to make a go of it.

1 Jul 2018 13:45

Billy Bunters, Shanklin

Now called No 64 after a refurbishment. No real ale and probably looking for the younger customers.

1 Jul 2018 13:43

Caulkheads, Sandown

Large pub which seems to aim for families. One real ale on but nothing special. Very quiet.

1 Jul 2018 13:41

The Tap, Sandown

Went in when football was on, very noisy even in the quieter room with very loud swearing from a couple of customers who didn't stop even when asked to by the bar staff. Maybe ok if no footie on.

1 Jul 2018 13:39

Scruffy Jacks, Sandown

Noisy, rough, expensive, no real ale. One visit was enough.

1 Jul 2018 13:37

The Old Comical, Sandown

Basic boozer with nothing to recommend it. Other pubs are far better.

1 Jul 2018 13:36

The Ocean Deck, Sandown

Pleasant sea front bar with decent real ale. Didn't experience anything described by Matt 520 so maybe under new management.

1 Jul 2018 13:35

Flanagans, Sandown

Friendly pub with 2 real ales, very good for a bar next to the beach.

1 Jul 2018 13:32

The Castle, Sandown

The best pub in Sandown by far. Excellent range of real ales, reasonable prices, and very friendly.

1 Jul 2018 13:30

The Crown & Anchor, Eastbourne

Clean, good beers, convenient location. Well worth a visit.

11 Feb 2018 16:44

Victoria Hotel, Eastbourne

A back street pub but well worth the search. Good beer & friendly.

11 Feb 2018 16:39

Venus, Eastbourne

Closed with boards outside last week. May be temporary but looks like a lot of work going on.

11 Feb 2018 16:37

The Nuthouse, Eastbourne

Now known as the Phoenix Bar. No real ale and nothing special about the place.

11 Feb 2018 16:33

The Kings Arms, Eastbourne

Basic pub, no real ale, not impressed.

11 Feb 2018 16:30

The Hartington, Eastbourne

Now called the Hart.

11 Feb 2018 16:29

The Greenhouse, Eastbourne

Apparently from the address now called the Eastbourne Cocktail Club. The name alone stopped me calling in.

11 Feb 2018 16:28

Bourne Inn, Eastbourne

Now called Langleys. No real ale & not impressed.

BN21, Eastbourne

Now the Duke of Devonshire - see separate entry.

11 Feb 2018 16:23

Mullens, Eastbourne

Now called Buskers Bar but never open last week when I passed several times.

11 Feb 2018 16:20

Maxims, Eastbourne

No real ale and clearly designed for the younger audience. Not therefore to my taste.

11 Feb 2018 16:19

The Marine, Eastbourne

Was intending to go in last week but closing at 2.30 p.m. When I did go the following evening the London Pride was undrinkable. May be a one off but I can only comment on what I found.

11 Feb 2018 16:18

Hogshead, Eastbourne

Now a Wetherspoons called the London & County - see separate entry.

11 Feb 2018 16:15

The Earl Of Burlington, Eastbourne

Now called the Cornfield Garage. Typical Wetherspoons, either good or bad depending on your view of the chain.

11 Feb 2018 16:10

The Crab and Ale House, Truro

Now just known as the White Hart. Pleasant enough but nothing special.

17 Jul 2017 15:39

The Western Hotel/Kettle and Wick, St Ives

There seems to be some sort of music every night. Went in last Thursday and there were 5 musicians who all seemed to be playing different tunes. 3 of them sang and none of them was even basic Karioke standard. OK if you like that sort of thing but not for me.

16 Jul 2017 18:50

Three Ferrets, St Ives

Not the place for a golf club conversation! Yes it is rough and ready but a pleasant pint of London Pride at a reasonable £3.00. Basically it is a back street working class boozer and it does what it says on the tin.

16 Jul 2017 18:48

The Sloop Inn, St Ives

No space outside on a sunny day so went inside to find tables aplenty so don't be put off if it seems busy. Good pint of Dartmoor Jail Ale.

16 Jul 2017 18:45

Pedn-Olva Hotel, St Ives

The beer was fine and the views alone make it worth a visit.

16 Jul 2017 18:44

Hub, St Ives

This is not a pub, its a restaurant. There is a "please wait here to be seated" notice at the entrance and everyone seemed to be eating.

16 Jul 2017 18:42

Beach Cafe Bar, St Ives

I don't really see this as a pub, more a food place. They only serve bottled beer at extortionate prices (£3.95 for a small bottle) and table service is the norm. If you are a pub person avoid, if you are looking to impress a holiday romance they maybe.

16 Jul 2017 18:40

The Bear, Bedford

Now back to being The Bear and selling real ales. Empty when I visited on Thursday lunchtime but couldn't see any reason why, the beer was fine.

16 Apr 2017 15:16

Three Cups, Bedford

A bit out of town but well worth the walk, very friendly & knowledgeable manageress.

16 Apr 2017 13:52

O'Neills, St Albans

Seems to be trying to copy Wetherspoons style and failing miserably. Hardly anyone eating or drinking on Wednesday teatime, average beer at best and less than average food.

16 Apr 2017 13:29

Clarion Collection Hotel, St Albans

May be open to the public but don't expect to see anyone but guests. Only 3 draught products, all keg, and not cheap. The hotel is a good place to stay though.

15 Apr 2017 20:47

Blue Anchor, St Albans

Sign still up but still closed so no developments yet.

15 Apr 2017 20:44

The Red Lion, Reading

Now closed.

28 Jan 2017 14:26

The Pheasant, Reading

Looked good from the outside but tattooed bar staff and loud swearing from the customers mean I wouldn't go in twice. No real ale.

28 Jan 2017 14:25

The Monks Retreat, Reading

No longer a Wetherspoons, operated by Stonegate Pub Co. Nothing much has changed but if anything a reduced menu and beer choice. The Hope Tap is better.

28 Jan 2017 14:23

Great Expectations, Reading

Excellent pint from the local brewery, well worth a visit.

28 Jan 2017 14:19

The Bugle, Reading

Traditional pub but no real ale, loud industrial language and no sign of intelligent life among the customers. There are far better pubs in Reading.

28 Jan 2017 14:17

The Alehouse, Reading

Friendly pub, superb choice of real ales, a must for any real ale fans
