The Somerstown Coffee House, Euston

Not impressed - arrived on a busy Friday night and had a pint of Wells IPA which was pretty tasteless. Seemed I was at the end of barrel as this was soon taken off and despite four pumps being available no proper beer was available for the rest of the evening. Not much else on offer either.

The Ypres Castle Inn, Rye

Only thing going for this pub is the outside space. Turned up here on bank holiday Monday early evening with a group of walkers - all wanting to spend money on drinks. Made to feel as if we were an imposition on the staff (landlord said in front of us 'they'll all want to pay separately' in an annoyed tone). Then we were told the pub was closing at 7 so we had to leave. Went to the excellent Queen's Head which is clearly the best pub in town.

The Queens Head, Rye

New management is excellent here - enthusiastic about real ales and made us feel very welcome after a coastal walk from Hastings (having been made less than welcome at the Ypres Castle). Could not have been more helpful. A good choice of ale and cider on offer. Will definitely return when in the area.

The William IV, Albury

A lovely pub inside and a good pint of Shere Drop was to be had, but as others have said, is unfortunately let down by the regulars who gather around the bar. Called in here with a group of walkers and as we were leaving the comment from one was 'goodbye - don't come again'. Don't think it was meant in jest.

The Brewers Arms, Lewes

Excellent choice of beers on here, the Harvey's Old Ale was a good choice. Came here after walk on the Downs with largeish group of people and were made to feel welcome with friendly service. Will definitely be back when next in Lewes.

The Half Moon Inn, Plumpton

Turned up here with a group of 40 walkers off the Downs. Speedy service and we were made to feel very welcome. Cosy interior with a fire too - will definitely be back when next in the area.

The Feathers, Merstham

Slightly quirky interior but very spacious - main draw of coming here was the Addlestone's cider they serve, although this seemed rather flat on second visit just before Christmas and quite a few of their normal good range of ales weren't available. Food good here too. Good place to spend an evening.

The Lamb Inn, Hindon

Called in here on drive down to West Country last week. Lovely interior, but barmaid seemed rather clueless - took ages to get served and order food, although was fairly speedy in delivery.

The Crown, Old Oxted

Spent the evening here after a long walk with group of friends - very cosy with a great atmosphere and fantastic beers on offer. Food good as well. Had Black Eagle from local Westerham brewery which went down very well. Staff very freindly, a great pub.
