The Royal Standard, Colliers Wood

Sunday is Nipple night. What a treat. I used to go to the Griffin in Clerkenwell to see some top grade snatch, but now I find my requirements are fullfilled in sunny Colliers wood.

Tip: Say your hands have stopped working and let the girls behind the bar 'fumble for your change'. I'm thinking of cutting a hole in my pocket.

The Royal Standard, Colliers Wood

Went to last nights 'Red-Snapper' theme evening at the Royal Standard and feel I have cause for complaint.

If at least two of the bar staff have completely shaven 'mutts' then there is no red and just snapper. Perhaps the evenings theme name needs re-thinking or perhaps some Scottish merkins are in order just for Tuesdays? I would be happy to supply them and look after them during the rest of the week.

Tip: the salt'n'vinegar crisps are on the lowest shelf right at the back. This requires the greatest effort to reach by the barstaff and thereby provides the most 'rewarding' of sights. I can't possibly eat the amount of crisps I have been buying, so I will be leaving a pile on the tressle tables outside at closing time. These will be available on a help yourself first come first serve basis.

GJ's, Colliers Wood

Came here on Bank Holiday Monday with my girlfriend to watch the football after the Colliers Tup had refused to show it (after changing their minds). I found their positive and laid back friendly manner most agreeable. The pub looks in serious need of a re-furb but appears to be getting one as they had work-men out the back and the food was off. About a dozen people came in asking for food so they must be doing something right. I am looking forward to going in to watch a game once the work is finished. A definite case of watch this space.

The Microbar, Battersea

Went for the first time last night and was very impressed with the friendly staff who patiently waited for me to pick my chin off the floor and collect myself as I tried to take in the HUGE number of beers. There is something for everyone here and with that variety and friendly welcome I will definitely return. The clientelle were friendly too, obviously very happy to drink in such a well-run establishment.

The Leather Bottle, Earlsfield

I like this pub. I tend to avoid it during the 'baby-hell' of Sat/Sun afternoon. I go for a good pint on a Mon-Thurs after work when it is not too busy. Very cosy with it's real fires in winter and a nice garden for long summer nights. The small bar can make getting a drink thirsty work at other times.

JJ Moons, Tooting

I walk past this pub on when heading into the centre of Tooting and walk past it again on my way home. In fact, after going in for a quick one last summer I'll continue walking past it until I'm 70 years old and waiting to die. That way I'll have something in common with all the regulars.

The Castle, Tooting Broadway

I like this pub. Fairly spacious and usually quite clean, has friendly staff and clientelle. The Sunday carvery is good - if a little pricey. I like the busy carpet and upholstery, reminds me of pubs when I was younger and I love the cosy real fires. Good beer too, if you're a youngs fan. Proper pub.

The Woolpack, Yeadon

Was driving through Leeds and found this "Gem" of a pub. The range of beers was good and the Sunday lunch was great. The bar staff and the locals were friendly even though Leeds were losing on the 2 screens they had! A real pub with flagstone flooring and great atmosphere. I will return.

Hideaway, South Wimbledon

Had driven past this place so many times before finally deciding to give it a try 6 months back. Was very glad I popped in. There's a very relaxed atmosphere, it's comfortable and they have a superb range of beers. I liked the place a lot but only stopped for one as I was driving. Decided to go back for a Sunday lunch and my appreciation of the Hideaway bar went up another notch as the food was great. You can tell that the owners are prepared to go that little bit further with effort and quality. You can pay the same for a Sunday lunch in many of the areas other pubs and bars, but here you get real value. Just been back there today and it is still great. Try it.

The Falcon, Clapham Junction

An old favourite of a pub. very convenient to slip into after a journey into Clapham Junction train station, also a good starting point for a swift one before your journey. A great all-rounder of a Pub for the weary train traveller. Boasts the longest bar, good beer and pleasant staff and If Gabby and Darsh were still there I'd never leave.

The Trafalgar Arms, Tooting

How the mighty have fallen. Dark. Not Cheap or well maintained. Take a towel if you want to dry your hands after using the Gents, the hand-dryer has not worked for 6 months. The high point of my last visit was playing with a candle, when it went out I left depressed. A pub in serious need of revitalisation.

The Manor Bar & Grill, Tooting

This pub seems to get better day by day. It has a very relaxed atmosphere and the bar staff are friendly. It is not the old fashioned boozer it used to be but more of a modern bar. All the usual drinks are available and my request to start stocking a low-carb beer was taken seriously. The menu is varied and the food appetising. Sometimes the music can be a bit loud, but that is probably me getting old! A good pub that must be approaching the 'best bar in Tooting' award.
