Four Horseshoes, Thornham Magna

Fantastic pub. Food is superb, especially the carvery Sat/Sun lunchtime. The beer is always in tip top condition. Normal Green King choices even though it's a Free House. Old Speckled Hen is very good when it's on, as is the Abbot. You'd be well advised to book a table if thinking of eating on a weekend evening.

The Black Horse, Thorndon

Very friendly when we went in recently. A bit chilly though. Local Aspalls cider well worth a try!

The Bucks Head, Thwaite

I've been in there a few times now and have never seen more than a couple of people in there. Shame really - the place seems friendly enough and it's right on the A140, I can't understand why it doesn't get busier.

The Rising Sun, Slough

Use this pub at lunchtimes. Definitely the best for office types as the place is not full of winos like the other pubs in Slough town. Try the Cajun chicken wraps - awesome. Beer generally in excellent condition - normally London pride and another.

Lloyds No 1, Slough

Renamed Wernham Hoggs (a la "The Office"). Good name, but the pub/food/beer is exactly the same. You can pretty reliably get a good pint of Abbot in there - if you can get served in a reasonable timeframe.

The Wine Bar, Twickenham

Opens Friday (16/12/05) as "The Wine Bar" as I understand it. I'm lucky enough to be going to the opening night, so a further review will follow.

Lloyds No 1, Slough

The pub's not called Lloyds No 1 anymore - there is currently a competition underway to choose a new name. Tend to go in at lunchtimes. They have a good selection of beers on the counter, although often some are unavailable (including cider and lagers strangely). I find the place a bit soulless actually and the service can be infuriatingly slow because the cheaper prices are reflected by the number of barstaff.
