The Chelsea Potter, Chelsea

My perennial favourite pub in Chelsea because of its perfect balance of Kings Road vibe and traditional English pub decor and drinks menu. Service is brisk, professional and unpretentious from the mainly Australian bar staff.

I like it. So, I suspect, will you.

The Botanic Inn, Belfast

I went into this pub tonight, a Friday night. There was a female DJ. She was shit. Clueless. Virtually everybody left the pub during her stint. Notice to the owner: don't employ this shit DJ any more. She empties your pub!

I mean, Friday night in Belfast - and a pub that should be heaving is empty! FFS!

The Bridge House, Belfast

I'm told that this is one of only two Wetherspoons bars in Northern Ireland. Well, as a Londoner who's visited most 'spoons in London over the past twenty years, I have to say the Bridge House in Belfast puts all the rest to shame.

It's brilliantly run and has a really 'safe' atmosphere inside its huge environs - it's even got an upstairs area for special occasions.

Or maybe it's because Belfast people are just more civilised than us Londoners!

Benedicts of Belfast, Belfast

A large, well appointed bar close to the centre of Belfast, Benedicts appears very well run. Prices are not cheap but it's a hotel bar! As a regular visitor from London, I like the huge circular central bar with myriad seating areas all the way round. Service is prompt, professional and friendly.

Benedicts has an unobtrusive soundtrack playing in the background most of the time. In the evenings the sound volume is turned up to make Benedicts a bar with a buzz. It has excellent live DJs on Friday and Saturday nights, who blast out current pop and dance tracks until 1 am. The joint really does rock.

As an occasional visitor, I haven't found any of the regulars give me any hassle. There are no posers here. It's an unpretentious working class bar with a great formula for success, as described above. It works. I like it.

The Jolly Anglers, Wood Green

The DJ who plays the music in the Jolly Anglers has posted three identical reviews here, all saying how good she is! She isn't! Nobody dances on the dancefloor when DJ Dee is playing at the Jolly Anglers because she plays the same BORING sounds all night! As another reviewer called Ellie points out in her review:
'' We want more rock!!!!''

Or at least some tracks some of us recognise...

The Nelson, Wood Green

There's no reason why The Nelson can't be much more successful. It's in an ideal location just a short walk from Wood Green tube station. All it needs is for its management and staff to serve, not themselves, but their customers.

The reason you don't see anyone in here unless there's a big football match on is because the management and staff can't be bothered to engage customers. Period. Once they've got your money they uniformly swing away - even when there's no one else to serve. How to win customers's loyalty and bring them back... Not.

Sad.

The Park Inn, Wood Green

Decent place. You always get served quickly and in a friendly manner. An Irish pub that is very well managed.

BRB at The Gate, Alexandra Park

The bar staff here are so badly managed that each one of them charges a completely different price for the same drink - it happened to me when I went back in there on Saturday night after an absence of more than a year!

There was barely anybody in there except for one dodgy looking group of regulars who kept staring at me (I'm perfectly respectable looking) and a few bored couples.

Another limp-along enterprise in North London.

Spouter's Corner, Wood Green

Wetherspoons management is crap management - because Wetherspoons recruitment and training is crap recruitment and training. The Wetherspoons pub at Wood Green is perfect proof of all of this.

What a truly depressing place!
