The Troqueer Arms, Dumfries

Go to this pub if you fancy hearing a tall story or two, the barman is unbelievable..literally! I've heard some real whoppers in there in my time from Walter Mitty himself.

The Spread Eagle, Dumfries

No frills pub with average beer, no live beers. Friendly enough and even more friendly if you like to gamble on the horses, play poker or bet on anything else that moves...

The White Hart Hotel, Dumfries

I don't go in there any more as I'm too old and don't do drugs or smoke weed.

Ye Olde Friars Vaults, Dumfries

Had the pleasure of visiting this pub recently, only just escaped before I was eaten alive by a load of pissed old bags who had been drinking meths or something, I think they serve it on tap in there.

Slipstream, Dumfries

Zero pub full of zero people with zero atmosphere. Fancy a more entertaining evening, go buy some cans from the off license and drink them outside the public bogs on the Whitesands.

The Victoria Inn, Dumfries

Go in there at your peril.....be warned!

The Stag, Dumfries

This pub has been taken over recently by a couple of idiots who wouldn't know how to run a sweetie shop never mind a pub. They have succeeded in driving away all of the old regulars which is a very commendable achievement in such a short space of time.

Robert The Bruce, Dumfries

Possibly the worst Wetherspoons pub ever which is a shame as it used to be really good until the current manager took over. This place should be called the "Available Soon Arms" as you can bet your life that when you go in there a number of the beers will have "availablle soon" notices on them. I went in there recently and there was a grand total of two very poor beers with all the others, you guessed it - available soon! This pub even runs out of its regular ales such as Deuchars IPA which, quite frankly is bad management, a pub should not run out of its regular beers. The standard of the beer is also absolutely terrible, I was served a pint of cloudy "muck" yesterday and took it back to the bar to change it for another, equally poor beer. The ironic thing is that the girl who served me reported to her supervisor that there was obviously a problem with the beer yet nothing was done about it and they continued to serve it. I hope CAMRA and Cask Marque hear about this place as it has literally gone to the dogs, which is a shame.

The Salutation Inn, Dumfries

Not a bad pub. Has its regulars, decent beer and reasonably friendly.

The Tam O'Shanter, Dumfries

The landlord of this pub has recently appointed a bar manager...big mistake... The guy is not a popular choice with a lot of the regulars, has no real idea about how to run a pub, can be quite rude, and lacks any form of attentiveness. On two occasions he has started to pour me a pint of real ale, let it rest and gone to serve somebody else and I have had to remind him that I was still waiting for my pint. He also seems obsessed with what people are talking about, a bit paranoid I think. Fair do, not having a dig at the guy but a re-think is called for in my opinion.

The Normandy, Dumfries

Nice friendly bar with good selection of beers and cheerful bar staff. Bit off the beaten track though unless you live in the Troqueer area of Dumfries.

The Lyver, Dumfries

Don't go into this pub if you weigh more than 15 stone otherwise you'll go through the floor. Seriously, good hippy pub with excellent juke box, not bad beers and generally friendly bar staff. Owner has a bit of an attitude though, sometimes wonder which planet he's on. Whole place could probably do with some tlc although being careful to retain the character.

Greenes, Dumfries

Visited this pub recently to watch the footie on TV. Pub wasn't particularly busy yet the three bar staff on duty that night must have forgotten they had customers in the lounge bar as they rarely made themselves available choosing instead to stand at the front bar and chat to their friends and each other. I got sick of waiting for a refill and after waiting what must have been 10 minutes I decided I would go to the Ship instead. Don't often get to Greens but won't be back after this experience.

The Tam O'Shanter, Dumfries

Good pub but made a big mistake by only serving Broughton ales (Broughton pub I suppose). Nice friendly bar staff including a bizarre girl who just sings all of the time!! A few oddball characters drink in there but generally friendly. This pub features an art gallery in the back room.

The New Bazaar, Dumfries

Not a bad pub with decent beer. Not the most welcoming place unless you are known to the clientel and the bar staff.

The Hole I' The Wa', Dumfries

Noisy, expensive, crap beer, although you do get a laugh at the Karaoke and dancing. Like the bar out of Star Wars.

24 Oct 2008 22:22

The Globe Inn, Dumfries

Basic no frills pub, decent pint, gets fairly busy when Queens are at home. Sometimes get a few oddballs in there.

The Globe Inn, Dumfries

This place has died a death! Used to be heaving a few years ago but not any more. The owner insists that this is purely down to the smoking ban but its probably more to do with the price of the beer. Decent pint and decent food. Jane is really nic e but some of the other bar staff could do with a personality transplant. Very important pub from a "Burns" perspective.

The Fleshers Arms, Dumfries

Good pub with good music (no juke box but compilation CD's), Marion is great and always full of chat but other girls behind the bar don't smile much. Anti football, even when the games are on terrestrial channels this pub never shows them.

The Douglas Arms, Dumfries

Went into this pub last weekend and was growled at by the big bird behind the bar. Not very friendly, beer was average, give it a miss.

Dickie's, Dumfries

Not a bad pub, decent pint, sports channels. Stan's a good bloke.

The Coach and Horses, Dumfries

Good friendly pub with a decent pint (I'm a lager drinker so can't comment on the real ales). John is a great guy who always has time for a chat. I've seen some good bands in there also. A vast improvement on what this pub used to be like.

The Cavens Arms, Dumfries

Excellent pub/restaurant. Good selection of real ales, ciders and lagers. Good pub food with excellent service. Gary is a great guy, he runs a tight ship and employs really friendly staff.

The Barrel, Dumfries

Good wee pub, much better since the smoking ban came in. Good pint, great place to watch sport as there are 3 plasma screens showing horse racing and all of the SPL & Premier League games. Very friendly staff (John & Donna).
