The Sportsman, Goddard Green

Nice cosy country pub. Think it may be more food orientated than beer though. When I went here recently the Harveys and London Pride were both off as was the Hophead after I had tried my vinegary pint, leaving only the Directors which was fine.

The Seven Stars, Chancery Lane

Very busy when I visited here on Friday 6pm. Dark Star Hophead and T.T Landlord both on offer, I chose the Hophead which was perfect.

Thought there was snacks laid out on the bar, realised that it was actually cat food, the bowl of water should have been a giveaway, the cat was nowhere to be seen though.

Nice little pub, woth visiting at a quieter time of day I should imagine.

The Potters, Burgess Hill

They've smartened this place up. Was overjoyed to find Harveys, Deuchers and Summer lightning all available, the Deuchers was great. Service was also good and there is a seperate pool room. Still a bit too close to BH town centre for comfort but there's nothing they can do about that. On the way up.

The Elephant and Castle, Lewes

Good pub. Beers always on form, usually Deuchers, Harveys and Hobgoblin. Youngish crowd, bit of a student hang out but no problems.

The Gardeners Arms, Lewes

Superb pub. That honey porter I had on Friday night was surely one of the finest taste sensations I have ever experienced. I can't remember who brews it though?

The John Harvey Tavern, Lewes

Had a few perfect pints of Harveys Old in here on Friday afternoon to wash down my very tasty bangers and mash.
A great little place with a good atmosphere and good service.

The Shaston Arms, Soho

I am a big fan of Badgers Beers and so enjoyed my visit here on Saturday. Only two real ales on offer, Tanglefoot and First Gold. I went for First Gold which I have only ever had in bottle before and it was one of the nicest pints I have sampled in a long while.
Found the service to be good. Everything good really.

The Market Porter, Borough

Yes I do review this place every time I go here. But how can you not. Got here at 12.00pm Sunday intending to have a couple and then move on. Four and a half hours, 5 pints and 15 games of Shithead later we were still here.
The beer was absolute quality, amazing considering the selection on offer. Pale Gold from the Ossett Brewery and Black Sheep were my personal picks of the day.
My chilli con carne was very nice indeed and good value at 5.95.
Even the music was good, we went through Queen, Oasis and Blues Brothers during our stint.
We love it, we love it, we love it, love it, love it...

The Prince Of Wales, Kilburn

Hard to say too much about my visit as it was a super-quick 'need to take a piss before I get on the tube' type effort. My friend ordered us a shot of J.D each, didn't even look to see what beer was available I'm ashamed to admit.
All I can say is it is very much a locals pub and and you get that feeling upon entering. The landlady was nice and polite though.
...And then I was off...

The Salt House, St John's Wood

As others have said it's overpriced. G.K Abott Ale was the best beer on offer. My non-beer drinking friend was charged 6 for a large wine.
On the plus side the chips were good!

The John Snow, Soho

Absolutely heaving round one side of the bar on Saturday night, yes strangely empty round the other side. Was served a decent pint of S.S bitter in a PLASTIC glass, what's that all about.
Felt a bit sorry for the overworked bar staff.
This was okay for a quick (cheap) stop but wouldn't stay here for more than one.

30 Oct 2006 20:23

The White Hart, Crawley

This place was busy last night but I still got served very quickly each time I went to the bar, once I'd made it past the line of locals who stand at the bar and make no effort whatsoever to let you through.
Quality Harveys beers. I had 3 pints of Hadlow which were very good and two pints of Olympia which were superb. Best and Harvest were also available.
Harveys very rarely disappoint and this place is no exception. It's just a shame that it's in Crawley.

The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell

Ladnewton - When you said you were here from 2020 until 2320 were you talking in terms of years? That's a long session!...good taste in pubs AND a time machine, a perfect combination!

Great beers, great pub.

15 Sep 2006 15:42

The Kings Arms, Elham

Lovely little friendly village pub. Harveys was quality. Food also. There is a small bar at the front and a larger area at the back to eat in.
This is just how a pub should be.

10 Sep 2006 17:19

The Hassocks Hotel, Hassocks

Popped in for a quick half whilst waiting for the train. Not the greatest Harveys I've ever tasted, reasonably priced though at 1.20. Spitfire was also on offer. The pub seems okay generally and the games area is cool if you like that sort of thing.

6 Sep 2006 16:56

The Old Cage, Lingfield

A nice old traditional, friendly pub. Four real ales on offer - G.K IPA, Harveys, Youngs and Cage Jailors Ale which I'm assuming, because of the 'Cage' connection is tied to the pub in some way? Very nice though.
Great roast lamb dinner, very generous servings of potatoes/parsnips. Good menu and specials board all at decent prices (6.50 - 7.50 mostly).
This pub gets busy on race days which is why I was there. Deserves to be busy all the time. Maybe it is, I don't know.

4 Sep 2006 11:56

The White Horse, Lindfield

I was very impressed on my first visit to this pub since the takeover. My wife and I enjoyed a very tasty afternoon Thai lunch at a good price. The Harveys was in good condition and London Pride also on offer. This pub has been given a much needed refurb and now has a more modern look.
With the Stand Up Inn just up the road things are looking up for the Lindfield drinking scene.

The Watermill Inn, Burgess Hill

Nice pub, beers always good. The guest was WJ King Red River Ale and I was apparently the first to try it. The landlady was very friendly and obviously cares about her customers.
Yes it's a locals pub but a frienly locals and the best pub in Burgess Hill easily. Also in The Good Beer Guide and on the Sussex Ale Trail.
Good quiz on Thursday evenings.

21 Aug 2006 11:42

The Lord Nelson, Brighton

Great pub. Had a quality pint of Harveys Armada Ale. Good mixture of people in here. Always busy but always manage to find a seat. Only 2 minutes from The Station, well worth a visit if coming to Brighton.

14 Aug 2006 15:05

The Evening Star, Brighton

Paid a brief visit on Thursday afternoon. The bar staff always make non-regulars feel welcome, although I have to say it won't be long before I can't refer to myself as a non-regular anymore. Enjoyed two marvellous Dark Star pints, one Hophead and one Spiced Wheat. What a way to spend an afternoon. Love this place.

14 Aug 2006 15:02

The Porterhouse, Covent Garden

Maybe Saturday evening isn't the best time to visit this pub. Had to turn out the contents of my bag before I entered (presents as I was trying to celebrate my 30th birthday), which wasn't a good start. The beer is good, not exceptional but good. By 9.00pm felt like sardines, the place was heaving and then a band came on at around 9.00pm and from that point on we had to shout just to speak to one another, or to order a drink. Even moved up a level away from the band but my hearing had been ruined by now and could only hear a disturbing ringing noise. I'll give it another go in the afternoon some time.

14 Aug 2006 14:56

The Princess Louise, Holborn

As so here was my first visit to a Sam Smiths pub. An impressive looking place. Beer obviously cheap. Had a pint of the bitter and a pint of stout. Good stuff. I'd recommend this pub it you're into pub architecture or cheap beer(who isn't). Other than that it's a bit dark and dreary and lacking in atmosphere, but then it was only a Saturday afternoon.

14 Aug 2006 14:48

The Salisbury, Leicester Square

Yes it is very busy. Full of theatre crowds if I am not mistaken on Saturday evening. Managed to find a seat however and enjoyed a fine pint of Deuchers IPA. Another one in this area that I'll be returning to.

14 Aug 2006 14:38

The Harp, Covent Garden

What a great little pub. Friendly service and good quality beer. Busy but not too busy on Saturday late afternoon and found a seat easily, I honestly could have sat here for hours drinking T.T Landlord and eating those tasty sausages if it wasn't for the fact that I had other venues to visit. Will definitely return.

14 Aug 2006 14:34

The Elephant and Castle, Lewes

Used to frequent this place as a lager drinking teenager (9-10 yrs ago). Was then somewhat surprised to find it so highly recommended by CAMRA. Paid a nostalgic visit on a Friday night and although the beer was good quality (Deuchers IPA amongst others), found the clientel to be exactlty as I remembered although a lot less enjoyable as I used to find and very noisy. A bit of a student haunt. Maybe I'm just getting old.

10 Jul 2006 21:45

The Brewers Arms, Lewes

Seems like a proper real ale pub. The barman was very chatty and the pint he recommended was quality, not that I can remember what it was. One of Lewes's better pubs, although there are many.

10 Jul 2006 21:38

The Black Horse Inn, Lewes

I've been reliably informed that this pub is nowhere near as good as it used to be, but then it has been taken over by Greene King. I did enjoy a nice pint of the special world cup brewed beer though and found the staff very friendly. Much better pubs in Lewes though

10 Jul 2006 21:36

The Market Porter, Borough

Every time I leave this pub I can never remember exactly what it was I was drinking. I think it was called Three Men but by what brewery I cannot say. Quality beer though as always.

There's such a great atmosphere in this place, I love the mixture of clientel, especially after spending an afternoon in the suit infested city. Managed to find a seat at rush hour which is unusual and perhaps my only critisism although it's not really a critisism is it, I'm just clutching at straws? 9/10

10 Jul 2006 21:30

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

Been looking forward to my fist visit to this pub since reading the reviews and it didn't disappoint. Didn't venture far enough to explore the whole pub, I just went in the first door I got to and sat in a small bar with two gentlemen in suits smoking cigars. Gorgeous pint of Deuchers IPA, could have easily stayed for another one or two but had plans to visit other establishments. Will definitely return

10 Jul 2006 21:24

The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell

My first visit to this pub was very enjoyable. Went at about 3.00pm in the afternoon and was served a very nice pint of St Peter's Golden Ale. This pub has a lot of character, it is however a city pub so on afternoons expect suits galore

10 Jul 2006 21:11

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

Paid a visit to this pub on the strength of recent reviews. The nearer I got to the pub the more I felt I must have taken a wrong turning, it's not in the nicest of areas, but upon entering and taking a first glance at the bar, it all became a apparent. A delightful selction af real ales. Eight to choose from in all and I must say I let myself down in going for the one I knew I could trust; Deuchers IPA which it has to be said was top notch and cheap at only 2.30 a pint.
Don't be put off by first impressions; The slightly rough looking group of locals didn't pay me second glance, were more interested in giving some friendly abuse to the landlady, this is well worth a visit.

10 Jul 2006 21:04

The Market Porter, Borough

Had to try this pub after reading the great reviews and wasn't disappointed. A great pub with a great atmosphere and the bar is like a mini beer festival. On Saturday afternoon had two excellent pints of Harveys porter and found the bar service to be excellent.
Returned here for opening on Sunday. The barman was helful and recommended a beer who's name I unfortunately can't remember (sounded like Santa, can anyone help). Was given a sample to taste which you don't often see and stayed for four pints and lunch which was as good quality as the beer and reasonable price too. (we were the ones playing cards!). I live in Sussex but I shall definitely be coming here regularly from now on. 9/10

3 Apr 2006 13:20

The West Quay, Brighton

Left this pub on Sunday convinced I had just spent the last hour in a Wetherspoon's pub. Did it used to be one?, it has all the hallmarks...cheap beer, real ale, cheap food, crap service. Several King's beers on offer, I enjoyed two very nice pints of West Quay ale. I didn't eat here but I heard the barman/girl (couldn't tell) inform someone that there was a 45 minute wait for food. The place was pretty heaving possibly due to the crap weather and there was only one person serving behind the bar. I would possibly return to this pub for the beer but nothing else.

28 Mar 2006 12:51

The Bell, Cannon Street

According to CAMRA's 'London Pub Walks' this pub is closed Saturday and Sunday. Is this true?

24 Mar 2006 19:29

The Great Eastern, Brighton

Great pub with a great atmosphere. Practically lived here in 2001-2003. Real ales always taste great, usually have Youngs, Harveys. Used to have Waggledance which is definitely one of my favourite beers. Meet some interesting characters in here, A real variety of people. Service always good. Love it!

22 Mar 2006 16:42

The King and Queen, Brighton

Massive great pub with one of the longest bars you'll see. Great for pool with 3 tables (1 down, 2 up). Usually a couple of ales, Harveys not bad in here but had better.
Unfortunately my last visit to this pub was ruined by 20 or so abusive Coventry fans which resulted in riot police coming in. Wouldn't recommend this pub if you're not a sports fan.

21 Mar 2006 14:19

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

Great little pub with excellent atmosphere if a little smokey. Good beers (I could drink Gales Festival all night). Haven't eaten here but have nosed in on other people's plates and the food looks very tasty. Hopefully this pub will stay as it is with the takeover.

20 Mar 2006 18:08

The Font and Firkin, Brighton

Jockstrap is spot on (don't say that very often). 'Discovered' this pub back in May 1995, not long after it opened, at the tender age of 18. Literally lived here for the next 4 or 5 years and then spent the next 5 years witnessing it's gradual demise. Everyting that was great about this pub is gone - The great Firkin ales (now no real ales at all), the barrel tables, the...oh I can't be bothered, I'M SO ANNOYED!!! Only good point, they've still got the big screen so might be in here in the summer singing 'WHO THE FIRKIN HELL ARE YOU???...'

20 Mar 2006 17:56

Jacobs Post, Burgess Hill

My first visit to this pub in several years was very disappointing. Only one real ale on offer (Youngs) which was okay. My wife's roast chicken was cold. Sent it back only to receive the same plate of food back warmed up. Deep fried roast potatoes??? Mixed grill dripping in grease. Food very greasy generally. Wouldn't recommend eating here.

20 Mar 2006 17:32

The Stand Up Inn, Lindfield

The best pub in the area now that Dark Star have taken over. As The Linden Tree it was already a great beer lover's pub but very cramped. Now refurbished and twice the size. I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit. Very friendly service, two excellent pints of Hophead and a rather tasty sausage sandwich. Superb!
