Ross's Arms, Astley

Forget it. This pub has now been run down to a terrible state. Food is not being served and the heating isn't switched on and it's filthy. They close early due to lack of support. They don't open many nights and they are even closed on a Sunday afternoon. They even had the nerve to increase what is already an over priced pint from 2.60 - 2.70 even though they must be trying to attract customers.

The Jolly Crofters, Horwich

I have just had the misfortune to visit the Jolly Crofters at Horwich. It's a pub I have been to in the past and never had a bad meal. How things have changed.

We arrived at 1.50pm today (10/10) and ordered 2 starters at 13.56pm, according to the slip. The starter arrived at 2.25pm and was of very poor quality and small portions. This wasn't loooking good.

At 2.51pm the waitress arrived at our table, not with any food, but an apology, the cheese & onion pie I ordered as one main course nearly an hour ago had now sold out!

She told me she had only started her shift at 2pm so didn't really know what was going on, however the more mature lady who took the order stayed well away.

I decided enough was enough was enough and left the restaurant paying for the drinks I had purchased.

This was not the only problem, I witnessed three other people complaining about the food and service. One couple watched a table of three arrive, get fed and leave before they had even received their food.

This used to be a pub reknowned for good food and service. What a shame it's ended up like this.

Stay well away.

The Strawbury Duck, Entwistle

Called over the weekend, very nicely altered and improved, pleasant staff and good beer (Timothy Taylor's Landlord). Didn't try the food but after checking the menu, expect to pay over 11 for pie and chips. I suppose someone has to pay for the improvements!!

The New Inn, Thornton Le Dale

Fully agree with last - absolutely no atmosphere - beer ok though.

Cheers for a good few days of Timothy Taylor's Landlord. Staff very friendly. Would definitely go again.

The Blacksmiths Arms, Lastingham

Nice quaint country pub, full of charm and character, I can't say the same for the landlord though. Tried to have a conversation with him but he was more interested in the TV. I understand the pub is very busy so maybe he dosen't feel the need to be friendly!

Rose and Crown Hotel, Turton

Called for Sunday lunch in the restaurant, excellent service and food, my only complaint is the beer price - 2.90 for Timothy Taylor's Landlord!

The Chetham Arms, Turton

No wonder these places are empty on Sunday lunch, cheapest meal 8.95 and that's only for a medium fish & chips, if you want large add another 2. We called at the place was practically empty, apart from two tables - both had dogs with them in a dining room - er I dont think so! Needless to say we didn't stay.

The Black Dog, Belmont

Called yesterday for a drink, not impressed with the new decor, that paint job is dreadful. The food has rocketed up in price - steak pie 8.70, soup 3.75, chips 2.45 - crazy from what they used to charge before Christmas.

The Black Dog, Belmont

Always enjoyed this pub over the years but on our last visit for Sunday lunch found all the decent tables were reserved - this is a pub not some high class city centre restaurant - we were forced to sit at a less comfortable table and served by someone who had obviously had a personality by-pass. Will try again soon - but only once if still no better.
