Wick at Both Ends, Sheffield

A sanctuary in the middle of Sheffield if you want somewhere to drink which isn't full of chavs... instead, Wick at Both Ends is a quirky pub with a good selection of drinks (including ales and cocktails). Friendly bar staff, clean tables, clean (and rather funky) toilets. Old fashioned pub with a contemporary-vintage edge. Will definitely visit again when next in Sheffield.

Revolution, Sheffield

Same old Revolution... packed full of trendy, on-the-pull 20-somethings. Nice cocktails though. Shame we got thrown out of the quiet upstairs bar area; had to finish drinks down near dance floor...

The Forum, Sheffield

Went during Saturday afternoon. Ordered a small bowl of Nachos (3 bar snacks for 8.50, so only around 2.80 each) and got lots for your money. Very tasty too! Didn't have my favourite cider to choose from, so opted for a Becks (2.80 a pint; most other pints were around 3.50) which was fine. Sat outside overlooking the green. Overall, a lovely experience. Modern yet relaxed interior, friendly staff.

O'Neills, Ealing

Went in, reluctantly, for a quick one before heading out again, and glad it was over quickly. Lots of leering middle-aged men hanging by the doors and the sides, or dancing obnoxiously in the middle eyeing up anything that walks past. Football was on the TVs, as well as a live band which came on at 9pm (pretty good band actually, better than the loud, novelty 80s rubbish...). Got a Gin and Tonic (single 3.70) so same O'Neills prices, but I won't be recommending this place in a hurry. Not that this over-crowded, dirty place needs anymore people... plenty of other, more empty pubs in Ealing to visit, so avoid if you can.

Revolution, Richmond

Went here last Saturday. Was a massive queue to get in, but only took less than 5 minutes so don't be put off straight away. Inside is typical Revolution style; ultra modern and sleek. Two floors, both extremely busy, with seating around the edges and dance floors in the middle (free to get in so a great alternative to a nightclub). Usual Revolution menu of cocktails (around the 6.50 mark each) - I had classic Long Island Iced Tea which was delish. Queue to get served was rediculas, despite having 5 people serving behind bar, so best if you have patience! Everyone looked like they were out of Hollyoaks; definitely where all the pretty people from the surrounding area head to! Good music, good drinks; a good night out if you don't mind being surrounded by hundreds of drunk, young pretty people!

14 Apr 2010 10:28

The Woods, Bristol

Small and expensive; much better places to visit in Bristol.

13 Apr 2010 15:41

Lock 17, Camden

Went in here on a hot (and therefore busy) Saturday. Only one lady serving behind the bar which meant waiting at least 10mins to get served, but she was friendly enough and dealt with my order quickly. No cider on tap so got a bottle of Becks (3.95) and a bottle of Kopperburg for a friend (4.20) so was quite dear for drinks. Food well priced at around 6 for a good sized and good tasting burger and chips. Other friends got onion rings (delish!) and garlic ciabatta to nibble on, so food was great. Also lucky to get a seat, wasn't cramped and doors open to let cool air in. Over all, was a great destination right next to the lock that I would definitely visit again. Toilets and drinking/eating area both clean enough, although I didnt see any other members of staff cleaning tables; maybe I was too busy stuffing my face....!

Maes Knoll Toby Carvery, Bristol

Standard Toby Carvery... good seperate bar area where you can sit before dining, or even if you're not planning on eating. Food is always the same, consistant good quality. Bar offers a great selection of pumps, spirits and wines as well as seasonal drinks, all at pretty low prices. Pub itself is always clean, staff friendly enough (although in busier periods getting their attention can be difficult).

7 Apr 2010 14:46

The Fire Engine, Redfield

As I lived about 30 seconds down the road, I know I am not mistaken. I would say, however, that I had not visted the pub for about 3-4 months when I wrote my review, so the karaoke/DJ entertainment may have ceased by then. Still sticking to my guns about the age range though, although again this could have changed over the more recent months.

30 Mar 2010 13:02

Shore Cafe, Bristol

Very pleasant Friday evening spent here. Had a couple glasses of Pinot Grigio (small, 3.50) which was lovely. Atmosphere very laid back city bar, modern but still comfortable. Bar staff friendly enough (not exceptional). Clean bar and toilet. Avoid the Waterfront and go here instead - more expensive but much less cramped.

29 Mar 2010 14:06

Severnshed, Bristol

Didn't eat here, just sampled a few of their cocktails in their seperate bar. Had a classic mojito and some other lovely rum concoction. The staff were excellent, and will make any cocktail up for you if it's not on their great cocktail menu. Fairly pricey (cocktails around 6-7), but offers a great relaxed yet grown up atmosphere. Went on a Saturday night, and they basically stay open til the last person leaves (think we left around 12:30). Attentive staff, clean and relaxing; perfect Bristol bar on the quayside!

23 Mar 2010 16:19

The Rising Sun Hotel, Cleeve Hill

The best place to have a bite of food or eat out in the area. The views are incredible, the food very tasty (beware, food a bit expensive but you probably pay for the view as well), and a good selection of drinks including pumps, bottles and wines. I really great place to relax after a walk on Cleeve Hill. Bar staff were friendly enough, although perhaps could do with a smile, otherwise and excellent place to eat and drink.

12 Mar 2010 17:13

Thekla, Bristol

A bar and venue located on a boat on Bristol's mud dock. A gig venue as well as bar and club, Thekla is one of the city's grittier and more contemporary venues popular for anyone who enjoys good music. Great selection of ales on tap, as well as ciders and spirits. Not for those who are after high maintenance, Thekla's inside dance area can get quite cramped, but the deck space is a great place to spend an evening.

12 Mar 2010 16:40

The Fire Engine, Redfield

Dislike. Anyone under 40 is leared at (although bar staff are always friendly). Have dj and karaoke nights, but otherwise dedicated to locals. Not the most welcoming place.

12 Mar 2010 15:11

Mbargo, Bristol

I love this place; it's loud, cramped, takes ages to get served, but still always a great atmosphere. Some small seating areas dotted around this 2-bar club, with a medium sized dance floor round the back. Quite expensive, but normal city prices, plays dance/rnb/indie music. Great for students and non-students. Great place to start or finish a night on the tiles!

12 Mar 2010 15:09

St Georges Hall, Redfield

Used to be a local of wine. Always good for a drink as, as usual with Spoons, they have a good selection of drinks available all at low prices. Great seating area out back off main road during the summer (decking, tables and chairs), also have heaters for when it gets cooler. Inside it's split in half almost, one for dining the other for drinking, but you can sit where ever you wish. Food is hit and miss; I've eaten a few times and sometimes it's quick and tasty, others overcooked and delayed; all depends on the standards you set for a Spoons pub. Service always good (not exceptional), fairly clean and tidy (toilets always nice and fresh)...a welcoming and large place you don't feel shut out by locals.

12 Mar 2010 15:06

The Bristol Ram, Bristol

Excellent venue at the weekends. All the charm of an English pub with great live music on a Fri and Sat night. Last time I went, there was a man singing and playing a guitar; good quality accoustic music which makes a difference to MTV pop in other bars on Park Street. Drinks reasonably priced (small wine around 3), friendly bar staff, but gets very busy after about 10pm. Great atmosphere.

12 Mar 2010 15:00

The Cooler, Bristol

A live music venue, bar and club, The Cooler is one the best Indie hangouts in Bristol. Gets pretty crowded as it's not very big, but The Cooler has a great atmosphere, and very popular with students. Drinks are average quality and price.

11 Mar 2010 15:50

The Greenhouse, Bristol

THE best 2-for-1 cocktails ever (highly recommend their Long Island; very strong but tasty). A good place for food during the day, a nice bar in the evening, turning into a club at night (small dance floor though). Usually pop/cheesey/dance music, but it's a nice, clean bar with a good selection of drinks.

11 Mar 2010 15:49

Hotel Du Vin, Cheltenham

Very posh, but everyone is made to feel welcome. Drinks are expensive, but the service is perfect. Cosy atmosphere, very clean, and would highly recommend if celebrating a special occasion.

10 Mar 2010 16:58

Las Iguanas, Bristol

Latin American restaurant and bar. Excellent (but pricey) cocktails; very strong. Quite a small bar, so not great for large groups, but great for drinks with a group up to about 6 people. Latin music in background, creates a good holiday, happy feeling. Worth checking out when doing a Whiteladies crawl.

10 Mar 2010 16:36

Roo Bar, Clifton

Very studenty, cheap drinks, loud music, but overall a pretty good atmosphere. Gets very busy around 10pm, but the vibe is always good. Not the cleanest of places, sticky floors, but a great alternative bar to Whiteladies where the prices are higher.

10 Mar 2010 16:32

The Hophouse, Clifton

A good mix of modern and traditional pub interior. Light and clean. Drinks quite pricey but this is Clifton, so to be expected. Service is always friendly and efficient, attracting a mixed crowd of students and more mature professionals. Not tried the food, but menu looks quite gastro puby, and I've been assured it's good quality. Worth a look day or night.

10 Mar 2010 16:29

The Lizard Lounge, Clifton

Quite a funky vibe; very studenty. Quite pricey with loud music, but a great place to start the night.

10 Mar 2010 16:25

Hole in the Wall, Bristol

First visit to this pub and will definitely return. Ordered a pint of Addlestone cider (roughly 3.20) before which I was offered a taster as I'd never tried it (excellent bar service!)... very tasty cider indeed. Joined friends who had already eaten, all of whom raved about their food. Environment was lively as expected for a Saturday night, but it was light, not too loud and although a chilled out pub, it was more 'upmarket' than some other traditional pubs. Well worth a visit for food and drink.

8 Mar 2010 09:59

The Dunalley Street Bar, Cheltenham

Full of drunk old men.

Not a particularly classy establishment, but do offer free food and drink so worth a look.

wii games console also available, but can be quite off-putting watching the old men trying to 'hoola-hoop' of wii fit.

15 Aug 2008 09:37

The Parrott, Cheltenham

Not a big fan of this place. A strange setting; a mixture of restaurant style seating and sofas. Overpriced drinks (3.20 glass of small wine) which are the sorts of prices you expect in nicer establishments. Not a great atmosphere, and I found quite uncomfortable with the manner of the landlord who obviously loves having young ladies in his bar. Bar staff very friendly though, and quite a spacious place. Maybe ok for a drink, but I wouldnt wan tto stay any longer.

8 Jul 2008 16:15

Revolution Vodka Bar, Cheltenham

just wanted to update my last review...this is by far one of the best bars in Cheltenham. The food menu has been redone, and is very very good. Vodka Revs is a perfect place for a date in the afternoon, or an even better party hangout in the evening. They offer a loyalty card (not sure how much, probably around a fiver) which allows you to get special dedals throughout the year. I dont think anyone would be disappointed with this funky and contemporary bar. Prices can be a bit put off, but the lack of chavs, fighting and the great music definately makes up for it. A pint is around 3, with cocktails from about 3.50-5...but taste sooo good! Try it if you are ever in Cheltenham.

4 Jul 2008 10:38

Mbargo, Cheltenham

Gone seriously down hill since it opened last year... They started to get strict with who they let in as there were a few fights occuring regularly, but when their profits dropped, htye let them all back in. Quite a chavvy place, but the drinks are ok, though I swear their prices change to regularly for my liking. The atmosphere is great for a night out on the tiles; great music and dance area. An overall ok place to grab a few drinks before heading somewhere better.

4 Jul 2008 10:33

The Moon Under Water, Cheltenham

Not the worst Spoons I have been to, but still remains like most others...grumpy staff, uncleaned tables, sticky floors and very very dark inside...not sure why they cant invest in some lighting. OK for the evenings, but during the daytime, your eyes have to adjust to the especially dark interior. OK seating areas, some couches, stools, tables to eat at etc, but usually dirty. Always intimdating when walking in as there are stand-at tables where the local older men stand at, so girls, dont go in wearing a skirt! Just make sure you have ID even if you're 30....my mates ALWAYS get ID'ed no matter how old. Food terrible, no surprised there, but their selection of beverages is, as usual, unbeatble in terms of choice and price.

4 Jul 2008 10:30

All Bar One, Cheltenham

Great contemporary atmosphere with great seating where you are not cramped or uncomfortable. Offer outside seating which is great for this time of year. Food is average, but by no means poor. Good selection of drinks, fairly reasonable prices, about 3 for a glass of wine. Service usually friendly and speedy, although this place can get rather busy during the evenings. A nice place to have a bite to eat and chat with mates, always an inviting place I reckon!

1 Jul 2008 17:36

The Frog and Fiddle, Cheltenham

Overpriced drinks, ok atmosphere, fun quiz nights.

1 Jul 2008 17:33

Coco Lush, Cheltenham

Very small inside, but serve an OK cocktail. Always worth trying somewhere new, although nothing to shout about.

1 Jul 2008 17:32

Copa, Cheltenham

A great place during the summer, with outside seating on the street, where you can people watch to your hearts content! The wine on offer is always excellent and at reasonable prices (from 4 for a large glass). Also serve food, though never eaten there. The inside is a little shabby, although not dirty or untidy, just perhaps a little outdated. The bar area is nice, though, and service is always friendly. A great place to have a coffee during the day, and a nice place to have a catch up with friends as there is NO MUSIC... bliss!

1 Jul 2008 17:29

Apres, Cheltenham

A new(ish) bar in the heart of cheltenham. Beverage wise, they offer a range of cocktails and lagers, and everything inbetween (though not recommened for real ale drinkers). A cocktail pitcher is just 6 (between two, there is about two good glasses each), and a 4 pint pitcher for about 7, so great value. They offer a fantastic food menu, with everything from simple snacks (paninis, baked potatoes etc) to pizza and full meals (lasagne etc)...all of wihch tastes great. No one has ever complained when Ive been there. Atmophere wise, there is a modern and relaxed feeling. The interior is predominatly red which looks classy and inviting, with varied seating from tables, booths and stalls/bar areas. Plasma screens everywhere to show sporting games. Music is constantly played; during the day it is quieter, but at night it gets louder so dont expect to have a 'quiet' night in there. Overall, worth a a look ta, whether for a girly lunch, or the prelude to a hard night out.

The Bowgie Inn, Crantock Newquay

Has the most amazing views in the area, over looking Crantock Bay. Did not find the drink over expensive, but even so, worth paying a little extra for the views. Tried Rattler cider, was vrey tasty, but warning, very strong!
Has the simple cod and chips. Fish not fresh and a little watery, but fairly tasty all the same. Other friends had Creamy Fish Pie and the Fish Platter, all of whom thoroughly enjoyed their meal (again, none was fresh which is a shame due to the pub's marine view). Meals also quite expensive for what it was...about 9-10 for a main meal, but not expensive enough to be put off.
Definately worth a visit, especially if you are doing the coastal walk...a perfect place to rest and rejuvinate.

The enormous dog, Cody, is a complete sweety, though has a habit of taking things of the table, so hold on to your wallets! Harmless though...

The Red Lion, East Bergholt

My favourite pub in my old home village... great staff, pool table, dart board etc Lovely outside seating, separate dining area with a simple yet tasty menu. A must if travelling through.

The Harbour Inn, Axmouth

Just to inform you that the Harbour Inn was taken over in February this year, and is under new management.

14 May 2008 13:52

Blush, Cheltenham

Too busy, too small, and not enough bar space to serve the vast amounts of people. Good music though, and ample amounts of sitting space, though finding a free seat is difficult.

14 Mar 2008 13:39

Lloyds No.1, Bristol

Good atmosphere with reasonable prices, food and drink. The food is not top notch, but acceptable considering the low prices. Lovely views over the waterside if you are near the window too. Could benefit from some better music. If you are in the area definately worth a drink or two in there.

7 Dec 2007 16:34

The Playhouse, Colchester

Quite an eerie pub, not music and large open spaces, but I love this place! The food is, well, alright, but drinks are cheap, lots of seating (booths, tables, stools), huge bar (though when busy, still takes ages to get served). It is a student hot spot where you are likely to run into everyone you know. Not the greatest range of beers and ales, but enough to please most.

7 Dec 2007 10:34

The Spectre, Cheltenham

I dont know why, but despite the rubbish food and quite lousy interior, I love this place. Great seating areas, good amount of TVs for sports matches, alrigh tbar staff (some are a bit grumpy; overworked) but just love it! Good drinks prices, if you havnt yet, take a visit.

7 Dec 2007 10:30

The Frog and Fiddle, Cheltenham

I dont know what the fuss is about with this place; the drinks are rediculously over priced (2.50 for a glass of cola, over 3 for most pints) and not the bestr atmosphere. DO show sports games and matches which is useful, but otherwise not worth the hassle of the long queues with small bar!

7 Dec 2007 10:27

Copa, Cheltenham

I really like this place for both an afternoon lunch, and for drinks in the evening. Great in the summer to sit outside, but cosy inside in the winter. Bar staff were very friendly and efficient, but meal times can be quite long so prepare yourself.

7 Dec 2007 10:25

Revolution Vodka Bar, Cheltenham

Still has the features of the old chapel it used to be. I agree though with likemybeer, food is not great, but atmosphere almost compensates. Excellent range of vodka based drinks, i recommend the crushkas or the mudslide! yummmmm...

7 Dec 2007 10:22

Varsity, Cheltenham

Great atmosphere, plenty of seating. Quite bright and lively so not suitable for a quite pub drink, but a great place to start a night. Have not tried food yet, but menu looks ok. The prices are quite steep though, so beware what you order. A double can be about 4 from what I remember!

5 Dec 2007 13:07

The Coronation Tap, Clifton

One of the best spots in Bristol a great place to start you night out. I recommend starting here and walking/ taxi to whiteladies road then down park street.
Great pub with good prices and good atmosphere. More suited to students and the young at heart, got to try it at least once.
Quite small, or could benefit from more seating. Otherwise perfect.
