The Essex Arms, Walthamstow

Aug. '09
Planning permission sought from LBWF to build a TESCO EXPRESS. Bound to be granted as they are 'bolting-on' some flats on it as a 'sweetener'...You should have seen what TESCO's had to do in Dorchester, Dorset - build a new ground next door to their superstore for the local football club !

The Kings Ford, Chingford

As a regular 'Curry Club' punter on Thursday evenings it's worth the weekly trip on the W16 from Wood Street. The recent Real Ale Festival saw a good and varied selection of rarely-seen beers. The company have promised to keep prices as they are till March' 09 and their house bitters ( Marston's Pedigree / Green King Abbot etc ) are 1.99 per pint with guest beers at 1.69.. I know some people say that it's 'Cheap beer for Cheap people' but it's a change from your local and the food is as good as the beer choice varied. Just avoid the 'numpties' it attracts...somehow

The Plough, Walthamstow

Still serving excellent FULLER's real ales and the occasional guest beer deservedly receiving its 'Cask Marque' earlier this year. All the refurb work completed in the summer, and plenty of room for the smokers in the large beer garden at the rear
Price Guide : ESB & Porter @ 3.00 / London Pride and Discovery @ 2.70 per pint

The Lord Brooke, Walthamstow

Currently CLOSED for 'Technical Reasons'...this pub is hardly ever open for business and when it does another sign goes up within weeks saying they're 'closed' again

The William IV, Leyton

Good beer and food in this reliable pub.No sign of any microbrewed beers , unfortunately .
FULLERs beers were OK at 2.70 a pint for the PRIDE.
Shows SKY SPORTS football matches including Pay Per View

The Goose, Walthamstow

THE GOOSE ( no granite )is OK for a quick pint on the rare occasion when the handpumps are working , or having just escaped the nightmare that is the
VICTORIA(N) tube line
Food can be OK .Plasma TVs on 'mute' but piped music playing - what's that all about ??!?!
Your best bet is to jump on the overground Chingford rail 'service' one stop up the line , 2 mins. to Wood Street and into the PLOUGH INN for a pint of FULLERs ( trains every 15 mins. peak periods - when the wind's blowing in the right direction )

The Central Station, Walthamstow

Heard a rumour in the nearby market that this pub burnt down early 2007...

The Flower Pot, Walthamstow

The guest ale(s) here never quite match up to the better house beer BASS , especially in the hot summer of '06 when they turned to vinegar...
Live bands tend to be the 'same old same old' week in , week out - OK if you like your glorified karaoke for free , I suppose

The Drum, Walthamstow

Recently held FULLERS Festival in the last 2 weeks of 03/07 provided a great extension to the varied range of beers on offer here at this WETHERSPOON's pub at 1.59 a pint
The ( non-smoking ) conservatory is ideal to enjoy your meal , especially a 'ruby' on Thursdays served 3pm+
Plasma TV's offering Sky Sports News ( on 'mute' - subtitles only ) are an annoying distraction though...
Doesn't seem to be affected by the 2006 re-opening of THE BAKERS ARMS on the corner

The Plough, Walthamstow

As a local drinker of some 25 years standing
( although I sit down for the football...) this is the best pub in the Wood Street area ! Well-kept FULLER's ales and an extensive range of other beers , wines & spirits for the more discerning drinker . The big screen in the back bar shows football when no other function is booked . Recently I've seen CHRIS DIFFORD ( ex-Squeeze ) , GLEN MATLOCK ( ex- SEX PISTOLS ) and an unintentionally hilarious ROLLING STONES tribute band.
Good transport links as well.
Gordon Brown's March Budget put 1p on a pint of bitter and the LONDON PRIDE and other beers promptly went up 10p a pint !!! 2.70 is about average for the area , though
