The Clatford Arms, Goodworth Clatford

Wonderful pub in quiet village. Warm welcome from bar staff. Larger main bar includes pub sports with dart board and pool table, with another room to the side. 4 good beers available Flack Manor, Longdog and Otter were all in excellent condition. Well worth the detour to find this have and enjoyed so much we went back again the following evening as well.

Ye Olde Thirsty Pig, Maidstone

Interesting looking pub on a one way system around Maidstone. Small but comfortable.

Keen staff offering 4 ales usually all from Kent and good quality.

Worth visiting if in the area.

The Flower Pot, Maidstone

Fabulous street corner local pub with a range of 9 ales available across all strengths and styles.

Very busy on a Saturday night but still friendly and welcoming.

Definitely worth visiting.

Turfcutters Arms, East Boldre

The barman was clearly unhappy at having to break off his conversation to serve us. Pint of Ringwoods was too cold. We found better pubs during our stay in the New Forest where our custom was appreciated.

The Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield

This pub is very much aimed at the tourist trade but the quality of the ale is not in dispute. Slightly overpriced but no more than you would expect. A visit here is an experience, may not be not to everyone's taste but one of those pubs we all should try at least once.

22 May 2014 21:37

The Jolly Cricketers, Seer Green

A warm and friendly village pub with 4 real ales of good quality. Busy, which shows its local popularity. Small but relaxing garden at rear. Worth another visit if in the area.

Hop Poles, Brighton

Brilliant Welsh beer festival on at the Hop Poles until 6th March. Yesterdays beers came from Waen Brewery, Brecon Brewery, Neath Brewery, Celtic Experience and 2 from Otley Brewery including Oxymoron!. Understand they have other breweries represented in the cellar as well. Truly a great effort for a pub in Brighton. Unfortunately, I understand the current owners are letting the pub go back to Greene King. . Hopefully, someone will see how well its working with the current guest beer policy and continue the good work. Or else it will be back to IPA & Abbot. If there is anyone still going in there to drink them

The Victory Inn, Brighton

Agree with previous posts that this pub is expensive. Don't mind paying a bit extra if the place is worth it but this one certainly isn't. Did get my pint topped up but it was done very grudgingly. The barmaid gave the same grumpy service to everyone as far as I could see. I understand that working on New Years Day must be a pain but if you don't want to be polite just keep the pub shut and let the customers go somewhere else. 4 Sussex ales available and my pint was fine but the impression left by the staff does not encourage me to return in a hurry.

Hop Poles, Brighton

Thankfully gone back to its proper name of The Spotted Dog. Having been released from its Grren King tie, now offers a wide range of beers mainly from local brewers such as Kissingate. Food looked good too.

The Horns Lodge, South Chailey

Has fast become an asset to the Sussex real ale scene. Always a warm welcome with regular and guest beers in excellent condition. Bar Billiard, darts and Toad in the Hole as well as board games available. Good garden for warm days (when we get them). A separate area for meals. All in all a place that definitely needs sampling again soon.

30 Dec 2011 18:23

The Cock Inn, Wivelsfield

Fast becoming a great place to visit. Good range of beers and a good atmosphere. Food reasonably priced & big portions. Well worth trying.

30 Dec 2011 18:15

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street

Very old pub with lots of basic rooms. Great to visit and Sam Smiths beers. Worth visiting for the history

30 Dec 2011 18:12

The Cross Keys, Covent Garden

Small but very comfortable pub. Great beer from Brodies. Reasonable prices for the area, Brilliant find and another visit required soon

30 Dec 2011 18:09

The Blacksmiths Arms, Skendlby

Pretty local Lincolnshire village pub worth leaving the bright lights of Skegness to seek out. Small bar area with tiled floor and cellar behind bar where you can see the barrels on stillage through a glass window. Batemans share the pumps with beers from other local breweries. A small snug bar and a separate restaurant area at back. Large garden and large car park complete the scene. Isolated but a pleasant haven to enjoy an excellent pint.

22 Sep 2011 20:20

Massingberd Arms, South Ormsby

Friendly village pub serving 3 local brewery beers. Don't be put of by the rather plain outside as it is cosy inside with a good atmosphere. Shame it's quite isolated but that's also part of its charm.

22 Sep 2011 20:03

Talbot Taphouse, Ripley

Amber Ales brewery tap and very good beer it is. Quiet on a Sunday evening and only a small selection of their own beers. Don't know if there are more available at other busier sessions. Good beer and friendly pub. Only grouse is that they don't do bottles as I would have brought some back to give the lads in my local a treat. Worth seeking out if you haven't yet visited.

22 Sep 2011 20:00

Poet and Castle, Ripley

Excellent sister pub to Old Poets Corner. Quieter, which makes for a different but equally good drinking atmosphere. Choice of own Ashover Brewery beers or guests with food available at usual times. Another reason for a return visit to Derbyshire I feel.

22 Sep 2011 19:56

The Old Poet's Corner, Ashover

Excellent pub. Busy with both drinkers and diners. Great choice of ales, guests as well as from own brwerery. Small outside drinking area at back. Just about everything you need in a pub. Worth seeking out and I plan to go back to Derbyshire again just to go here...Closest I have ever come on here to giving 10 out of 10!

22 Sep 2011 19:52

The Coopers Arms, Crowborough

I too have mixed feelings after my first visit. Good mix of locals/visitors and choice of 3 Dark Star beers plus guests. Tried a Black Cat beer and it was lifeless in the glass. Other pints of the same beer were poured, all the same so I assume was the beer not the cellar. Had a Red Squirrel Redwood which was good but 4.00 a pint is a silly price for a 5.4% beer. As I say left with mixed feelings but the pricing policy may well deter me from another visit.

22 Sep 2011 19:47

The Hatch Inn, Colemans Hatch

Village pub, nice to look at from outside. Inside is very small and dominated by locals. Service is exceedingly slow and the prices are ridiculous. 5.35 for a diet coke and a pint of 3.4% Larkins beer. Couldn't afford another visit if I wanted to go back.

22 Sep 2011 19:40

The Anchor Inn, Hartfield

Busy pub which seems to be the locals choice. Good choice of ales and a Friday night steak offer which was reasonably priced. One barman in such a busy place meant service was rather slow. Would visit again if in the area but not worth travelling miles just to come here in my opinion.

22 Sep 2011 19:34

The Dorset Arms, Withyham Hartfield

Understand this Harveys pub changed management not long ago. Excellent pint of Harveys and very friendly staff so hope the new team do well. Certainly deserve to on this visit. Didnt eat on this occasion but menu looks good but priced for the area.

22 Sep 2011 19:30

The Harp, Covent Garden

I feel Delirious Nomad may spend a long time searching for their ultimate pint if the cannot find it here. My first visit and I was not disappointed. Small and justifiably crowded, but I found sanctuary in a leather armchair upstairs. Beers from Atomic, Dark Star, Harveys, Red Squirrel and Sambrooks Breweries. All of them enjoyable. Not cheap to drink here but much as I had anticipated paying for the location. I can see why CAMRA have rated this as their Pub of the Year and will no doubt visit again shortly.

25 Mar 2011 11:47

The Good Companions, Brighton

This pub has been refurbished to a high standard. My impression is that they wiould like to concentrate on food. Didnt eat here but it looked Ok but upmarket and priced accordingly. 8 hand pumps serving beersmainly from Sussex but all from South East including Arundel, Ballards, Dark Star, Hepworths & Ramsgate Breweries. All between 3.40 - 3.60. I suppose they need to pay for the refurbishment somehow! Worth a visit but I could not afford to spend a whole evening there.

25 Mar 2011 11:41

The Victoria Hotel, Leeds

Fabulous example of an old Victorian hotel. Leather backed settles in drinking booths. Magnificent glass backing to the bar. Well worth visiting just for the grandeur of the place. Wide range beers from Brains, Brew Dog, Rudgate, Sharps, Wolf, Williams, & York breweries on my visit . And in excellent condition as well. Definitely a must if you visit Leeds.

25 Mar 2011 11:33

The Duck and Drake, Leeds

Basic pub, largely set out for live music & walls adorned with concert billings and music memorabilia. 8 ales from Leeds, Ossett, Ridgeside & Northumberland Breweries when I visited as well as Theakstons, Batemans & Greene King. Beer in good condition. Well worth a visit.

25 Mar 2011 11:27

Fox & Newt, Leeds

Rather a student atmosphere but pleasant. Burley Street Brewery beers were good and well priced. Worth another visit sometime.

13 Jan 2011 19:08

Mr Foley's Cask Ale House, Leeds

Very comfortable sofas, great selection of beers. York brewery range & selection of guests. Quite liked the different areas on different levels. Definitely worth visiting again.

13 Jan 2011 18:37

Whitelocks, Leeds

Definitely unique but I got the impression that leads to a number of I want to be seen in here types. Prices rather steep as well; more than down south! On a winter evening space inside was at a premium. So much so that another customer knocked half of my beer over me then walked away as if nothing had happened. Think I'll visit again in summer to try the benches in the alley.

13 Jan 2011 18:33

The Brewery Tap, Leeds

Excellent Leeds Brewery beers in a busy but friendly pub. Modern, which may upset some of the purists but the quality of the beer cannot be doubted.

13 Jan 2011 18:27

The Falkland Arms, Great Tew

Had to be a grockle and visit while in the area. Wonderful attractive pub with Wadworth beers and guests. Prices were high but I had expected this. Glad I have finally tasted the pub for myself but is not on my must visit again list.

2 Sep 2010 14:10

The George Inn, Barford St Michael

Lovely village pub with an enthusiastic landlord. Good range of beers in excellent condition (I did try quite a few!) Well worth seeking out.

2 Sep 2010 14:01

The Crown and Tuns, Deddington

Food does seem to dominate here with a very wide selection of pies. We arrived later in the evening so the food rush had died down. Enjoyed a good pint of Hook Norton served by friendly bar staff. Would be happy to visit again.

2 Sep 2010 13:59

The Bell Inn, Adderbury

Fabulous village pub. Comfortable sofas. Superb Hook Norton beers. And seems to be something going on in the pub every night creating an excellent atmosphere. Would love this to be my local. Well worth visiting.

2 Sep 2010 13:56

The Red Lion, Adderbury

Nice accomodation. Good value good quality food. We had a good stay here. Greene King owned so only their beers.

2 Sep 2010 13:54

The Coach and Horses, Adderbury

Found this to deserted all but 3 regulars when I visited on a Wednesday evening. Wadsworth beer was aceptable but I didnt rate this as the best pub in the village.

2 Sep 2010 13:49

The Dodford Inn, Dodford

Eventually found this in its somewhat remote location. Very clean and tidy but rather surprised to find all beers 4.5% or above. Cant see that this attracts due to the need to drive there.

2 Sep 2010 13:43

The Swan, Kidderminster

Aah Bathams. Nice pub. Large garden. Bathams beer in good condition. Would happily visit again.

2 Sep 2010 13:40

The Fox Inn, Chaddesley Corbett

Very friendly roadside pub with an Oakham and a Wye Valley beer available and in good condition. Food was good and plentiful. Reasonable quality too.

2 Sep 2010 13:39

The Fruiterers Arms, Uphampton

Seemed to me that it is the only public house for miles. 2 roomed pub selling its own Canon Royall Brewery beers which were very nice when I could detach the barmaid from her mobile phone to serve me.

2 Sep 2010 13:36

Coalbrookdale Inn, Coalbrookdale

An excellent pub. Did mean to visit 2 or 3 other in the area but stayed here longer than I intended it was so good.

2 Sep 2010 13:33

The All Nations, Madeley

As previously said... A gem. Basic but brilliant is the only description I can think of.

2 Sep 2010 13:30

The Newshouse, Nottingham

If you like your pubs to be comfortable friendly and have good beer then the Newshouse fits the bill. Away from the City Centre but close enough to the railway station, trams and buses. I found the Newshouse to be a worthy CAMRA pub of the year winner. Can't wait to return.

7 Oct 2009 20:27

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham

Now owned by Greene King but also selling Nottingham Brewery beers. However, the main reason to visit is to experience the history of this pub built into the rock beneath Nottingham Castle. The interior is made up of small rooms some of which are simply carved into the rock. A courtyard and a separate outside drinking area provide a moments calm away from the throng of tourists. Well worth visiting and worth a second visit to ensure that you didnt miss anything first time round!

7 Oct 2009 20:16

The Vat and Fiddle, Nottingham

Superb brewery tap for Castle Rock Brewery. Comfortable interior with outside seating. Staff service exemplary and the excellent range of Castle Rock beers with the One over the Eight scheme providing the perfect excuse to linger and enjoy this great pub.

7 Oct 2009 20:15

The Ram Inn, Firle

Signposted from the A27 and in the centre of the village. Catering mainly for diners but with 4 beers available on our visit from Harveys, Sharps and Dark Star. A small bar area but with seating in the 3 separate rooms and garden as well as in front of the pub. Currently on local CAMRA Ale Trail.

4 Aug 2009 18:23

The Cricketers Arms, Berwick

This fabulous pub is signposted from the A27. Although small inside, a large garden in front and to the rear of the pub provides seating and the opportunity to enjoy the sun with your beer. Excellent Harveys straight from the barrel make this a must visit pub in East Sussex. Definitely worth the walk from Berwick Station.

4 Aug 2009 18:22

The Tiger Inn, East Dean

A typical village pub beside the village green and well positioned for visiting the local tourist attractions. Now acting as the brewery tap for Beachy Head Brewery. The Beachy Head beers were rather disappointing and I may have been safer to stick with Harveys. Did not try the food although it seemed to be well presented. Would be willing to try again if in the area.

4 Aug 2009 18:22

The Plough and Harrow, Litlington

On a route linking the A27 and Cuckmere Haven Country Park, this pub appears to cater mainly for diners but does not forget beer lovers. A wide menu of quality food is available complimented by 4 Sussex beers on our visit from Harveys, Dark Star and WJ King at a slightly high price for the area. Worth visiting if in the area.

4 Aug 2009 18:20

The Sussex Ox, Milton Street

Signposted from the A27. The Sussex Ox has been tastefully refurbished with a good sized bar area and separate dining areas. The wooden decking area and large garden afford fantastic views. Although we didnt eat, the food looked to be of high quality, although the prices reflected this. 3 Sussex beers available on our visit, from Harveys, Dark Star and 1648 Brewery were in good condition and reasonably priced. Although somewhat secluded, this pub is definitely worth seeking out.

4 Aug 2009 18:19

The Anglesey Arms, Halnaker

Found this to be a friendly pub with a good atmosphere. Beer was good although did not try food sure this would be too.
Will definitely be visiting here again soon.

2 Jun 2009 20:35

The Country Inn, Bepton

When a country pub is busy ery busy early on a friday evening it is usually a good sign and the Country Inn did not disappoint.
Good beer and a large garden to enjoy it in the sunshine. A perfect way to spend a summer evening.

2 Jun 2009 20:30

The Fox Goes Free, Charlton

Food was slightly overpriced but portions were good and very tasty!
Havent tried Ballards beer for a while and this was as good as any I have had before. Garden was well populated on a summer evening and the inside was just as busy. Definitely worth a second visit sometime.

2 Jun 2009 20:27

The Red Lion, Fernhurst

Have to say I was disappointed with this Fullers pub. Feel the price was expensive even for the area. And I had to ask for a 'top up', although this was given without question.

2 Jun 2009 20:08

The Duke of Cumberland, Henley

We didnt eat here so cannot comment on the food. But the beer was in very good condition. With a small interior to the pub we were happy to sit in the vast garden.
Although isolated I feel this pub is well worth seeking out. Will be happy to visit again when in the area.
