The George Canning, Denmark Hill

This is my local and I feel some loyalty towards it...But I can’t help agreeing that the bar staff operate on the wrong side of useless.

Last night, the bar girl repeatedly put soda in the gin and tonics, didn’t bother apologising and tried to charge for the replacement drinks. There were all of a dozen customers in the place and serving them seemed beyond her control. The staff really do let this place down.

The Landor, Clapham

I wouldn't call the barmaid a minger, but the service is sometimes slow and surly. In allhonesty, I would prefer if she was an out-and-out minger.

Overall, the Landor is deceptive. It appears to be a quality pub, but in reality it is every bit as superficial as the wannabies who seem to think it is 'alternative' when compared to Clapham High St.

The decor is a case in point. The upturned scull hanging from the ceiling suggests an interesting Landlord, even a tangible theme, but the lack of proper blades reveals that the hull represents nothing more than usual meaningless pub nick-nackery.

Avoid.
