As a fan of Laurie Lee's 'Cider with Rosie', it has long been my intention to visit this jewel of the England's literary heritage. The pub is perched precariously on the side of the road, opposite the church. As I entered the front door, with trepidation, I braced myself for the worst. But no: its not changed in 80 years.
Ordering a pint of Uley bitter, I surveyed the cramped interior from where 'Vincent' had unwisely flashed his gold coins. At the left end of the pub, were the benches where his killers enjoyed their 'hot pokered cider'. I too took a seat there. Times have changed though: a couple next to me were enjoying a rather posh-looking sausage and mash.
After another pint of excellent ale, from a very good selection, I slipped quietly out of the side door, unnoticed by any at the bar, as it had also been almost a century ago.
My advice to any Laurie Lee fans? Get here before its gone!

This is now a gastropub named 'Ludo's' and according to google is named after the owner/chef Ludovic Dieumegard. It has some good reviews and also according to google the chef previously worked out of 'The Old Red Cow' on the far side of town. This last pub is now a Chinese takeaway according to the landlady of the Ivy Bush.

Cosy, quiet pub. Everards Tiger, Abbott and Bishops finger on tap. Worth a visit.

A pleasant locals pub. Bishops finger, Thatchers Heritage and Snowdonia Moose on tap. Folk group playing. Nice.

Not open on Sunday night. I was told by a local that the owner runs it more as a restuarant than a pub and is apparently trying to sell the place.

A pub with old world decor serving Brains bitter, SA, and Abbot. Worth a visit.

Comfortable, tidy pub. Tim Taylor, Reverend James and Betty Stoggs. Only ruined by the presence of the local twentysomething arseholes!

Closed on Sunday night. Looks more food orientated than ale.

Crown and Anchor Inn, Llanidloes
A very cosy, little pub. We were served by a very friendly barmaid. The ales on tap were Worthington and Reverend James. Recommended.

Completely geared to food, but with that said there was a large selection of real ales available. I had a half of 'Shipwreck' and a half of a local medium scumpy: excellent. The staff were very nice, but they may want to reconsider their choice of background music: non-stop blues is not to everyone's taste.

I had a half of St Austell's Tribute here. The place is shabby and according to an informed source, no new investment is likely from its brewery owner. Is this to be Polperro's next pub for the chop?

The Noughts and Crosses, Polperro
This pub has closed for good: the workmen are in and the planning permission notice says 'take away'.

Had a pint of Olde Trip in here. Nice barmaid: very quiet though.

Six ales on and I had a pint of York Guzzler. Rather quiet, though it was 7pm on a Thursday evening. Friendly barmaid and 'famous' dog (as seen in local press).

Four ales to choose from including Woodfords Wherry. I had a pint of Shepherd Neame's Spitfire which was fine. A pleasant pub.

I can confirm the above comments concerning price. I had a half of Jennings Snecklifter which was OK. As for the interior it was rather minimalist: it was probably full of character until someone took a large can of emulsion to it.

The White Horse Churton, Churton
I visited during lunch hour while working in the area. 3 real ales on. The weekday lunch menu had a 2 courses for 6.95 - I had a haddock & spinich fishcake to start followed by a 5oz gammon with egg & chips. Not a huge amount but very good value nevertheless.

This pub had 3 ales on including a very good Tim Taylor Landlord but alas nothing local. I was unable to sample the fare due to a large party due to attend. Seemed a nice pub though.

Closed down yet again. I think this is one pub that may be past reviving.

Arguably the best pub in Leominster with a large selection of real ales including the ever popular Butty Bach, it has a free jukebox, sports TV coverage and a pleasant crowd ranging from teenagers to pensioners. If you order a prawn baguette from the lunchtime menu and its served up by a young lady named Laura, make certain she's put the rose marie sauce in!

I'm afraid this pub has closed down again: another victim of shortsighted pubco greed.
