The Black Bull, Haltwhistle

Just come back from this pub - very good atmosphere with an excellent selection of beer. The Worthys Autumn ale was a revelation and the food was good. Excellent service and friendly staff. I wish my local was this good

Joiners Arms, Morpeth

An excellent pub with a decent choice of well served beers - a good atmosphere in the pub and a friendly welcome. Unfortunately when I went there last night I must have had the misfortune to sit next to a meeting of the Morpeth branch of the BNP. I stopped for one pint because I did not want to hear a load of racist opinions from one block (who was clearly a regular) and his mates. Apart from this an excellent pub which I would visit again.

The Northumberland Arms, Bedlington

Went there last night - not a lot of people in but the beer was a decent real ale at a decent price - the only place I found real ale in Bedlington. If in Bedlington this is the place to go for a decent pint

The Dipton Mill Inn, Hexham

An exellent pub all round. The beers were well priced and well kept. The whapweasel was particularly good. A nice atmoshpere, decent food and very helpful barstaff made this pub a pleasure to be in.

Big Jug, Durham

Real ale surved here and quite nice as well. Canny place with no pretentions (unlike some of the pubs near the Gala theatre)

O'Neills Irish Bar, Durham

Has gone back to being the castle. OK pint (no real ales which at this end of Durham is shite) but not a place I would go back to in a hurry

23 Oct 2010 11:04

The Black Lion, Bridlington

Went in at 6.00 on a Friday night and despite the friendly lady at the bar felt really out of place. No real ales to speak of and a crappy pint of John Smiths.

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham

Had to go to it as it ws the oldest pub in England and well worth a visit - drank "old trip" beer which was a proper beer and worth sampling. Who cares if it was full of tourists (like me) it was still a great pub

15 Aug 2010 22:56

The Windmill, Stratford Upon Avon

A decent pub which served handpulled "Greene King IPA" (an awful pint) fairly well. Good atmosphere but rather pricy for a round.

15 Aug 2010 22:53

Plough, Worcester

A very good pub with a wide selection of ales with a really good atmosphere. The best pub that I visited in Worcester.

15 Aug 2010 22:50

The Ship and Castle, Aberystwyth

I visted this pub on an eight day "tour of Britain" and can say that it was by far the best pub that I visited. A great selection of beers and excellent and knowledgable staff who knew good beer. I drank a couple of funny tasting local ales before setting on the "Hereford IPA" which I was not expecting a lot of (southern shit beer from a cider area) but enjoyed it so much that I had five more before staggering back to the hotel. A must see pub and the only one I have ever rated as 10 out of 10.

15 Aug 2010 22:48

The Saddle Inn, Blackpool

The beer here was very good but it was one hell of walk and I expected more from a pub with a rating as high as this. A good selection of ales though.

15 Aug 2010 22:42

The Pump and Truncheon, Blackpool

An average bar in an awful place - the beer was reasonably priced (5.00) for a round but lacking in atmoshpere. A fairly average pint.

15 Aug 2010 22:40

The Old Bell Tavern, Harrogate

A canny, if overprices, pub. Good for one pint but not a patch on "the Hales" around the corner.

15 Aug 2010 22:38

The Coach and Horses, Harrogate

Decent pub which serves a good pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord at a reasonable price - great atmosphere and it was chockablock on a Thursday evening. Good.

15 Aug 2010 22:36

Hales Bar, Harrogate

A good pint of Landlord here with an excellent atmosphere and reasonable prices - an "interesting" set of customers which made a great night out

13 Aug 2010 16:41

The Telegraph, Bridlington

Had a nice pint of beers from one of the local brewaries (cannot remember its name). Busy and atmospheric but overall average (but above average for Bridlington)

13 Aug 2010 16:37

Old Ship Inn, Bridlington

Had a pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord - it was nice but rather expensive. Quite a nice little pub if nothing special

13 Aug 2010 16:36

The Cricketers Arms, Bridlington

The only people in the pub were us - beer (John Smiths cask - yuck) was poor and relativly expensive

13 Aug 2010 16:34

Ye Old Elm Tree, Durham

A nice little pub with great beer - good selection of local real ales which are well kept, if not always top of the range

11 Jul 2010 21:42

Head of Steam, Durham

This pub was very good at the end of 2009 and had a great selection of beers and had a good atmosphere away from the chavvy clientelle that usually populates North Road in Durham. On my last two visits the real ales were off and on the first occasion the pub was filled will people belonging the EDL (from the look of what was on their shirts a far right group) singing and on the second occasion I was asked if I had any "cowies". Potentially a very good pub.

11 Jul 2010 21:38

Pink Domino, Hartlepool

The type of place that Ronnie Biggs and the Krays would use for "Business meetings" - I went in as a stranger wearing a suit and felt like a spy from the nash. Not even the beer was nice.

11 Jul 2010 21:25

Wells Tavern, Exeter

Its a shame that this pub is nearly 400 miles away from where I live!! Went there to watch Exeter v Oldham and everything about it was excellent. Went there for a pint and spend two hours before and two hours after the game in the bar. A great welcome from the bar staff, a good atmosphere and most importantly a well kept selection of real ales (being a northerner most of them were new to me). Certainly worth popping in.

Lambton Arms, Chester Le Street

The beer her is awful but the food and service are excellent. I often pop in here on a Saturday dinner time for one of their specials which are excellent value for 4ish. The staff are superb and have good crack - its a shame that the beer is not up to this standard

5 Mar 2010 23:52

The Woodman Inn, Durham

This is a really good pub with excellent Jennigns beers - although it is full of hooray Henry students there is a nice atmosphere beteeen then and the locals. A great pub that I would recommend to any visitir to the city

5 Mar 2010 23:49

The Tall Ships, Middle Warren

The staff here are brilliant and the beer is good but the quality of the food let the place down badly, It was awful. Even the good staff and decent beer could not make up for this.

5 Mar 2010 23:44

Sportsmans Arms, Belmont

I never used to like this pub but on my vist tonight the beer was very good - it was John Smiths but a very well kept pint of John Smiths. A lot better than my previous experiances. Well done to the landlord.

5 Mar 2010 23:38

Queens Head Hotel, Durham

I don't know why but i liked this pub - the beer was Ok but the service was fine and the crack was good

7 Feb 2010 21:04

The Water House, Durham

Beer was cheap but not very good - service the last couple of times I have been in has been poor. I was the only person at the bar and it still took five minutes to get served

7 Feb 2010 21:01

The Victoria Hotel, Durham

A hidden treasure. A great selection of beers and a great welcome. The beers are well kept and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is good and is like going back to a time before I was born (in a good way)

7 Feb 2010 21:00

The Shoes, Durham

An alright pub - the beer is alright and the welcome from behind the bar was good but the atmnosphere was lacking

7 Feb 2010 20:58

The Half Moon, Durham

One of the best kept pints Durham - an old fashioned pub with a good atmosphere.

7 Feb 2010 20:55

The Shakespeare Tavern, Durham

10 years ago this used to be the best pub in Durham with a good atmosphere and great beer but over the last three years it seems to have become a victim of its own success - it is full of Hooray henries and the last time I was in I got told off by a set of folk singers for talking whilst they were singing and I insisted on talking (in a whisper) whilst doing this. Avoid a Thursday evening if possible. The Shaekespeare used to be a top class pub but it has lost this.

27 Sep 2009 00:18

The Colpitts Hotel, Durham

The pubs atmosphere is one of the best in Durham but the beer (Sam smiths) is poor

27 Sep 2009 00:12

The City, Durham

OK - cheap but the beer was nothing special

27 Sep 2009 00:11

Bridge Hotel, Durham

sorry i clicked on the wrong pub lsa t time - a good pub with excellent food

27 Sep 2009 00:10

Bridge Hotel, Durham

OK but nothing special

27 Sep 2009 00:09

Tap and Spile, Framwellgate Moor

the best real ale pub in Durham city. It looks like a right dump from outside but the selection of ales that it offers is superb and at a very reasonable price. The most outstanding factor about this pub is the atmosphere (which makes the whole experiance worthwhile) and the helpfulness and knowledge of the staff which makes this a topper drinking experiance

31 Aug 2009 23:20

Salopian Bar, Shrewsbury

To be honest the best pulled set of pints I have ever tasted - the pub itself is too modern for my liking so we sat outside on a late summers evening and enjoyed a great selection of pints of beer and ciders. This is the best pub in Shrewsbury (which is praise indeed due to the high number of good real ale pubs in this town

31 Aug 2009 23:14

The New Inn, Brentford

By far the best all around pub in the Griffin Park area of Brentford. There was a good mix of home and away fans with good and friendly banter all around. I had a Deuchars IPA (a pint I find hard work) and it was excellent - this shows how good the pints were kept at this place. The bar staff were excellent and helpful and I would recommend this pub to anyone.

31 Aug 2009 23:10

The Griffin, Brentford

The ber in this pub is excellent as is the service - the football fans in the pub were welcoming and very good crack. A great bar which I would recommend to any away or neutral supporter

31 Aug 2009 23:06

The Royal Oak, Brentford

I had a pint of courage best which was fine and the service was excellent. As a neutral football fan looking in at a fixture I liked (a Hartlepool fan watching Brentford v Oldham) one of the young lads in the pub phoning his mates as "an Oldham fan who was on his own who you should come down and kick his head in." I would not recommend any away supporters or any neutrals going to this pub.

31 Aug 2009 23:01

The Coopers Tavern, Burton-Upon-Trent

This was one of the best pubs that I have ever drunk in - I had a pint of red shield and it was an excellent pint to drink and cheap[ at the price (it and a pint of old rosie cider cost 5). The service was excellent and the whole atmosphere of the pub made it a pleasant experiance

31 Aug 2009 22:53

The Wetmore Whistle, Burton-Upon-Trent

The beer here was excellent - I had the harvester gold yesterday evening which was top class in taste and price but was not made welcome by the staff and other customers which was disappointing given the reputation of this pub
