Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street

What a find this pub is! Beer and food all 5 star, thank you for a most enjoyable visit. Highly recommended!

Goat and Tricycle, Bournemouth

This place seems to be going down hill. There is plenty of choice of ale, but what a ropey collection over the last 2-3 months! You won't find anything over 4.5% here, unless you want to drink Wadworths. Customers seem to be realising this, the last few saturday nights being very quiet.

Appears now to have shut down

The Porterhouse, Westbourne

As a regular, I have nothing but praise for the way in which John manages the Porterhouse. He and his team are excellent, I hope he takes the tenancy and gets better guest ales than those he is currently obligued to take on.

Goat and Tricycle, Bournemouth

This pub, once one of my real favourites has just priced itself out of the market. Went in on Saturday and paid 2.80 for a pint of Bishops Finger! No complaints about the beer, but the price! It's gone up 20p in one go. The food although the usual high standard, has also seen a price increase. As a regular I think I shall think twice about going back as other real ale pubs in the area have only increased a pint from 5p - 10p.

The Bakers Arms, Poole

What a waste of space this pub is ! Actually more of a resturant now; but the food is dire. Ordered a pint of Speckeled Hen, which was pumped through a Guiness pipe hence the Guiness head on it !!!!! Will never darken the door again.

The Blue Boar, Poole

Doesn't sell the full Fullers range. Went in to sample Fullers London Porter and they don't stock it !!!!!

The Chandos, Trafalgar Square

Excellent traditional hardwood interior to the this pub. Samuel Smiths is always good and spent an hour in here trying different Smiths ales. Upstairs is better if you want to sit more comfortably. Why are the staff so clueless??? Asked for Porter and was given first Water and then Port!! Then asked for a menu for the upstairs dining rooms and was told they hadn't got them downstairs. They couldn't be bothered to give me a menu, so I couldn't be bothered to order food. Simple as that!

The Cambridge, Soho

Nice interior and 4 real ales on offer. Didn't have the food although it looked good from what I could see. Shame about the staff who seem to know nothing about ale real or anything about their surroundings. A sign on the counter said ask about the local real ale trail, sure enough when I asked I got blank looks all round. Fortunatley I got talking to a local who pointed me in the right direction for other local real ale pubs. Why do pubs take on staff who couldn't care less??

Just been awarded local CAMRA pub of the season

Dean Park Inn, Bournemouth

What a change in this pub over a year!

Had Sunday lunch there today, which was a carvery offering 2 types of meat. I had the lamb which was stringy and fatty with the vegtables which had been kept hot and were bland. All for a quite pricey 6.

After the lunch I went to the bar and ordered a pint of Wicked Witch by Marstons, which was quite drinkable. However the young barman who served was totally uninterested bordering on the rude, he was more absorbed with the large TV screens blaring out the football. Messy, uncleared tables completed the scene.

Come on guys! What's happened to customer service and value?????

The Denmark Arms, East Ham

Agree with beeronaut. This pub could be a real gem within the area. This pub has been there since the beginning of time. Indeed my g.grandmother was a regular, shame to see it lose its unique 'eastend' appeal. Come on make this pub great again and one to be proud of !

The Seaview Hotel, Upper Parkstone

Been there twice now and each visit was poor. Both times all the real ale was off. Today I thought I was in luck but the Ringwood ran dry while the barmaid was pouring it. So I think it's safe to say this pub does not appreciate real ale and whoever does the ordering needs to realise that pub with no ale isn't really a pub. Looked at the menu which includes tapas and concluded that a cafe would be far cheaper, which is where I went next after I'd finished my lemonade !

10 Aug 2006 00:13

The Saxon Inn, Child Okeford

A beautiful country pub in rural Dorset. Offering 4 draft real ales and EXCELLENT food. Log fires in the winter and a large beer garden with games in the summer.

23 Jul 2006 19:11

The Riverside Inn, Tuckton

who runs this place???? called in earlier this evening for a pint or two. ALL the real ales were off!! Even the Carlsberg had run dry. What's the point of a pub with no beer and lousy bar service????

20 Jul 2006 01:39

The Kings Arms, Arundel

What a friendly pub this is. Had a pint of Youngs Special Ale and it was fantastic. Pity they close a 3pm and dont serve food

15 Jul 2006 16:33

The Black Rabbit, Offham

I'm informed that this pub was quite a classy dining outfit many years ago. What a change there has been since then. The only good thing about this Hall and Woodhouse pub is the location and view. There were a couple of real ales on, but they don't know how to keep them in tip top condition. Won't bother with this chain pub again.

15 Jul 2006 16:32

The Manor Arms, Burton

An absolute hole and always has been !

6 Jul 2006 15:09

The Woolpack, Sopley

Had the steak diane made with braising steak!!!! Decent pint of ale tho

6 Jul 2006 15:07

Bar Med, Bournemouth

Yep agree with all that

6 Jul 2006 14:51

The Westcliff Tavern and Carvery, Bournemouth

Good range of real ales that are well kept. Carvery looks good too. No smoking inside but loads of seating outside. Very busy during the summer months.

6 Jul 2006 14:49

The Branksome Arms, Bournemouth

Full of loud music and flashing lights. Decent beer garden but no decent beer served. Go to the Goat and Tricycle round the corner.

6 Jul 2006 14:47

Zinc, Bournemouth

Looks and feels like a youth club. No real ales and food always seems to be off.

6 Jul 2006 14:45

The Exchange, Bournemouth

No real ale here. Bottle of expensive Guiness is as good as it gets

6 Jul 2006 14:44

The Bakers Arms, Bournemouth

BADLY in need of refurbishment. Landlord friendly

6 Jul 2006 14:43

The Oyster Quay, Poole

All chrome and glass, nasty!

6 Jul 2006 14:33

The Poole Arms, Poole

Excellent traditional boozer. Still serving mixers in bottles and the beer's well kept.

6 Jul 2006 14:31

Spotted Cow, Poole

Been to this pub a few times now. It's a vast place on 2 floors and always seems to be fairly busy. Must be one of the cheapest pints on the quay and the punters reflect that, usually heaving on Tuesdays with the bikers on the quay. Usual Wetherspoons food (do wish they'd stop using oven chips) have had the steak a few times and it's pot luck if it's cooked as you asked for it. Well appointed with flat screens for sports fixtures. The gents on the ground floor are tiny for the size of pub, suggest you use the ones upstairs. Small outdoor seating area.

6 Jul 2006 14:29

The Lord Wimborne, Poole

Usual Wetherspoons fayre. Not the best clientelle in the world, but the ale is always good. Do wish they wouldn't use oven chips with everything

6 Jul 2006 14:19

The Bricklayers Arms, Poole

Has some decent ales, but they don't know how to keep them in tip top condition

6 Jul 2006 14:03

Goat and Tricycle, Bournemouth

What a credit to the area this pub is ! There are always several real ales on that are well kept and frequently change. As it's a Wadworth pub the usual Wadworth ales (6X etc) are permanent features.

Food here is excellent and represents value for money. The menu is varied and good and they now serve Sunday lunch. Let's hope they bring back the roast potatoes at closing time ! Always a welcome treat particularly in the winter months.

The pub itself boasts a great secluded beer garden and would benefit from more pub games. Whoever chose the colour of the decor wants shooting. The red and brown interior makes the pub very dark, even in the summer months.

Staff are always friendly and helpful. Although the music can be intrusive at times.

The Porterhouse, Westbourne

What an improvement since the old landlord, Tony went! This pub must be one of the finest in the area and is a gem of a real ale pub. The staff are friendly, real beer buffs and get to know what you drink after a few visits. As it's a Ringwood Brewery pub the full range of Ringwood is available along with a frequently changed guest ale. All the ales are meticulously kept and the OLD THUMPER is wonderful. It's good to see a real traditional oak panneled interior and the absence of TV's, music and fruit machines mean you feel the friendly atmosphere as soon as you walk in. Food is back on the menu with an extensive bar snack menu and a daily special. If there has to be any improvement at all, more comfortable chairs might be an idea. This pub is quite rightly accredited with the Cask Mark and several CAMRA awards. All in all it's A1+

5 Jul 2006 18:44

Dean Park Inn, Bournemouth

Good food, good atmosphere and real ale.

3 Jul 2006 03:23

The Sir Percy Florence Shelley, Boscombe

No improvement I'm afraid. A mix of the dregs of Boscombe society, poor food and lousy service. It's only saving grace is the real ale

3 Jul 2006 03:20

The Inn on the Furlong, Ringwood

Stopped at this pub a few times now and it's always good to go back. Being a Ringwood pub it serves the full range of Ringwood Ales including the wonderful OLD THUMPER strong ale.
Staff will ask you to stand clear of the bar if you're there when the dray arrives as the cellar hatch is right in front of it!
Make a point of trying the reasonably priced menu. I've had it twice and it represents good value (lets hope it stays like it). The last time I was even accomodated after food service had finished.
The interior is curiously laid out and doesn't seem the best use of the space, but has bags of atmosphere.
The staff all seem to share the passion of a 'real' pub, this is one not to miss if you're in the area. Best of all no fruit machines, loud music or TV!

3 Jul 2006 02:57

The Old Beams Inn, Ringwood

A few years back this was a family run pub that took a great deal of pride in quality of food and value. You could always be assured of a decent meal, excellent service and a good pint of real ale. What a difference in those few years! The interior of the thatched pub has been modernised and has only suceeded in losing its charm and atmosphere. The bar has been moved, the only character remaining is the open fire, centrally positioned. All except 2 real ales were off and it only took a glance at the prices on the menu to ensure the car engine roared back into life.
