The Poacher, Acomb

Directly opposite the Post office, which makes it ideal on Giro day.

29 Dec 2005 17:03

The Bay Horse, York

Used to be a good friendly local about 8 years ago, now it's a place for the SERIOUS drinker.

29 Dec 2005 16:56

The Britannia Inn, Acomb

You know that bar in the film Star Wars, well.....

Good juke box though.

28 Dec 2005 18:31

The Sun Inn, Acomb

A lot of hard work has gone into this pub on the village green. Chav free zone that does good food, excellent beer and friendly staff. a few tellys are around the bar for sports and the old boys will always have a chat with you. Top boozer.

28 Dec 2005 18:30

The Pack of Cards, Acomb

oh dear, not advised to outsiders.

28 Dec 2005 18:29

The Gillygate, York

Eric from Thomas's has just bought this gaff and i reckon it will be more his thing. Food is back on and he has an excellent assistant manager in dave. Could be restored to former glories in no time. Good luck Eric :)

28 Dec 2005 18:12

The Cross Keys Hotel, York

Very popular with students & alcoholics.

28 Dec 2005 18:10

Coopers, York

Always good for an "off" with other like minded football fans on a saturday tea-time.

28 Dec 2005 18:09

The Carlton Tavern, York

Dress code is tracksuit and chav cap. NO exceptions !

28 Dec 2005 18:08

The Bootham Tavern, York

plenty of railway workers in here make it a good place for people with a good sense of humour and a love of footie & rugby.

28 Dec 2005 18:07

The Artful Dodger, York

The last time this place was anygood was when the guy from Grimsby & his wife had it back in 98/99, used to get well busy for the 3 hour daily happy hour, nowadays just smells like a bad day at a fart factory.

28 Dec 2005 18:05

The Standard, Brighton

I've been in here once, about two tuesdays ago and i congratulated the manager on employing disabled people in his bar, afterall, with the racket that the *dj* was making he had to be deaf.

26 Dec 2005 10:55

The Acomb, Acomb

You take your life in your hands stepping in here.

24 Dec 2005 21:28

The Ainsty, York

Big pub that backs onto a dodgy council estate. Friday can get a bit lively.

8 Nov 2005 21:55

Yates's, Leeds

Been done out again, or rather it's been painted white and they've moved the dj booth. Beers ok, service quick, but you can't help wondering when a fight will break out.

8 Nov 2005 21:53

The Townhouse, Leeds

Full of bum-hole retentive weekend millionaires from Bramley.

8 Nov 2005 21:51

Edwards Bar, Leeds

Not one of Edwards best.

8 Nov 2005 21:49

The Pickwick Inn, Scarborough

Miserable staff in a "stuck in the 70's" decored slophouse.

8 Nov 2005 21:47

The Newcastle Packet Inn, Scarborough

It's not that bad, a few dodgy fishermen will eye you up when you walk in, but stand your ground and you'll be fine, just don't beat them at pool !!!

8 Nov 2005 21:46

The Terrace, York

A very bad move to refurb this and go for the trendy crowd, it's in the wrong place for that clientele. Used to be The Northern Wall and had a lot of regulars, not all of them nice, but it was a proftable pub, now you never see anyone in it after 9:00 midweek and weekends it's usually shut by half ten.
A very bad idea that sums up why the owners ( the Exhibition Group) are now bankrupt, they lost touch with the punters.

8 Nov 2005 21:42

Ye Olde Starre Inn, York

Picked up again after a few years in the doldrums.

8 Nov 2005 21:39

Yates's, York

It's a Yates's, but it aint a bad Yates's.

8 Nov 2005 21:39

The Windmill, York

Needs a good clean out, especially the pipes !
Popular when Football is on, but has faltered a bit since the replaced the massive drop-down screen with a few plasmas here and there. As a pub it's functional but then so is a visit to the toilet.

8 Nov 2005 21:38

The Waggon and Horses, York

Shame. Yet another York pub with the familiar "Pub to Let" sign outside. Decor is like something from a sixties terraced house and smells like one as well. Opens sporadically and really can't see this being anything other than flats in 6 months time.
4 years ago this place was a cracking little boozer with a great turnover, shows how things can change.

8 Nov 2005 21:35

The Three Cranes Inn, York

iffy.

8 Nov 2005 21:33

Thomas's Bar, York

Getting better in the last 8 months or so, getting more people in and the beer is far better than it has been in a long time.

8 Nov 2005 21:32

The Stone Roses Bar, York

Great idea for a bar, but the people who run it have no idea, can't see them hanging on to it much longer, either the brewery or the police will relieve the current management of their license. Shame as it has much potential.

8 Nov 2005 21:31

The Spread Eagle, York

Lost it BIGTIME, never see anybody in the place anytime.

8 Nov 2005 21:29

The Snickleway Inn, York

Still a great pub full of old characters who will happily chat away to anyone. frank the landlord is a legend, the way he barks at the young bar staff has me in stitches !!!

8 Nov 2005 21:29

The Royal Oak, York

Gone right down hill, smells like it needs a good clean. Below comment is right about the glasses.

8 Nov 2005 21:28

The Rose and Crown, York

Ok pub, bar staff can sometimes be too busy talking to their student mates to serve you, but apart from that it's ok.

8 Nov 2005 21:27

The Roman Bath, York

Carefull in here on an afternoon, some very dodgy giro abusers frequent the place.

8 Nov 2005 21:25

The Red Lion, York

Prices can hurt a bit, but it's one of the most traditional boozers in the city centre. Always busy for quiz night and knobhead free on weekends, Guinness is good but bottled beers can be a bit warm.

8 Nov 2005 21:24

The Punchbowl, York

Dreadfull place, bar staff stand at end of bar smoking and make you feel as if they are doing you a favour by serving you ! Beer is usually warm, carpet sticks to your feet and the toilets are usually flooded. This used to be a great pub until Weatherspoons took over, they made no changes to the place except rip out the tellys and the background music !!!

8 Nov 2005 21:23

The Priory, York

Another Micklegate pub that has seen much better days.

8 Nov 2005 21:21

Oscars Wine Bar, York

Legend of a place. Outstanding food, great jugs of Pimms and nice eye-candy. Can get a bit pretentious but let it ride over you and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere.

8 Nov 2005 21:20

The Old White Swan, York

Large pub with 3 bars and a food hatch, has a lot going on during the week and gets busy at the weekend.

8 Nov 2005 21:19

O'Neills, York

Never felt comfortable in here, the staff and especially the landlord don't make you feel welcome at all, the beer is just ok and god help you if you don't support Celtic when the footie is on.

8 Nov 2005 21:18

Nexus, York

A large space with a bar. That is all.

8 Nov 2005 21:16

The Nags Head, York

Not bad really, can get very busy but the atmosphere is fine, even on racenights.

8 Nov 2005 21:16

The Micklegate, York

The toilets we're where i spent most of the night after just 2 pints in here. On the way down and up for let, avoid until it's been refurbished.

8 Nov 2005 21:15

McMillans, York

It's a lot better than it was, more spacious and not as tacky.

8 Nov 2005 21:14

The Little John Inn, York

Still open, though i don't know how.

8 Nov 2005 21:12

The Independent, York

Oh dear, how did it come to this ? Was once a very busy just outta town pub that had it's function room used almost nightly, also had a great attendance from the nurses over the road at the district hospital, now the only people it sees from the hospital are the ambulance crew picking up the pieces from the pool room :(

8 Nov 2005 21:11

The Hole in the Wall, York

Bar staff will put sport on the telly but with no sound as this "causes trouble" eh ? A pub that was at it's peak around 5 years ago, but with new owners came a sharp downturn in fortune, not busy and not recommended.

8 Nov 2005 21:09

Harkers, York

Even in the afternoon of a hot summers day in July this place still feels cold. No atmosphere in here even on a busy saturday night and the bottled beers are warm. nil points.

8 Nov 2005 21:07

The Hansom Cab, York

Houses some very interesting characters in the afternoon. Cheap ale and cheap women !

8 Nov 2005 21:06

The Golden Lion, York

Good beer, good staff & good food. A real pub in the city centre that always has a good smattering of punters in the place. Nice one :)

8 Nov 2005 21:05

The Golden Fleece, York

Has the smell of somewhere unloved & uncared for. A pub interested in the daytime trade of tourists ONLY.

8 Nov 2005 21:03

The Fox, York

The new Management have done a lot with this pub, somewhere that has always had potential which has now been reached. Seems decades since grumpy had it with no music or entertainment. Good Pub with something for everyone.

8 Nov 2005 21:02

Flares, York

Horrid 70's theme bar full of chavs on 2 for 1 alcopops. Felt as if my ears had been raped when i came out.

8 Nov 2005 21:00

The First Hussar, York

Currently adorned with "Pub to let" signs. Has hardly any punters these days apart from one or two spiky haired Alex Parks lookalikes.

8 Nov 2005 20:59

The Capital, York

Cold, atmosphere free expensive *space*.

8 Nov 2005 20:56

The Black Bull, York

Very local type of pub, and they're not the most friendly of locals in Tang Hall.

8 Nov 2005 20:55

The Bedroom, York

Being run down at the moment, supposed to be re-opening as Coyote Bar or sommat, won't matter, The whole Micklegate scene is pretty much dead now anyway.
