The Dog and Bell, Deptford

This is a really great little pub. They take care of a decent selection of ales, Sharpes and Alton Pride spring to mind from last night. The food was really good, actual food, not freezer rubbish for about 6 quid a plate and they even had a few nice open bottles of wine. I don't know what else you want.. bar billiards, yep, that too.

Trafalgar Tavern, Greenwich

Rubbish beer. Great place to go to feed your pitbull vodka & coke. Useful in that it catches most of the dodgy trade that would otherwise ruin the Yacht down the road.

The Yacht, Greenwich

A year ago I was dithering over which was better of the Yacht and the Cutty Sark and the Yacht now has it hands-down. The only reason to go to the Cutty Sark is to sit on the wall in the sun. If you want decent ale or a nice glass of red wine go to the yacht. The Cutty Sark fails on both counts with dodgy pipes and expensive dishwater.

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

hmm, I live right next to this pub and it certainly used to be my favourite, hands down. I find now that I am torn between it and the Yacht down the road. Yacht is getting better beer than it used to and is rapidly taking the local trade (decent beers, attention to wine), cutty seems to have bar staff that are a bit too cool for school (i.e. wait for an in with the conversation to dare to ask for a drink) and things like crazy bright lights make sitting upstairs a bit rubbish unless you are lucky enough to get the window seat. Nevertheless the beer is good and the outside wall excellent on a sunny day.

The Rose and Crown, Upper Farringdon

Excellent pub. Great big open fire and a load of well kept ales. Alton Pride was superb. Extremely warm welcome from the landlord/lady. Would recommend it unreservedly.

The Yacht, Greenwich

ok, as an update to my last review, the more expensive but generally much better Cutty Sark down the road now has the black sheep back again. Hence Cutty Sark now has it hands-down for me.

The Cherub Inn, Dartmouth

This pub is simply excellent, several decent ales always on and pipes taste clean. Friendly bar staff and very patient locals. Always busy but turnover with the restaurant is fast and so seats pop up readily.

The French Horn, Alton

this pub is an old Alton favourite and it is really good to see the new management making such a good go of it. Excellent selection of Ales, taps go on for about a meter and a half along the bar. Get in early to grab a place by the fire rather than have to get shoved round into the restauranty area.

The Blackfriar, Blackfriars

ok, I feel that I should slightly update my initial unmitigatedly enthusiastic review. Since my first visit I have been in a few times for a pie and a pint and I think it is now 50-50 as to whether there is a decent beer on, whether the bar staff know about it if there is and whether or not the pie is hot in the middle. I think it is mostly good.

The Cock and Woolpack, City Of London

I wonder in there pretty regularly to meet friends after work, nice and close to Bank Stn. Always busy @ 18.30, less so at 19.30. Beer is decent, good spitfire.

The Three Stags, Lambeth

not a bad pub, decent eclectic mix of people and the trip & abbots were pretty decent.

The Greenwich Union, Greenwich

Excellent little pub with a really friendly cosy atmosphere and cheerful staff who seem happy to let you try all of their interesting home brew. Will go back for an easy going night.

The Yacht, Greenwich

nice beer selection, i think better than the cutty sark down the road, also less expensive. Not as nice a pub to sit in though, less atmosphere, more chainy.. Nice view of the river if you get a good table.

The Pillars of Hercules, Soho

nice little (camp soho) pub. Excellent ale, Broadside olde was well worth a few rounds.

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham

nice pint ("trip"), excellent cosy places to sit upstairs. Touristy yes but well worth a stop if in the area.

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

I am a local regular, yes it is expensive and yes it can get a bit busy some nights but basically it is a decent pub, the ale is good and it is where i choose to go for a pint. On winter week night evenings it is an excellent cosy pub.
