The White Knight, Pound Hill

This pub is an absolute dump!

The Hope, Carshalton

Lovely pub, great beer, great people. Well done Roger, Rowan and the team!
Cheers!

The Wheatsheaf, Plummers Plain

Nice pub and atmosphere etc. No local ales though!! There's a micro brewery just down the lane but they never have their beers on the bar. Shame:(

The Royal Oak, Rusper

Oh, been reminded that it's the 2013 Good Beer Guide they've been excluded from. Same ending though; still an unfriendly and feudal pub!

The Royal Oak, Rusper

What a shame this formerly wonderful pub is run by a bigoted landlady who seems 'hellbent' on doing battle with CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale). All because a democratic vote excluded them from the Good Beer Guide 2012.
Unfortunately the warm welcome has gone, so too the beer quality and choice! Nothing from local breweries in Horsham for example. Would definitely not recommend. Indeed, the Royal Oak should be re-named the 'Slaughtered Lamb'...STAY AWAY!!!!

The Red Lion, Handcross

Hmm, they keep Tweeting... cheap Champagne & great food?
If they tweeted ' great local real ale on the bar' they'd be mobbed!!!
A sad pub right now, bit of a shame really.

The Lamb, Rusper

Visited the Lamb on a warm summer's afternoon. What a great country Free House...hurrah!
The food we had there was excellent. The beers were 'top notch' too. It's so good to know the Lamb is still the only decent pub for miles & miles!!

31 Jul 2011 18:13

The Cherry Tree Inn, Faygate

Now a Hall & Woodhouse pub. It's a shame this pubco continues to deprive the Horsham area of local ales and locally sourced produce too.

31 Jul 2011 18:03

The Plough & Attic Rooms, Rusper

What a massive disappointment this pub has become. Boring interior, detatched and uninterested staff, and the beer...Doombar!!
With so many breweries locally one wonders what on earth is going on!!
Is this a genuine Free House? We think's not!!

31 Jul 2011 17:54

The Dragon, Colgate

Visited this potentially beautiful pub on a Saturday lunchtime. What a shame that Hall & Woodhouse have acquired this pub too. Sadly the same old list beers on offer.
Badgers, Firkin Fox...urgggh!!!

24 Jul 2011 12:31

The Greyhound, Tinsley Green

The Greyhound has truly lost it now. No real ales, certainly nothing from local breweries. The food is poor, the service is even poorer. Now blessed with the Crawley News title one of the 10 worst places to eat in the area.
Not a chance of another visit!!!

Windmill, Gossops Green

Crumbs! John Smiths & Fosters. Can't wait to pay a visit!

12 Mar 2011 21:14

The Royal Oak, Wineham

I'm a bit of a traditionalist really in terms of what an English pub should be. OK, the welcome was warm, the food substantial, but the beer...bland!Nothing from known local micro breweries which is a shame. We're hoping something exciting happens in the summer. We'll vist on emore time maybe.

12 Mar 2011 21:08

The Royal Oak, Handcross

Nice food, lovely enterior, bit of a shame about the beers. Nothing local, but guessing this may not be a freehouse.

12 Mar 2011 20:56

The Hare and Hounds, Cowfold

What a lovely little pub.
Nice food and beers from local Kissingate brewery.
Landlady very friendly.
Must go back there soon.

12 Mar 2011 20:53

The Red Lion, Handcross

Oh dear, after reading the previous post regarding Doombar!!!
Not really a local ale. Shame the Red Lion is not a free house.
Bland beers from a tied list presumably? Shame...

12 Mar 2011 20:48

The Half Moon, Warninglid

Looks good from the outside. Neat and contrived decor on the inside. Reasonable food but over priced. Beer was uninspiring, nothing from local breweries. Shame!

The Royal Oak, Rusper

Without doubt, The Royal Oak is a gorgeous little pub in a quiet and hidden corner of England. It's where you can find proper ales made by small independent breweries. It's where you can find real (cloudy) cider. There's no EuroFizz or' foodie' prententious menus. There's always someone to chat with, sometimes there's even a lively and honest debate going on! Of course, there are plenty of pubs in the locality that cater for those who want to keep themselves to themselves, drink bland beers and lagers made by faceless giants. Thankfully the Royal Oak thinks deeply about all of this, and stays true to the values of a genuine English free house.
Hats off to Sara & Clive!

The Hillside Inn, Crawley

Nice food, service & atmosphere. A real shame that this is yet another pub masquerading as a free house but clearly it's not. No local ales on the bar. A rather bland selection from thier tied list.

20 Feb 2011 20:32

The Frogshole Farm, Maidenbower

Lovely food and good service. However, kids running about everywhere, often loitering at the bar!
No local real ales, says free house, but obviously not.

20 Feb 2011 20:25

The Cowdray Arms, Balcombe

Oh dear! The Cowdray has become a bit foodie & pretentious. Says everything sourced locally, but no local ales to be found. A real shame!

20 Feb 2011 19:58

The Gate, Ifield

Nice looking pub, but yet another a souless Hall & Woodhouse establishment. Sadly no beers from local micro breweries. There's a much better pub just down the road!

20 Feb 2011 19:00

The Owl, Kingsfold

What an amazing transformation!
The Owl has become a warm & friendly country pub.
Fantastic food and well worth a trip out to Kingsfold
Looking forward to some more real ales though...
Well done Nigel & Jean.

3 Feb 2011 21:01

The Royal Oak, Rusper

An absolutely stonkin' good country pub. Great food, proper beer (no EuroFizz).
Sara & Clive do a fantastic job. Thanks!

3 Feb 2011 20:54

The BreweryShades, Crawley

Unfortunately, the Shades has lost it's character over the years. Needs a little cheering up and some new and interesting beers!!!!

3 Feb 2011 20:49

Life Bar 1, Three Bridges

Quite simply...DREADFUL!

11 May 2010 04:31

The Duke of Cumberland, Henley

My wife and I visited this beautiful little pub on a midweek lunchtime. We had a lovely haddock (whale!) & chips. The beer was nice and interestingly not served from a beer engine, so really traditional and all that. However, shame about lager /eurofizz being sold from pressure taps.
OK, it's all a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for... Great food, great beer, friendly attentive staff, and a lovely West Sussex setting.
This is England & Englishness at it's best! Long may it live.

9 May 2010 22:19

The Swan, West Green

OK, it has to be said that the Swan is now the best Crawley Town pub by miles!
Real ale, real people and no butternut squash to be seen anywhere.
Even more amazing is the appearance of beers from a new Crawley brewery (Kissingate). I tried their Porter, and it was fabulous. There are other beers from Kissingate coming soon...can't wait!!
What an Aladdin's cave for real ale lovers, hurray!
