The Malt Shovel, Coventry

It has been shut down for several months - apparently due to debts owed to bank !

Hearsall Inn, Coventry

has started selling real ales which are cheap ( for this area) at 2.20 but trouble is the quality is not very good.

The Malt Shovel, Coventry

place is up for sale so obviously they are not attracting anyone to drink here.

The Beer Engine, Coventry

visited on Saturday after a long interval . A good choice of 6 real ales which were in good condition and resonably priced .Live music added to it being a great night out.

The City Arms, Coventry

DONT be put off by cardinals comments. This Is a Wetherspoons but they have a great range of real ales
which are usually well kept and the price is right!
It can be a bit raucous at weekends but there are plenty of down to earth regulars who come here to enjoy their ale and wont hassle you!

The Old Joint Stock, Birmingham

The Albany, Earlsdon

The Royal Oak, Earlsdon

Nothings changed apart from the wall paper! Same chattering class customers smoking like chimneys.Beer is just as average as before.Still, good to see Ray rushing around emptying ashtrays -suppose he needs the exercise after his 6 month "holiday"

The Nursery Tavern, Coventry

i agree Bolshi. This pub has been doing downhill for a few months. The beer is poorly looked after ,making it flat and uninteresting. The prices are high and the quality is low. They have now taken to using the drip tray slops in your pint if you are not watching.i told them and got a fresh one. What amazes me is that the local CAMRA brigade still flock here and sing its praises. Why?

The Black Horse Inn, Spon End

new owners to have ruined a good pub.lounge has been painted all white including the wooden panelling ;looks like a clinic!Beer quality also seems poorer .Bass was passable but nothing to get excited about. Most of old regulars seem to have moved on to pastures new.

no brummie i am a midlands ale quaffer of many years standing.who told you beer should be warm??I was referring to the quality of the product and how it is kept not to generalisations which you seem to deal in.

The Albany, Earlsdon

Visited it both before and after the Cov Rugby game on Sat pm.(Very handy for the new Butts stadium)
The Burton ale was excellant ,the Pedigree good and Jennings Sneck Lifter was excellant -my friends tell me.Good atmosphere and pleasing suroundings. It also sells meals.
Well worth a visit!

The Craven Arms, Coventry

Re last comments. Only 1 choice of guest ale which tasted poor as did the Flowers bitter.Loads of young kids around the pool table.Expensive considering the dowdy surroundings (despite walls being painted bright white!) Not an uplifting experience .

10 Apr 2005 17:59

The Maudsley, Coventry

Small choice of real ale . Quality variable but cheap

11 Feb 2005 17:03

The Nursery Tavern, Coventry

well chris i agree about the quantity but quality???
every pint of ale seems to be flat & very often "hazy" (as the barmaid is fond of saying).
