The Wheatsheaf, Ealing

Shame they revamp'd this local. It was just fine the way it was. Fullers make great ales but they ain't got a clue when it comes to pub "restoration" and re-design. Their beer remains brill. Why can't their pubs?

Plough, Alperton

"grotty" is definitely the word. However, loved dropping in to this pub on the way to work (at the truly dismal F&G down the road) for a fortifying pint or two of Guinness. Also spent a bit of time chatting up local and aussie chicks while playing pool of an evening at the Plough, which bcame my local as was not allowed to drink at my place of work. The scot publican who was there when I used to drink there was a great bloke and great to talk to, but glenn, who I also met, was an absolute tossser.

The Black Rabbit, Offham

They killed this pub when they re-vamp'd it back in 03-ish. Prior to that it was divine. A pint of tasty Black Rabbit ale on a clear autumn day by the river was one of my first memorable English ale experiences. Now it is just a tourist-y nightmare. Why?: make lots of coin by ripping off summer tourists. The castle is an awesome place to visit, and as an aussie I must admit to being an avid tourist myself, but after coming back to the BR after the refurb I was not impressed. Sorry to repeat myself, labour the point. It was an eight, now its half that.

The Running Horse, Mayfair

Love this pub! Have a fortifying pint of Courage (aptly named) before you go shopping (in Ox St) in the morning when it is almost completely empty. Come back after the lunch-time rush for another pint or two after shopping and play pool on the microscopic table upstairs.

The Fountain, Ashurst

The perfect antidote to a hard-days-slog at the "BF" in ashington where I used to work (and a truely diabolical pub, by the way), the Fountain is a haven, with good food, good service and fantastic bevvies. There's never been a queue when I've been there, but I was usually working weekends at the BF where there was most certainly a queue-out-the-door of knob-jockeys on a Sunday and even prior to opening! (Get a life you R-tards). The Fountain remains my fave pub in W Sussex. If there's a queue there then it is well deserved. Either get in line and STFU, or go to the kebab shop in Ashington, which is in my opinon, bliss!
