The Coach Inn, Shrewsbury

Firstly-every wall, door, ceiling has an England flag on to remind you of what country you're in and secondly, you know when you see those people with no teeth really drunk in town centres and wonder where they spend their days? Wonder no more, it's a place just like this. Absoloutely no point whatsoever going into this pub, unless you like freakshows

The Old Angel Inn, Nottingham

I went to this pub for the 1st time ever yesterday, it's great. Friendly staff and punters, went and saw the live band upstairs and had a tiop time. The toilets are grim but who cares, i don't go anywhere for the bogs, Definitely worth going to if you like a good punk/rock/billy pub.

The Plough Inn, St Asaph

Dissappointed with this place. Had read a review in a guide book saying that the food was amazing so after a day out in the countryside we made sure we visited. Just walking in i thought it may not be all i was hoping for when i saw the huge great 'Sky Sports' banners. Once inside we were told that the resteraunt was closed but the food was still avaiable and the would be the same menu. Well, the food was pretty poor, barely average pub food but with a high price, all served in front of a great big screen showing the football.. i think that perhaps the oub had just changed hands as ther was a sign on the door about a dress code but people were wandering around in shorts and vests. Overall, good as pub, crap to eat in though.

Good pub. friendly locals all having it on the kareoke, really fun atmosphere. Possibly not to everyones taste but a proper pub with real people. Bar staff were great too.

The Thornhill Arms, Islington

Gutted!!! Went in this pub the other Saturday and despite the good looking local boozer appearance on the outside it is yet another identikit pub with a gastro type interior, candles and mindless commercial house being pumped out loudly. The most unbelievable part was last orders being called........at 10pm!!!!!! Luckely, there was only about 6 people in there, which is all you need to know about a pub 5 mins from Kings X on a Saturday night.

The Rising Sun, Tottenham Court Road

Went to this pub for the first time in years on Saturday afternoon after taking advantage of the Zavi sale. The 2 barmaids were the sort that continued their conversation whilst serving, though when i got my Kronenburg it was lovely. However, my girlfriend and i decided to order a 'plate' of chips. When they arrived i thought it was a joke. I have never seen such a small amount of chips, served on a saucer, no more than about 20 chips! You would expect a toddler to still feel hungry after eating them, all for 1.80. And they were soggy.

Nambucca, Upper Holloway

I live near here and it used to be a cool pub that you could go in and see a decent live band with people who were more into music than wearing a silly hat. Now its frequented by boys who think that wearing shades outside the pub at midnight is cool (may look good if your a pop star on stage, you just look like a nob on the Holloway Road in the dark) and girls that drunkenly run across the road to Dominos to get their pizza to throw up. The people that run this would love to make it as cliquey and narrow as places like The Boogaloo/The Hawley Arms and if that's your thing, then fair enough. If however you don't want to be surrounded by wanna be Pete and Amys and want something different there are plenty of pubs around that offer a true alternative, The Gaff being just one.

The Intrepid Fox, St Giles

Gotta say, i like it. Yeah, it hasn't got the same vibe as the old place, but in some ways, thats not all bad. I first went to the old Fox in '86 when it was nothing special and watched it grow into a really cool pub. Unfortunately, it went through a silly period with 'dress rules'(funny how these freedom/alternitive types are so into being different as long as its within the rules!) and although i could always get in because of the way i looked, some of my mates who had changed their look as time went by sometimes couldn't, which put a dampner on some evenings. The new place is open to all and is a loud gothy/rocky pub with reasonable priced beer and friendly staff. Whenever anything changes or moves forward a certain percentage of people will say its not as good. I dunno if its better or worse, its just different. Definitely worth going to if in central London, certainly better than all the Lloyds Bars/Wetherspoons/All Bar Ones that dominate the area.

The Rose and Thistle, Frimley Green

Friendly staff and customers, no comments about my dress sense with good beer on tap (Grolsch and Leffe, can't go wrong!). You can normally judge a pub by the toilets and they were very clean and tidy. would definitely go to this pub again if in the area.Nice one.

The Old Kings Head, Holloway

As with what mr.toes.5_ said, went past last Saturday and the pub has been repainted on the outside like it used to be, though still not open. Also, the people standing outside were the people who used to run it, so it appears that a good pub is coming back!!! Weird that it changed so suddenly, anyone know why and why is it changing back?

The Devonshire Arms, Camden

Psychonaut - your right, i have no idea why it changed ownership, and i never said i did.
Also, i said i 'see' it is now called the Hobgoblin, which is what it does say in big writing on the outside. As i said i wasn't allowed in last time i went (2 years ago) so how would i know what it said above the door 2 weeks ago?
As for my attitude, if walking up to a pub door constitutes attitude, i should be banned from everywhere. However, the Dev/Hob was the last place i ever got kicked out of.
The reason i said it had dissappeared up its own backside was because a pub that i had been in about 10 times a year since the 80's suddenly won't serve me cos its to cool/i'm not cool enough.......what should i think?
I never slagged the set up of the pub, music, drinks or customers, who are some of the better Camden pub people, just the policy.
So, if someone who isn't as easily offended as Psychonaut could answer me, is it less elitest/prejudice now.

The Devonshire Arms, Camden

i used to go to this pub in the 80's/90's and it was always a pretty good pub, gradually getting more goth as the years passed by. What got me about 2 years ago was that i wasn't allowed in due to the fact i had a pair of trainers on!! I was a punk in my teens,20's and 30's, when i used to get strange looks of the staff of the Dev and not served in alot of pubs because of the way i looked, as well as a continual threat of violence. I truely resented not being served by some uber goth in a little bit of eyeliner and white make up because i obviously can't like that scene because i don't dress like a nob. I see it's now called the Hobgoblin, is it less elitest/prejudice now? It's a shame when somewhere that was cool dissappears up it's own backside

The Swimmer at The Grafton Arms, Holloway

Great pub, if a little on the pricey side. Can't agree about the bar staff, really friendly as is the landlord.Good selection of tunes on the Jukebox too.

The Unicorn, Kentish Town

Went here for the first time on Saturday as The Old Kings Head is now dead and i must say what a top pub. Clean, friendly and, live bands and fair priced. Well worth going to.

Hers an idea, take a pub thats a bit different and turn it into another moronic pub. Was great now not.Aviod unless your a brain dead gooner

18 Feb 2008 15:24

The Hawley Arms, Camden

The rating from Daniel North says about all you need to know about the pretentious, self important fools that used to drink here and will probably flock back once reopened only to say"oh, it,s not as good as it used to be". Well, it hasn't been good for years, the main problem being the to cool for school brigade that drank and served there.Over priced and over hyped. Good points: the fire, bad points:now all the oafs will try and ruin another good LOCALS pub

18 Feb 2008 15:21

Ye Olde White Hart, Frimley

If you had to invent a small town pub for small town people, this would be it. I used to live round this way and popped in a couple of weeks ago for the first time in 11 years and still the same people! The no hope of the locals is reflected by the bar staff. Avoid!
