Old Ship Inn, Cadmore End

This pub is currently "closed for refurbishment" - called in 2 days ago and no signs of life at all, so worth calling beforehand

Holly Bush Inn, Priors Marston

Called in for dinner last night. Peter, the manager, looked after us very well and we were served a superb fish platter to start. The tuna was equally as good, although the potato salad never arrived with it, which was disappointing. However, they deducted the cost of one of the main meals off the bill, which certainly made up for it. Warm welcome and friendly staff, run by a chap who also has a sister pub in Farthinghoe - on the evidence of this, his other pub deserves a look-in too!

Old Mint, Southam

Called in for lunch yesterday though we arrived 10 mins after their chef left. Ben, the new landlord, kindly agreed to do us sandwiches or hot snacks, which was more than welcome, as were the Purity ales. Warm welcome and friendly staff, Ben and his team deserve to do well there!

The Plough, Upper Dicker

Very friendly, attentive and welcoming staff, fabulous food, huge garden for our and our friends' children to run around and play in, great selection of drinks (beers, lagers, wines, spirits AND coffees) and a well attended pub quiz on the Tuesday we were there. Seems to be a general feeling of bonhomie about the place - well done Shepherd Neame and especially the landlord and his staff, both front and back of house.

Rose and Crown Hotel, Wensleydale

We had the misfortune to stay here overnight, which involved us sampling the microwaved, tasteless evening meal (we only had a starter as it was so bad), the bland breakfast and the awful service from the rudest hotelier in the country. The drinks selection is decidedly mediocre.

Chequers, Houghton Regis

Had lunch there today - great value (a tenner for 2 good meals and 2 pints), friendly service with a smile, from both barmaid and server, and warm, clean, friendly pub. A very good experience all round.

Swan, Chesham

We are lucky enough to live round the corner from this pub, as it really is excellent. Just last weekend I had the nicest meal I've eaten in a good few years - wonderful sea bass in a superb sauce which complimented the fish perfectly. Yes more expensive than other pub food but the food here is second to none. Staff are all friendly too.

The Cock and Rabbit, Great Missenden

Just been for lunch, pub badly needs sprucing up. I asked for a pint of lime and soda and had to ask them to fill it to the top, put some ice in and add a slice of lime. They charged me 2 for it as well! My first dish went straight back, I think it was off! They acted as though they take dishes back to the kitchen on a fairly regular basis. The pasta they brought me was distictly average. The toilet was fairly grubby too.
