The Courtfield, Earls Court

I think this low rating may relate to the early years (how long does a score count on this website?), when I went in in 2006 it was a fairly dire venue. All the comments written at that time ring true. That said it is in the 2010 Good Beer Guide and it is great to hear of a pub turning its self round.

Varsity, Bolton

Has just got real ale back and it was cheap and of a reasonable standard. Also has Setanta

The Royal Oak, Bolton

If you have not been in yet, to late, it has shut down and is now the Latino Lounge. An Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar!

The Figure of Eight, Birmingham

This is a decent Wetherspoons, compared to the overpriced low quality ale available that seems the signature of Broad Street, this is cheap and the real ale selection generally has a few good local ales.

Has made me rethink my attitude to Wetherspoon pubs!

The Crofters Arms, Bolton

This shoudl be a great pub, large population to support it, great location, historic building (parts of it are listed).

But...the hand pumps are permanently out of use, the toilets often are a disgrace, the managements are currently unfriendly. Can be so good, shame currently being run into the ground. No doubt another refurb a good new manager and once again they will try to crack the problem! PLEASE GET IT RIGHT, this should be a jewel in the crown for any pub estate - what a disappointment.

The House Without A Name, Bolton

Going from strength to strength, good solid choice of ales (one is still Dirty Holts though!). Locals are friendly enough, big plans for when the smoking ban kicks in I believe.

The Devonshire Arms, Coventry

Local pub, not great, major down side no real ale, there appears to be a band of poor quality pubs in Coventry who have neither the skill or inclination to keep a good pint of real ale (in fact any real ale at all).

Not bad for a swift one whilst waiting for one of the very good local takeaways prepare your order, would not recommend for much more. That said always busy so must be doing something right!

The Craven Arms, Walsgrave

This is a pub of two halves. It DOES show Sky Sports, which is rare for this part of Coventry close to the M6, but does not have Cask Ales.

Has some reasonably kept nitro-kegs and a bland selection of lagers, nothing different or stand out. States food served but no idea when.

Good darts board and area.

The locals fluctuate between interesting and a bit scary, but they let you be, the atmosphere over the football is also not electric.

Basically if you live in this part of North Coventry and can not be bothered getting a bus to watch the big matches go here, otherwise avoid! Pubs with better selection and quality in the area. (Even if not listed on BITE yet!)

The Richmond, Earls Court

This pub is now over half way through a conversion to a Wagamama's restaurant and will be opening as such over the next couple of weeks.

Never actually went in this pub, but walking past it a few times, it never dragged me in off the street.

O'Neills, Earls Court

I was in this pub last week, generally it is a very good O'Neill's but last week the Guinness was flat and not at all creamy (as if they had taken the sparkler out of the nossle) and the Disabled Toilets are a disgrace.

The Plum Tree, Holborn

This is a classic after work pub, not too cheap, nto hideously expensive, lots of quirky areas to sit in and friendly staff.

Downstairs bar, as well, and the food of an evening was nice, like everything here, not cheap, but also you do not feel ripped off. Unsure what it is like during the day, if you want to find it it is under the steps from Holborn Viaduct to Farringdon Street, opposite the City Raj

The Richmond, Earls Court

For the last few weeks this pub has been shut, unsure if this is a long term thing.

The Duke (of York), Holborn

I went there last week, admittedly just for a couple of pints on both occassions and am amazed by the comments regarding the staff, they were helpful and extremely chatty to me. Being away from home, having a pint to avoid the experience of your grotty hotel room, can be a depressing experience, but I left this pub feeling revived.

The House Without A Name, Bolton

This is a classic local pub, friendly and the increase in choice of real ales, is impressive, usually now at least 3 on, complimented by lager, Guinness and 2 nitro-kegs. One of the ales is still Holts dirty bitter, but you can't have perfection!

Re-opened under new management recently, who talk a good talk as to finishing the 2004 refurbishment that the old management lost heart in (only small daft things to do, but they do need doing!).

Comment to make has to be: No Name - No Comparison.
