Geordies Byre, Wallacetown

Regretfully this has gone down hill big time.
The grumpy old git that runs it has got worse in his attitude, and yet he is merely a barman.
Yesterday on our arrival, with our two pubdogs in training. He falsely accused of having the dogs out of control 15 seconds from entering.

He was extremely vocal and some what sectarian in his attitude..

Perhaps this could be the reason is for sale. some hat over priced at £220.000.

18 Aug 2014 13:45

Wellington's Bar, Ayr

Paid a return visit yesterday evening

My review is unchanged from last year.

although, this time we had our two pub dogs in training. Rosie the afternoon barlady not only gave us a jug of water for Mr & Mrs Woof, she also provided us with table service.

Hence why its CAMRA area pub of the year

18 Aug 2014 13:36

The Glenpark Hotel, Ayr

My review of May 2013 still stands the test of time.

The beer quality was superb. but an added bonus
our two pubdogs in training were welcomed w9ith open arms.

still to be recommended as one of AYRS leading ale houses

18 Aug 2014 13:28

The Regal Bar, Armadale

a serious sectarian bar. Landlord is an avid Rangers fan.

Don't use unless you are of his team. You will be refused service

19 Jul 2014 17:58

The Brass and Granite, Kilmarnock

Davie and Jamie are taking over big time as te best ale house in Killie.

Wetherspoons need to see this quality of service and top quality ale, AND TAKE HEED.

26 Nov 2013 22:05

Cheeky Charlies, Troon

Sorry to say its CLOSED

16 Aug 2013 14:53

Edward Wylie, Glasgow

This must be the best Spoons in Glasgow.
Friendly Manager, where nothing is too much trouble. On my last visit on a busy Saturday teatime, his worst nightmare happened. Two ale lines and two lagers blew out all at the same time.
As we were dining, I offered to wait until the ales had been changed. The NEW Duty female manager not only came and told us the two new ales were now on, but delivered them to our table.
This crew are to be thanked for there exceptional service, far above the average Spoons
Duncan the Dandy now ex Camperdown please note

12 Jun 2013 12:43

Crystal Palace, Glasgow

Called in on 1st June. WOW its 1000% improved....WHY

The so called female manager aka Little Miss Hitler has gone.

This Spoons is now run under responsible management.

12 Jun 2013 12:33

All Bar One, Glasgow

This pub lost its Cask Marque, TWO years ago due to the lack of real ale.
Pl ease amend your entry to read. "Alcopop NED.s pub

12 Jun 2013 12:28

Wheatsheaf, Kilmarnock

Walked past last night Saturday. usual NEDS. hanging around. Cat fight on the outdoor terrace, but bouncers just standing and laughing.

I will never use this pub again until they get in a proper management team.

The time was 9.35pm appx.

26 May 2013 15:00

Geordies Byre, Wallacetown

For me this is the best PUB in Ayr. A real traditional boozer. No kiddie alcopops. So a NED free zone. Up to FIVE ales available and dogs on lead welcome.

26 May 2013 12:58

The Newton Arms, Wallacetown

Nice wee pub. New owner, Now has TWO real ales, and dog friendly.

GIVE IT A TRY,

26 May 2013 12:53

West Kirk, Ayr

This one and The Wheatsheaf in Kilmarnock Must be the TWO worst pubs that Wetherspoons have in Scotland
Daytime its full of down and outs and the UB40 brigade.
By night mainly at the weekends full of drunken NED,s screaming swear words at each other

MY thoughts..........AVOID. USE ONE OF THE REAL PUBS INSTEAD.

26 May 2013 12:48

Wellington's Bar, Ayr

This is my favourite pub in Ayr.

Two ale pumps featuring various Scottish Micro brews.
A lovely lass behind the bar most evenings and makes your visit totally worthwhile.

Food is served for part of the day.

My big plus is that DUGS are most welcome with well behaved owners attached to their leads. Water for Mr Woof is the first service. And the beach for walkies is 200 yards away.

My dog gives a score of 10 woofs

26 May 2013 12:36

The Glenpark Hotel, Ayr

A hidden gem of an hotel bar.
The home of Ayr Brewing Company {ABC}.
90% of the ale is brewed on site. and is always in tip top condition. On my last visit BLACK SHEEP BITTER was the guest ale.

If Paul or Antony are on duty. You may get to view the brewery.

Please Note. They have quality acommadation and an excellent restaurant

26 May 2013 12:24

Ice, Nottingham

can anyone confirm if this was Jaceys Bar, and if so when did the name change. TVM.

4 Mar 2013 00:20

The Sloop Inn, St Ives

After our disgusting treatment at the Lifeboat, this was a great surprise.

Ale first class and doggy beer(water), arrived faster than British Rail.

VERY RECOMMENDED...........PLEASE TRY FOR YOURSELF

13 Feb 2013 13:49

Lifeboat Inn, St Ives

Very dissapointed, aslisted as children and dog friendly,
however last Sunday, was rudely kicked out by a rude female for bringing our fully Trained Pub Dog, into the premises.

Suggest that you update your website details and train your staff in the art of good manners

You are giving pubs a bad name, never mind your paymasters.

13 Feb 2013 13:44

The Golden Lion, St Ives

Nice pint, friendly Landlord, back by popular demand, yes back soon.

13 Feb 2013 13:36

Queens Hotel, St Ives

After my visit last Sunday lunchtime, I can agree with the previous reviews, unable to get lunch, as FULLY BOOKED OUT, and this is in the winter.

Cannot comment on the ales, as I settled for a soft drink.

Our Callum was made very wlcome, so 8 woofs of approval.

13 Feb 2013 13:32

The Western Hotel/Kettle and Wick, St Ives

Paid a visit at opening time last Sunday, beer well kept, but place let down by urgent repairs needed in the gents wc, ( bog seat still missing circa 2009).

Dog friendly pub

13 Feb 2013 13:26

Sheaf of Wheat, St Ives

Wow, what a hidden gem. Just enough off the beaten track to hide it from the "unwashed that frequent Wetherspoons"

Doggy friendly with morsals and water on tap, and for we humans, choice of excellent ales.

Please visit, you will not be let down.

Dog Owners Please note, Pooches in the bar only

13 Feb 2013 13:20

The Godolphin Arms, Marazion

Called in on Saturday, however the pub was rammed with a wedding, but still got quick and attentive service, The ale was top notch, and our dog received doggy treats and water without having to ask.

Further more, the Landlord made time for us, for a 5 minute chat, whilst ensuring everyone got served promptly.

From one Pub Landlord to another......excellent pub

Yet another DOG FRIENDLY

12 Feb 2013 20:27

Kings Arms, Marazion

The best view that I had was the bottom of my glass, as the ale was so perfect, it went in two gulps

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, WILL BE BE BACK

ALSO DOG FRIENDLY

12 Feb 2013 20:20

Fire Engine Inn, Marazion

Regarding the last reviewer, what a tosser.
Called in last Saturday night, and due to an earlier comment, the HSD had been put on..........excellent pint, and a laugh a minute Landlord, even though his trousers had shrunk in the wash

17 bus from PZ stops nearby, and its downhill to the next two village pubs.

DOG FRIENDLY PUBS THROUGHOUT MARIZON

12 Feb 2013 20:16

The Turks Head, Penzance

Called in last Saturday, quite late on, the lady who served our ale should be congratulated for pulling a perfect pint, however she went home before we were able to thank her properly.

Although the Landlord was prepaing to close up, he spent a good 15 minutes talking shop with us.

Our Callum scores it 10 woofs, for doggy friendly

A hidden gem that you, MUST TRY

12 Feb 2013 20:08

Navy Inn, Penzance

Called in last October, but only for an ale, the quality was so good we just had to go back last Saturday, and yes the standard is so high, that I suggested they apply for their Cask Marque

12 Feb 2013 19:52

Fountain Tavern, Penzance

This is a sad loss to PZ. Still boarded up 9.2.13

12 Feb 2013 19:45

The Longboat Hotel, Penzance

On our 3 visits over last weekend, the service and quality of both morning coffee and evening ale (choice of three), were tip top.
Our evening meal deal was excellent value and is commended to you the reader.

If I have got a gripe, its why my dog got table service with his water bowl, but had to fetch my own beer afterwards.

Callums woof score is 10

12 Feb 2013 16:49

The Yacht Inn, Penzance

In respect of Steevxpopes coment about breakfast..

The pub offers a CORNISH Breakfast,

Whitwe pudding is the norm for a Scottish breakfast

and
Black Pudding is associated with Yorkshire and Lancashire

From my expierence at the Yacht over 5 visits, all special requests are welcome, or as we say in Yorkshire, "just open your gob and AAAAAAASSSSSSKKKKK"

Or send an E mail if the wifes listening

12 Feb 2013 16:01

The Yacht Inn, Penzance

Just got back from a weekend stay, here.

My two previous revues state my case, and as a PUB LANDLORD, my praise has to be earned, and our pub dog gives it 9 woofs approval..

Back in October Mark, and you owe me a pint for this.....HINT....LOL

11 Feb 2013 21:45

Tremenheere, Penzance

Typical Spoons, WALK AWAY

11 Feb 2013 21:36

The First and Last, Penzance

Paid a visit last Saturday night, nice and quiet, and none of the Wetherspoons riff raff to be seen, both ales on offer were in perfect condition, This place is so safe your granny could sit on her own, without fear.

Another dog friendly pub in PZ

11 Feb 2013 21:31

The Dolphin, Penzance

Sad to find it closed for a refit, last visit in October, all ales in excellent condition and its dog friendly

The Alexandra, Penzance

Paid a visit 3 times over the weekend, what a pub, the Landlady could not do enough albeit due to the winter season she had only two ales available from Sharps and Skinners, both were in excellent condition,

If in Penzance, then this is a MUST VISIT

and its pooch friendly, with biscuists and water on tap.

PLEASE VISIT

11 Feb 2013 21:12

The Brass and Granite, Kilmarnock

oy review in 2010, remains unchanged, staff 100% superior, to Tim Martins apology for a pub at the other end of the town.

21 Dec 2012 17:37

The Village Inn, Dunlop

Well worth the train ride from either Glasgow or Kilmarnock, hidden gem with one real ale in tiptop condition, and its dog friendly, with well behaved owners.

21 Dec 2012 17:31

The Tudor Inn, Kilmarnock

Please note that.......THIS PUB IS CLOSED AND UP FOR SALE

21 Dec 2012 17:26

The Goldberry Arms, Kilmarnock

still one of Kilmarnocks little gems, if you see a sudden movement, dont worry, its only the Landlord adusting his position on his bar stool

21 Dec 2012 17:24

Wheatsheaf, Kilmarnock

sorry to say, but this Wetherspoons has gone downhill, so much so, that when I returned an undrinkable pint of ale, I was told by the female bar staff, "you are talking rubbish, ust drink it". Iasked for the duty manager, to be told by the same staff member, that "she is to busy for amoaning old git, like you". They refused to change my drink or give me a refund, so I went to the other ale pubs nearby.

Some TWO MONTHS later, I returned to this pub, to be met by the Assistant Manager who was not availabe per above, to be informed that I was barred, for upsetting the female staff member, who had served me a pint of vinegar.

It appears in this Wetherspoons Pub, if you have the balls to complain, then you will, like me "GET BARRED........Avoid this pub at all COSTS

21 Dec 2012 17:19

Wheatsheaf, Kilmarnock

Called in last Sunday. Noted as previous posting, all is well, Tim might like to take some of these staff to train the Perixide blonde male manager at Henglars Circus in Glasgow. The new Fettercain malt was excelent, along with the beam ing smile of the lady in black working the bar.

7 Feb 2011 17:19

Hengler's Circus, Glasgow

Called in last Saturday, waited 10 mins for service from the Manager, maybe its because I am a senior citizen, and not an 18 year old bimbo with busom heaving and fluttering eye lashes, he needs to pay more attention to whose turn it is, and not by gender, But my pint of Dark Island was exquisite, Note to Tim Martin, train your managers to the same standard as your staff.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

7 Feb 2011 16:59

The Old Dog and Partridge, Nottingham

Memories of this pub in 1961, when the vandals used to throw there beer bottles over the wall onto the passing trains below, especially if Forest won their match

24 Jan 2011 15:18

Ride, Nottingham

This used to be called Formans, and was a hoo har Henry type bar, will try it in march

24 Jan 2011 15:12

The Coach and Horses, Nottingham

Heading south from Scotland this coming March, remember when it was called the Coach and Handbags, by reason of the old landlord, Valentine and his boy friends.

24 Jan 2011 15:10

The Smugglers Tavern, Beith

A small inviting pub, main custom base 55+, no real ale, but 10 Malts, and the insults from the gaffa are free of charge.

Beith is on bus routes X34/X36 ex Glasgow and 800 from Paisley, but the later is daytime only and not on Sundays.

24 Jan 2011 14:58

The Masonic Arms, Beith

A real haven for CAMRA members, TWO real ales from Houston Brewing and at least 20 different Malts, main custom base is 50+ age group, but stiil a warm welcome for the non bus pass brigade.

Be warned the last bus to Glasgow is at 8.30pm, stagecoach are scared on this route later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

24 Jan 2011 14:55

The Eglinton Inn, Beith

A good old fashioned local, mixed clientelle, good selection of Malts, however for this reviewer, sadly NO REAL ALE, urgently needed in Beith.

24 Jan 2011 14:51

The Caledonian Inn, Beith

Typical Kiddie pub, perfect for NEDS. also a bit OTT on its pricing.

24 Jan 2011 14:48

The Commodore, Helensburgh

Called in last Saturday week, excellent service, and a porter from Sharps,Rock, Cornwall, aka Padstein! However as this is a good 10 minute walk from the Station, choose your weather carefully, unlike me soaked from rain and gale force 7 on the Clyde. Check out Cardross and Balloch whilst in the area, an SPT daytripper will cost you 10 for the day, and of course print off the Glasgow list from this site.

24 Jan 2011 14:45

The Wheatsheaf, Kilmaurs

Sorry to say that the Manager left just before Christmas, and the owner is going downhill, catering more and more for the NEDS

10 Jan 2011 13:52

The Wheatsheaf, Kilmaurs

I understand this pub is reopening in Two weeks time as an "ALE and WHISKY house. Will advise later when more news comes through

23 May 2010 18:57

The Weston Tavern, Kilmaurs

Nice little village local, only drawback for me. Only ONE ale line but ale is superb and continually changing and the menu looks terrific but yet to sample. Well worth the 3 return from killie on route ! Or the train from Glasgow Central, but watch the time of the last train or 40 plus for a taxi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

22 May 2010 19:50

The Tiber Tavern, Knockentiber

Sorry to report, Currently CLOSED

22 May 2010 19:44

Wheatsheaf, Kilmarnock

Both the above reviews reflect the true picture, On my last 3 visits, the ale was in top condition and the staff a total credit to JDW,s and themselves. Not to sure about the new menu, but the malt selection very impressive. FAR superior than south of the border. NOTE to Tim Martin. More Malts please throughout the empire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

22 May 2010 19:38

The Goldberry Arms, Kilmarnock

The only thing missing from this pub was real ale, however the Malt Whisky selection made up for this.

22 May 2010 19:29

The Brass and Granite, Kilmarnock

Great little back street boozer in Killie. Three real ales on offer, all in tip top condition. Service on my last two visits was excellent. HIGHLY recommended

22 May 2010 19:25

The Salisbury Arms Hotel, Hertford

I agree. Crap service crap beer. for get it.

16 Mar 2010 18:53

White Hart, Hertford

All though a typical Mucky Mullens pub/ It was the only pub to serve a decent pint unlike their so called flagship hotel, where the barstaff could not speak clear english or pull a pint.

The lady on duty was extremely helpfull and was a credit to herself and the company

16 Mar 2010 18:49

The William Aylmer, Harlow

Is th previous reviewer of the Puffball brigade (22 puffs and a sponge ball) I wonder? , my visit last night had me laughing, hearing the Essex Hard Boys, (aka AIRFIX GANGSTERS) trying to talk Welsh off the Conwy Brewery pump clip. On a serious note this beer must be ONE of the best that Tim has GREASY MITS ON, and served to perfection by our GARY. may the lovely GEM and her crew, continue the good work, and keep JDW,s the NUMBER 1 ale house in Harlow.

Submitted by a CAMRA cardholder.

4 Jun 2009 01:57

The Six Templars, Hertford

Last Monday paid my 3rd visit, food hot and served fast, only a few of the "Gods Waiting Room crowd in attendance".(Was there a tory funeral in Hertford that day). Regretfully no Tring Ale to be had, but an excelent pint of Rooster did not touch the sides. Staff most pleasant and attentive. P.S. Has the gloomy blond bimbo left at last?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

4 Jun 2009 01:32

The Old Cross Tavern, Hertford

Read the reviews, so called last Monday lunch time. Guess what?. It was SHUT. O well try gain another time.

One of Harlows hidden gems. The Landlord is of the old school, welcoming, friendly and never in a rush. You may have to wait a couple of seconds for the perfect pint, but truly worth it. Totally recommended for CAMRA minibus crawls.

13 Mar 2009 12:42

Hare, Harlow

Can the brewery owners introduce a weekly guest ale, the only thing that lets this first class pub down.

Warning, this pub is so bad, that most Taxi Drivers will not service the clients. Its a long walk to the station,1.3 miles.

10 Dec 2008 17:21

The Victoria Tavern, Loughton

This must be the BEST pub in Loughton, none of your loud mouth footie fans. 4 quality ales, real staff, not soppy students.A MUST TRY>

10 Dec 2008 17:19

The Royal Oak, Loughton

If you want to meet plastic sudo gangsters, or LOOSE women, its the ideal place, couple of iffy ales, 90% of the males drink wife beater, and the chat is allways about 22 puffs and the magic sponge,(footie).

10 Dec 2008 17:16

The Cock Inn, Bishop's Stortford

Yet another fault free visit, this pub goes from strength to strength, since the Enfield heavy left.

5 Nov 2008 13:15

The Red Cow, Bishops Stortford

A touch of Brum down south.Great Landlord, normally not open till 4pm in the week.A pub where you can hold a conversation without shouting.

5 Nov 2008 13:12

The Three Tuns, Bishops Stortford

This is a very good pub,David the landlord knows how to keep his ale at its best, excellent pint of Abbott,( in my book the only decent Greene King Product). It would appear the previous scribe went on the wrong night.

5 Nov 2008 13:10

The First and Last, Penzance

On last visit 24th oct, several quality ales to be had,if the dog barks, bark back. Landlord a right jack the lad.

31 Oct 2008 14:54

The Alexandra, Penzance

Visited last weekend. Now owned by Skinners, all ales (5) superb. Only downside, the scalextrix has GONE, taken by the previous Landlord, where to? anyone to help this question.

31 Oct 2008 14:52

The Sir Humphrey Davy, Penzance

last visit was in March. Staff friendly and helpfull. Couple of very doubfull youths were ejected very quickly by the no nonsence manager. Very pleasant pub worth a visit.(P.S where has the lapdancing pole gone too!)

TrIed it out last March, and will be in this weekend 24/10/08. The reason is FOOTBALL IS BANNED.

21 Oct 2008 16:14

The Yacht Inn, Penzance

Peter must be the best landlord in PZ. All ales served in tip top condition, dining menu has excellent choice, Accomadation in tip top condition and a breakfast to die for. My regular hotel when in the area. And its pooch friendly. You have to use the pay and display parking during the summer season.

21 Oct 2008 16:10

The George Hotel, Bishop's Stortford

On my last visit "Inchie" actually smiled, has he gone soft since he is single again, or is he crying every Saturday after the forest result is announced.

21 Oct 2008 14:33

The Black Lion, Bishop's Stortford

Ryanair,s off duty H.Q. Not for CAMRA members, but ok for pilots and their trolley dollies.

21 Oct 2008 14:29

The Jolly Brewers, Bishop's Stortford

This must be the PREMIER ALE HOUSE in Stortford, good homemade food at lunchtimes, normally 6 real ales and 30+ malts, good quiz most Sundays. The only downside, The Landlord and his son are Spurs fans. (how sad is that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

21 Oct 2008 14:26

The White Lion, Sawbridgeworth

Typical Greene King outlet!

20 Oct 2008 15:44

The Gate, Sawbridgeworth

Perhaps the BEST pub in Sawbo. Never had a indifferent pint, and Toms micro brews are the highlight of each visit.

20 Oct 2008 15:42

The Rising Sun, High Wych

Just what the Doctor ordered, Gary is passonate about his ales direct from the barrel,(if you are a sad B, John Smiths smooth is on). no screaming brats in sight, No pooltable or jukebox. Just a good old fashioned boozer. What more could you ask for. If coming by train then Harlow Town is best 25 mins from Liverpool Street, suggest you come in group to share the 10 cab fare.As the village only gets 4 busses a day!

20 Oct 2008 15:39

The William Aylmer, Harlow

Gemma is taking this pub from strength to strength, its a pity the gnomes of Watford dont give her full backing. Perhaps semtex up the back passage will help.

The Three Horseshoes Inn, Great Parndon

the New Landlord of 6 months is doing his best to turn the pub around following the departure of the mincing bulldog back to Brighton. Only problem with the ale selection, is Punch Taverns poor selection.

Landlord rating 8/10.

The Garnon Bushes, Coopersale

Well what can I say, 3 top class ales, and the food I had was superb. None of your boil in the bag rubbish unlike the "Kings Head" in North Weald. If you are in the area this is a must. 4 in a taxi from Epping Tube ia money well spent. GIVE IT A TRY YOU WILLNOT BE DISAPOINTED.

The Kings Head, Epping

A bit of a mess.Adnams x 2, 9 malt whiskys, food by Brakes, not a recomendation

The Spotted Dog, Epping

O.K, if you into 22 wuffs and a wind filled pigs bladder dribling between to nets with constant use on the field of the magic sponge. But if you want to have a real conversation try elsewhere.

Billie Jeans, Epping

I another pub turned into a nursery for "credit card Charlies" and the ladies? well, make up applied with a trowel, probably polifilla. perfect for the two pints and a fight brigade.

The Black Lion, Epping

Now Steve is the new Landlord, this pubs quality has increased by 200%. its a pity the ale selection is the usual "Punch" apology.

The George Hotel, Bishop's Stortford

The Nottingham Forest mad Manager should be approached with caution. The drinks may be a tad expensive, however as a regular, I know the INSULTS are totally free of charge.

The Rose and Crown, Bishop's Stortford

By Green King standards this pub is above average, however lack of guest beers is regretfull. The Landlord should sleep with a coat hanger in his mouth, so that he may SMILE to his customers.

The Cock Inn, Bishop's Stortford

this pub is 1,000% better under the new landlord. good real ales.

The Jolly Brewers, Bishop's Stortford

The Iron Lady, is not to be messed with, as there are to many regulars to protect her, this pub is so safe ladies can be safe alone whilst waiting for their friends

The William Aylmer, Harlow

At last we have a Manager with passion for running what is basically the only Real Ale house in the town centre. Gemma is a lady who respects her clientelle and is happy to take on board any suggestions from her customers.
