The North Star, Ealing

I hadnt been in here for quite a while so popped in last night for a couple of beers after work after hearing about the refit.

It looks like the place is more a American Bar/Diner than pub, which is not a bad thing, and the food comming out looked good. However I ordered a pint of Adnams which was dead and very "tangy", so backed that and replaced with a pint of Breakspear which was also dead which i again backed, which like the ale didnt do down too well with the barstaff. Finally settled with a pint of Becks as the ale is obviously not cared for.

If yor not an ale person then this is probaly a great pub, but i wont be going back in a hurry as there are much better ale pubs in the area.

The New Inn, Ealing

Hadn't been here for a while so decided to give it a try.... And I can say that I won't be bothering for a while again.

Very expensive..... Even for ealing prices.... Paid £4.55 for a pint of Heineken which was ok at best. My friend was on the ale and said the the King John was ok but nothing to shout about and the pride was "rank".

To be honest I would avoid as there are a lot better (and cheaper) pubs in less than staggering distance (Castle and the rose and crown).

Shockingly Expensive for poor beer and crap service. Avoid.

Red Lion, Ealing

The Red Lion is a great pub and has rightly won many awards for the quality of the beer served here (Fullers) with CAMRA awarding it the bet pub in the west London area for numerous years running. I can say that the Pride and the Chiswick ales are prob the best that you will get in the area. The food is freshly cooked and the menu changes on a regular basis, with daily specials on the black board with the burgers being very good. The pub it self is very nice and traditional with a lovely covered court yard garden in the back which is a bit of a sun trap in the summer.

Now having waxed lyrical i will have to say like other reviews that the prices are a bit extortionate, to the level that most of my friends have stopped drinking here. I know that its sounds a bit petty and it would be if the price rises had been minimal, but over night almost 40p was put on to a pint. And at 4.05 for a pint of Peroni I think that its a bit of a liberty.... you only just get charged that in tourist traps of the west end!

It is a shame really that this has, for me anyways, tarnished what is a great pub.

The Forester, West Ealing

I used to drink in here a bit, and its always been a quiet regulars pub. Joe the Landlord can be a bit brisk and customers service isnt his strong point. However like most "local" pubs once you get known and know the regulars and staff its a good boozer for a quiet couple of pints and a chat....... lively and bustling this isnt.

The Thai Resturant is very hit and miss and last time i ate there i decided that i wouldnt bother again, there wasnt anything hugely wrong with the food, but it wasnt exactly special.

Having said all of the above, word is that Joe is selling the pub and it has been bought by the same owners of the Kings Arms In Ealing Broadway, so worth keeping an eye on the pub for delveopments. As anyone who remembers the old kings arms will agree that the change has made this pub.

The Drayton Court, West Ealing

Huge Pub with an awesome garden. Well worth a visit for the ales (Mostly Fullers with the occasional Guest) which are well kept. The food is a bit hit and miss but the nibble plates are worth a look if theres a group.

The pub is very child friendly and sunday seems to be the busiest of all, so if you are not fond of the idea of kids pubs doing kid type things then i would advise against going there for sunday lunch. I personally dont mind, however i did notice some scowling looks and overhear a few dirisery words about the number of kids in the pub from some of the other patrons.

Also a good pub for all the usual sports.

Worth a look.

The Star and Anchor, West Ealing

As mentioned before, the pub has gone under an extensive referb, and its defenatly for the better. Its not more of a gastro pub feel with the usual dark wood and dark seating which seems to work here.

It was nice to see that there was two ales on tap, with Duchers IPA and what i believe an amber ale that is made for the bar (i could be mistaken as i had a few). Both we very will kept and the range of lagars seemed to be good.

We didnt eat when we visited but the menu looked good and the food that we saw passing looked very good indeed.

Well worth a visit and a change from the Castle which has become a bit stale (IMO).

Barracuda, Ealing

Would rather eat my own arm than enter this dump again.

Avoid like the plague.

The Shanakee, Ealing

I aways avoided the Shanakee as it looks like a bit of a dive and usually has a few "hardened Regs" sitting outside, however it you can get past that you will find that the pub a bit of a gem.

As you would expect for an Irish pub the Guinness is very good and there is a good selection of whiskeys. The staff are very good and can handle a crowd, and a row of Guiness's settling on the bar is not an uncommon site.

They often have live bands on the weekend and the sport is always on.

Defenately worth popping in for a quick one or two.

The Wheatsheaf, Ealing

A cracking pub which serves a decent pint of Pride and Chiswick (as well as all the other Fullers staples).

Always show the football/rugby and a lot of other sports, so if this is not your cup of tea, avoid on match days as it can get packed.

Always welcoming, and the current manager/landlord is a credit to the brewery.

Worth seeking out as its a little of the beaten track if you dont know Ealing.

The Grange, Ealing Common

I used to drink here quite bit before the make over a few years back, however as mentioned in previous reviews that after the revamp the service was poor at best so I started drinking elsewhere.

However it was a nice evening last night so I thought that I would give the place a try again as I remember the garden was always nice and chilled (a rarity in Ealing Broadway) . And I have to say on first impressions I was pleasantly surprised, it seemed nice a relaxed with an ok selection of beers and ales (Youngs on pump). However I was instantly reminded of why I decided to stop drinking here when it took an age to get served as one of the two bar staff on was far to busy chatting to a friend to even notice that we were standing there, When I finally got served I was shocked that a pint of Krirn and a flat pint of font lemonade was 8+ to add insult to injury the Pint of Kirin was dead. So we decided to cut our losses and agree not to return.

Its a shame because the Pub itself is nice and the location is great for a chilled pint or two, what really lets it down is the ridiculous pricing a poor service.
