Just moved to the area and can say what a nice and friendly welcoming pub be it its staff and customers, usually 2 ales on which the customers decide.
Monday - Bingo night 2030 start
Tuesday - Cask Ales 2 a pint
Usually a live act on at the weekends
It seems to be the pub for the over 30s in the village with the Robert Peel attracting the younger crowd.

The Old Crown, Hesket Newmarket
really nice friendly local pub far enough away from the tourist trap of the lakes, convienient timings on the 73 bus allow 3 hours here on a Saturday afternoon, enough time for trying all the ales and having a leisurely lunch.

only popped in for a pint and was treated nicely by the barmaid who explained the different ales

The Linton Holme Inn, Carlisle
popped in here during the bad winter we just had walking down from the Swallow Hotel, really warm welcome, think it may have been a district darts event, but was still a great place for a quiet pint in a lively local
31 May 2011 19:55
only one ale on, theakstons bitter, nice exterior and interior, could make more of this with a few more varied ales on
31 May 2011 19:51
really nice wetherspoons with nice attentive and fast, not too fast staff.
31 May 2011 19:48
we popped in trying to find something to eat and had missed serving times by 10 mins the barmaid was adamant we couldn't have anything basic such as a sandwich, we ended up getting the 79 bus into Keswick for food at The Dog.
Think it has too much of a monopoly so doesn't really care what folk think.

The Drunken Duck Inn, Barngates
bit of a walk from the 505 Ambleside to Coniston bus route, not the half mile on the sign at the lane end. Really loud hyperactive barman that just wouldn't be quiet, the restaurant sealed off to drinkers on a saturday at 3pm making the bar cramped, had one pint and left.
31 May 2011 19:42
staff too busy chatting to their mates, beer extremely cold and always pale types.
bit bare and basic, rather be in the albion or the angel

Porter's Ale House, Warrington
spit and sawdust pub with sticky tables and a few ales...always feel as if we've disturbed the local crowd in there
31 May 2011 19:38
brilliant pub, friendly staff who are happy and proud to be part of this pub, they tell u the history, the plans, the tasting notes...how pubs that are not food orientated ought to be with a nice lounge on one side and a bar on the other.
Always our first stop on a ale crawl of Warrington as it is equidistant between Central and Bank Quay
31 May 2011 19:35
Nice pub not too far a walk from the town centre and railway stations...nice range of ales and quiet room (now green) for a good chat and catch up away from the buzz of the bar.
31 May 2011 19:31
we were at the cnal festival in the basin and the staff were very helpful with the huge amount of people who turned up and brought drinks outside to us
31 May 2011 19:28
odd feeling with this pub...we were the only people in here on a Weds evening and the barmaid looked bored senseless...only one ale on.
31 May 2011 19:26
Always seems busy and the staff rushed off their feet...the food is nice if you can find somewhere to sit. Quite expensive, other cheaper places for the same feel in Chester.

Popped in here from the railway station having got tired of forever queueing and the poor service in Harkers.
Now have a new better place to visit, staff attentive, food choice good, bit of a wine bar feel to it.
Good range of ales, 6 or so pumps.
Has a house ale.

Penny Street Bridge, Lancaster
Excellent place for food, after an awful meal with associated service in the Water Witch we went here for a change, excellent meal and ale, attentive table service.
Would definitely go again.

The Limeburners Arms, Nether Kellet
Absolute stunner of a pub from days gone by, but great for it, flag flooring, open fires, two ales on on my last visit, theres a snug to the right as you go in and a bar to the right which houses the actual bar. Landlord friendly and welcoming, locals also.
Would not hesitiate in going in again.

Really nice pub, good looking food too.
Great selection of ales, would happily revisit.
And we had travelled from Cricklewood.

Jennings House that has two pumps wth Snecklifter and Cumberland.
Good caberet acts and friendly regulars

Great pub that serves the usualy Greene King range, great food, quick service and friendly staff, good on a warm day to sit on the quay side.
Recommend.

Never quite understand the hype behind this pub.
Its average at best.
harrassed looking staff, disgusting toilets, average beer quality (probably due to the large range) and always dirty with glasses, plates, and dirty looking floor, yet always busy.
9 Aug 2010 13:12
Great little pub in the heart of the city, hopefully this was what all pubs were like.
Downstairs seems full of local elderly clientele with the two real ale pumps there.
Upstairs is more gay friendly and affords a good mix of people who all get on.
Great atmosphere, good beer, and reasonable prices.
9 Aug 2010 13:08
A very different concept to real ale provision, friendly staff, and friendly regulars advising you on your choice. Only a handful of tables so can get a bit busy.
9 Aug 2010 13:05
Walked in waited for the barmaid (landlady?) to serve us, she looked at us and continued to gossip with a regualr, we left, looked like a Tetleys house no actual clips on the pumps so unclear to what was available.
9 Aug 2010 13:03
Walked in and it was full of screaming kids, piles of plates and glasses on tables and bored looking staff, we walked straight back out again.
Might be nice on other occasions.

Agree with Paul_ove_walldner's post
Was in here on 07/08/10 and its always a good atmosphere and has an excellent choice of ales and friendly service.
9 Aug 2010 13:00
Similar style to the Harkers Arms, the staff can be a bit snooty.
The ale selection is good as is the quality, just the atmosphere and staff need to be a bit more customer friendly.
9 Aug 2010 12:58
Great value food, legendary portion sizes!
A Jennings Pub with the usual Cumberland and Brakspear on offer.
Very busy all week at lunchtimes.
9 Aug 2010 12:48
The Dog and Partridge, Preston
Nice pub with no trouble and young staff that actually know about the beers on offer.
Toilets are a lot to be desired but the rest of the pub is spot on.
9 Aug 2010 12:46
NOW CLOSED - Local Rumours it is to be bought by the manager of the local oddbins and turned into a winebar.
9 Aug 2010 12:45
Good choice of ales, typical back street local with regualr comedy nights.
9 Aug 2010 12:43
Now changed to a 'boutique' bar along the same lines as Forum in the city
9 Aug 2010 12:43
Has had a change of manager the past few months and now has cheaper prices at specific times, attracting the hardened drinker.
No real ales, nearest is John Smiths Smoothflow.
Food is good value and decent portions.

The Halfway House, Edinburgh
Decent food and ale, pity about the foulmouthed and offensive barman/landlord, abrubt attitude muttering under his breath really spoiled our visit here, after one pint we went to the guilford.
