The Red Lion, Shirley

Clearly tippler123 has been supping too much eurofizz at the sarrers. Where did the idea of lager drinkers being poor come from? Not from my words certainly. Went in the sarrers yesterday and sadly found it doesn't actually sell beer - it has Guinness, that dreadful smoothflow and loads of cold frothy tasteless lagers, which clearly are its main selling point. I live on planet earth does tippler live on planet "chip on shoulder"?

The Centurion Inn, Walton

We've just come back from a short break in Cumbria and used this pub each evening for food and drink. The place itself is unremarkable apart from the beautiful fireplace and fire. We found the staff friendly and the food of a good standard. There was a shortage of meat dishes ie no steak but that was fine for us as we don't go for a lot of meat. Prices are on the high side but you are really out in the sticks so I suppose you can expect that. The beer garden overlooks the field and fells of Cumbria and the beer itself is excellent - Timothy Taylor, Jennings and a new local microbrewery too.
All in all a great place to go.

Queens Head, Coventry

Tried this pub after a walk in the country. Its really very nice. The beer is good and the staff very friendly. The food we had wasn't exceptional and one of our party had cause for complaint but the complaint was dealt with by a replacement meal and a refund and with good grace- not something you always encounter in the catering trade. Would like to try it in the evening. The grade is for the pub- not the food

Golden Lion, Soho

Tried this pub for an early avening drink; first time I've ever paid 3.30 a pint. Barmaids were friendly enough and there was Sky Sports to watch. Basically it needs closing for a damned good refurb. The seating is in a dreadful state and the furniture look as if it's rejects from Mrs Miggins Pie Shop.

The Tom Cribb, Piccadilly

Went in on a Saturday lunchtime for a pre-theatre lunch. Staff were resonably friendly and the beer was very good, although a little pricey - but then what do you expect for this neighbourhood. My sandwich was fine and others said their jacket potatoes were good. Nice pub considering its in a rather tacky neck of the woods.

The Red Lion, Shirley

Best pub in Shirley - yes I know that isn't difficult but the Red Lion really is a cut above. There is a good variety of beers and the staff are friendly in spite of the 'regulars only' board outside - I assume this is to deter the lager crowd fro the nearby pubs.
Worth going to for a quiet pint or to watch SkySports.

Ye Olde Red Lion Hotel, Market Bosworth

Nice pub with friendly staff, the Pedigree was first class and we even had a half with our breakfast. The interior is a bit cluttered and the food just a good average. None of this comes particularly cheap but then it is in quite a smart village.

The Wellington, Birmingham

Just discovered this pub in the middle of town. What a rare gem. Plenty of interesting beers served well without lots of gas and at a sensible temperature. One assumes there is a good turnover of beer - the place was busy at four in the afternoon. Not the most charismatic interior but nice to have a beer without condiments and bits of cold chip on the table. I'll still visit The Joint Stock but this is a beer drinkers heaven.
