Beer: eclectic range in excellent condition.

Service: erratic, friendly when they have finished their own conversations. This is a frequent event.

The Crown, Blackheath

Saturday lunchtime16 Nov... difficult to assess the beers. They had run out of Master Brew, Spitfire and Whitstable Bay.
Oh a busy Friday night sir.......
Wonder why they don't have spare lines cleaned and simply holding water so they don't run out of Master Brew in a Shep's pub. *

The Queens Head, Piccadilly

Excellent: a proper pub in this area!
Headline above wrong. It's been a free house for over a year.

Real ales from various London breweries are in good condition: knowledgeable staff.
Unpretentious and friendly. A gem.

10 May 2013 12:11

The Devonshire Arms, Piccadilly

Closed down early Dec 2012.

12 Dec 2012 18:52

The Bell House, Camden

Gloomsville.
Garden by canal is saving feature.
Modest real beer range.
Advice: walk two minutes to The Colonel Fawcett.

22 Nov 2012 16:06

The Colonel Fawcett, Camden

Excellent real ales: four on handpump today, kept in good condition.

The pic is accurate. Staff helpful. Glad if found it.

22 Nov 2012 16:02

The Harp, Covent Garden

The best beer and cider pub in London - the universe possibly.

Excellent conditioning of the beers which are served in a friendly and swift manner.

If any pub you use can serve you, from row three, in thirty seconds do please say.

Busy, yes, there is a reason. Friendly interaction, yes - ... it's a pub.

If you want pool, tv or adultery booths it is not for you. *

17 Oct 2012 18:28

The Somerstown Coffee House, Euston

Beers: six real of which two less than 4abv.
Mine was in excellent condition.

Staff: friendly, helpful.

Excellent for area and if you can find it east of Euston it is worth it. Still a pub rather than gastro.

No point of sale price list.
Music: not intrusive.
Clear external notice of opening times.

Well worth a visit. Have no knowledge of evenings. *

Savanna @ The Black Lion Inn , St Albans

Modern Bar/restaurant in oldish street.
The Pride was good and the welcome friendly.
Not a session pub but worth a taste.
Fishponds area is an interesting crawl.

21 Jan 2012 11:56

The Oxford, Kentish Town

Gastro with bar and three handpumps.
Beer kept ok but not inspiring.
Each time had to ask for pint to be topped up.
No visible price list and expensive for modest location.
Why bother unless raining.

29 Dec 2011 17:15

The Pineapple, Kentish Town

Excellent.
A proper pub which is distinct from the local bar-gastros. Beer range interesting and the ones I had good.
Knowledgeable, friendly welcome in relaxed, back street boozer.
A gem.

The Thai lunch offer looked good.

29 Dec 2011 17:05

The Horse and Groom, St Leonards on Sea

Beer well kept in this locals' local.
Eccentric yes,
in that it is a traditional pub with regulars from a wide range of backgrounds.
The landlord is an acquired delight.
You're not behind a matrix of coffee orders.

Do talk to the locals and enjoy the beers. The wine board discloses some interesting glugs.

Food is rolls so try the excellent, contiguous St Clements restaurant.

22 Dec 2011 13:52

The Calthorpe Arms, Holborn

Well kept Youngs range of beers at reasonable prices in this corner local.
Very male place if that suits. A harkback perhaps.

21 Nov 2011 17:28

The Prince of Wales Feathers, Warren Street

Good range of beers, well kept.
Very expensive so check nearest cash machine *

21 Nov 2011 17:19

The Shakespeare's Head, Holborn

Beer range excellent.
Managed poorly for a busy place.
Also, do be prepared to wait for staff to emerge from the cubby hole on the right of the bar.
Atmosphere: sepurchal *

5 Nov 2011 17:41

The Mad Bishop and Bear, Paddington

A reasonable pub among the poor bars common in most termini/terminuses.
Well kept and served Fullers.
Excellent given where it is *

5 Nov 2011 17:32

The Prince of Wales Feathers, Warren Street

Well kept beers, well served.
Atmosphere that of a busy bar, not a local.
Useful in area *

5 Nov 2011 17:25

The Northumberland Arms, Fitzrovia

Avoid.
Two real ale pumps - one unmarked, t'other badged and was eventually the response was "It's finished.".
So, for a fine example of poor availability and service this is a must.
The external canopy was helpful in the rain.
Go to Prince of Wales Feathers in Warren St. as we did *

5 Nov 2011 17:21

The Duke of Kent, Ealing

Excellent, many-roomed, proper pub.
Well kept Fullers served in friendly way.

5 Nov 2011 17:08

Kings Head, Deal
