The Royal Oak, Crockham Hill

I used to pop in here prior to a beer tasting evening at the local Westerham Brewery so I haven't visited for a few years. The pub remains very welcoming and I enjoyed a warm pork and apple sandwich washed down by a couple of pints of Westerham's finest, in this instance a single hop Ahtanum and the Grasshopper.

Dogs were welcome in the area to the right of the small bar and there is a more formal 'restaurant' area to the left.

Well worth a visit if you are walking in the area or just passing by. The pub is shut 3pm to 5pm Monday to Friday.

The Crown, Eltham

Closed and boarded up a couple of years ago. Recently sold and site acquired by Altitude Assets.

I would be surprised if this is re-opened as a pub.

The Long Pond, Eltham

Away from the High Street but well worth the walk. Like similar micro pubs this closes between 2.30 and 5. Good range of 'local' beers and well priced at £3.20 to £3.40 a pint. Excellent place to while away a couple of hours.

The Tyburn, Marble Arch

Popped in after a trip to Wembley as the Metropolitan Bar next to Baker Street tube station had been closed by the police. Unfortunately there appeared to be only one draught beer on tap and prices started at £4.20 upwards. On the basis a pint of Shipyard American Pale Ale had cost me £2.49 earlier in the week in my local Wetherspoons I decided there were better places to spend my money.

The Doric Arch, Euston

My first visit for several years before a trip to Wembley. This remains a hidden gem with a good selection of Fullers and guest beers aided by attentive staff. We were so impressed that we returned after the match to top up.

I can't think of a better railway station pub.

The Foundry, Canterbury

Down from London for the day and this was the main pub on my list. The staff were very welcoming and the place had a good ambience with blues music playing softly in the background. An excellent range of cask and keg beers plus a selection of local ciders.

Tastings included Foundry Torpedo, Man's Gold and Street Light Porter (cask), Foundry IPA and a completely bonkers 9.6% Canterbury Itzamná Chocolate Vanilla Porter (both keg). My only complaint would be that the beers were slightly too chilled when poured, otherwise a firm 8 out of 10.

The food looked good as well so maybe next time.

The Greyhound, Bromley

9 months on and this is our regular lunchtime haunt. Standards remain high and the 7 guest ales on display are regularly changed. It remains an eatery rather than a drinker's pub but we can always find a spare table. The fact that the place is always busy says it all. Prices are currently 2.55 for the guest beers. OK not all of them will be up to scratch but they seem to get it right 9 times out of 10. There remains plenty of variation of styles and it does come down to individual tastes.

The Tom Foolery, Bromley

Although I haven't visited yet the Barrel and Horn is now open. Apparently it is still officially a Fullers pub.

The Tom Foolery, Bromley

Going, going, gone. The Tom Foolery is no more with a new venture The Barrel and Horn opening shortly. For Fullers' drinkers you just have to move a couple of doors along to The Partridge.

Euston Tap, Euston

Paid a visit for the first time last week. I keep seeing the word pricey in reviews but I paid 3 and 2.90 for the pints I had. Even the Thornbridge Jaipur was only 3.50 a pint. The minimum I am paying in Bromley is 3.35 a pint!

Another reason to venture north of the Thames.

The Greyhound, Bromley

Re-opened today as a Wetherspoons. The rear has been extended to provide more dining space and they were still working on the roof terrace.

The place was heaving when I visited at 1.00pm and although I saw a woman being carried out in the first 20 minutes worse for wear it looks as though it will appeal to women shoppers and a more mature clientele.

The only negative was that a pint of the guest ales was 2.45 (30p a pint more than the Richmal Crompton in Bromley South).

Richard I, Greenwich

Still my favourite pub in Greenwich. Away from the crowd and with a large back garden area. Young's ordinary always goes down well and my dog appreciates the dog biscuits. The only downside appears to be the high staff turnover.

The Partridge, Bromley

Never disappoints. Pricey but the beers are always well kept (London Pride, ESB, Discovery and normally a George Gales) and the staff very efficient. A pleasant environment that attracts an older crowd.

The Red Lion, Bromley

This has to be the best pub in Bromley. Spent a very pleasant lunchtime outside in the sunshine supping Greene King's seasonal ale 'Bonkers Conkers'. Always 5 well kept beers on tap; IPA, Abbot, Harveys Sussex Best and 2 guest ales. Well done Chris and team.

O'Neills, Bromley

Oh dear. Popped in one afternoon last week for a farewell drink. Service abysmally slow despite an absence of customers. Besides our group I doubt there were more than half a dozen other people in there. The choice of 'beers' was pitiful. If you didn't want Guinness (Extra Cold only) or Guinness Red then hard luck. Smithwicks and a couple lagers 'off'.

Clearly only there for the evening yoof.
