The Kings Head, Napton on the Hill

This is a great place. It is owned by Hook Norton, rather than some PubCo, so as long as you don't mind drinking their Ale's, you wont go far wrong.

The Menu is varied, good value and high quality. The Licensee is passionate about what he does, and this shows, right the way through.

Keep up the good work!

The Harvester, Long Itchington

Consistently good. Great rotating Ale, and fantastic Steaks. This is the difference when you can do your own thing as a Free House, and are not tied to some God-Awful PubCo. Dont change anything - all is good here!

24 Jun 2014 16:25

Green Man, Long Itchington

This is a strange one. I have now visited three times, and whilst the beer is mediocre at best, the entire bar staff appears to be made up of under-age girls that are welded to their mobile phones, texting and tweeting, rather than actually doing what they are (presumably?) paid to do, and serve thirsty punters!

24 Jun 2014 16:23

The Great Western, Bishops Itchington

Appears to be closed.

24 Jun 2014 16:20

The Folly, Napton on the Hil

Great little find, tucked away on the canal and hidden from view. Found it on an arduous cycle ride and got stuck into the Old Rosie cider....needless to say I wobbled most of the way back to Stockton!

24 Jun 2014 16:19

The Duck On The Pond, Long Itchington

Nothing has really changed here. The place still has a "village hall" feel to it, there is seldom any decent beer on, and the owner seems to be running around in total disarray most of the time.

24 Jun 2014 16:18

Buck and Bell, Long Itchington

It all appears to have gone downhill since Adam, Katie and a few other long-standing members of the Team have left.

Not somewhere that I would go out of my way to visit anymore, sorry!

24 Jun 2014 16:16

The Bell Inn, Ladbroke

A follow-on from my last review.

This is easily the best pub in a 10 mile radius of Southam. Excellent, consistently well kept Ale, great food, and a highly professional and friendly team. I go here regularly, and if you were ever curious as to how a village country pub should be run, then call in when you are next passing....the place is superb!

24 Jun 2014 16:13

The Avon, Southam

Looked very pleasant from the outside, but the Landlord as telling me that he found it virtually impossible to do anything to improve the food and beer, as he was stuck with Enterprise who clearly want to run it into the ground. A shame really. As a consequence, the village does not seem to want to support it.

24 Jun 2014 16:11

The Hole int' Wall, Bowness on Windermere

An odd one this...pleasant enough beer and a good range. Found the pub to be raucous and full of teenage girls wearing next to nothing, and this was a t 5PM! But that aside it was ok. My only gripe would be with the dis-interested barmaid called Sara, who wanted to spend more time talking to her colleague than looking at the queue of punters waiting to be served!

22 Aug 2013 11:30

The Plough Inn, Upper Boddington

Found this place by complete accident over the weekend, after searching in vain for a pub that served a decent pint. (see other recent reviews) What a refreshing change to be met with a warm welcoming smile by the girl behind the bar, (several) excellent Timmy Taylors served on Gravity, and a great overall experience. Southam to Boddington is quite a hike, but I shall go again based upon this experience.

2 Aug 2012 08:10

Crown, Stockton

An experience not to be repeated for me....

1 Aug 2012 20:19

Holly Bush Inn, Priors Marston

Nice Pint of Doom Bar. I didnt eat here, as the Hooray-Henry's taking up most of the bar area put me off. I may revisit soon, where I will update this thread.

1 Aug 2012 20:18

Buck and Bell, Long Itchington

Kind of gone off this place just lately......I do resent pointing out stale bread served to me, and no acknowledgement whatsoever. I wasn't after a reduction in the bill....just an apology would have been enough! I guess the 'familiarity breeds contempt' theory is alive and kicking then? Will give it a miss until the staff have worked out who has written this...if they care at all, that is!

1 Aug 2012 20:14

The Bell Inn, Ladbroke

Had a nice bit of lunch in here the other day...Tribute in fantastic condition....food also pretty good. This pub was empty at lunchtime....why? It does deasl on food that are better value than buying a Meal-Deal from Tesco's round the corner.....it deserves to succeed. Come on Ladbroke residents, get behind the place...use it or lose it!

1 Aug 2012 20:10

Wharf Inn, Fenny Compton

Called in after a disappointing visit to a recommended place in Chacombe.....whilst the Pub is tired and the windows are falling out of their rotting sills, the Ale was spot-on. My Partner's wine glass was sticky and had someone else's lipstick on it though...not good enough to warrant any further bar spend in my book.

1 Aug 2012 20:08

George And Dragon, Chacombe

Made a special journey here as it appeared to be highly recommended, with a good website. Initial disappointment in being served an Everards Tiger which was clearly at the end of its life was further compounded by the two Steak Sandwiches that arrived, both served on stale bread, chewy, pretty bare and more butter in there than Dairy Crest produce in a week! At 7.50 odd a throw, you would like to think that the bread would at least be up to scratch. Disappointed.

1 Aug 2012 20:01

Bull Inn, Southam

looks closed.

11 Jun 2012 15:22

The Market Tavern, Southam

The only Pub that I have ever walked into for the first time and refused to drink anything. This was based on the lack of personal hygiene of the young lady behind the bar back in November 2010, and I have not dared to revisit the place since, as I am concerned that if I touch anything, bodily parts will drop off!

11 Jun 2012 15:21

The Black Dog, Southam

Popped in yesterday to see what the refurb was all about....6 Truncheons on the bar, which was an encouraging spectacle. Whilst not a fan of Banks/Marstons, I am pleased to report that both were in excellent nick, and served with a nice smile....makes a hell of a difference, so kudos for that. I look forward to seeing what upcoming Ale's arrive on the bar, and will visit again.

11 Jun 2012 15:13

Harte and Magpies Pub, Coleshill

Ah yes, the ever talented 'daverrm' with yet another quality posting. How is business up at the Royal Standard then Matthew, sorry...'daverrm'? Are there ANY lower levels to which you will not stoop to defend your 'business ventures'?

I'll undoubtedly see you for 'Poetry Reading'....make sure that you raise your prices EVEN HIGHER that night...and don't forget to bung the BFP Reporters a few Pints so that they write another deceitful review.

15 Nov 2011 09:47

The Duck On The Pond, Long Itchington

Southam Local, I can assure you that I am NOT a "competitor" posting a negative review. I am a visitor who posted an accurate review based on my experience at the time. I therefore await your apology!

This Pub has been recently renovated, and is at least now bright and clean. The Menu looked reasonable, and I had a good Pint of Youngs on my recent visit. I am looking forward to visiting the Long Itchington Beer Festival, where I shall update this post accordingly. That is all.

5 Apr 2011 09:04

Merchants, Warwick

Popped in for lunch here on Wednesday. No Beer on offer, so a review of this place, like it's existence on this site, is a bit pointless. Food OK, marred only by miserable front of house foreign blonde, who glared obtrusively at any customers that dared to enter, myself included!

2 Apr 2011 11:12

The Crown Inn, Harbury

Called in here for lunch today, having heard some good things locally about this place.

Was greeted with a friendly warm welcome from Giuseppe and Cinda, and this was followed by a fantastic Pint or 2 of Hooky. Despite being sub-zero temperatures outside, the Cellar temperature was spot on, as the beer was in excellent nick!

Food-wise, it was absolutely outstanding from start to finish. Huge portions, freshly cooked, favourably priced....we are both very jealous that the residents of Harbury have this little gem on their doorstep. We will be back very soon to sample the evening Menu, as everything about this place pointed to a pleasant experience.

27 Nov 2010 15:43

Harte and Magpies Pub, Coleshill

More positive posts by the staff and owner's, in a pathetic attempt to whip up undeserved custom.

'Barbeerian'...in your post you claim to have "popped in for a quick half", yet then go on to claim that you had "a good pint of beer"! So which is it to be then??!

'oddbits'...you claim that you can justify charging ridiculous prices on drinks given the quality? How does that work then? Cask Ale is either kept well...or not! There is no Premium chargeable for selling distinctly average Ale, averagely, I can assure you!

Finally,...

'daverrm'...is that really you, Matthew O'Keefe...Master at manipulating Awards for yourself, and duping various illiterate Hacks that work for the Bucks Free Press?? Are you sure?? 'cos we all KNOW that it's really YOU....you complete TIT!

16 Nov 2010 09:53

The Red Lion, Hunningham

Liked this place....3 Cask Ales on when I went there, all of which in good nick and perfect temperature. Would call in again soon when passing...

15 Nov 2010 22:28

The Bell Inn, Ladbroke

Had a nice lazy Sunday afternoon in here....under new (ish) Management, and seem to be doing a reasonable job. Beers on were London Pride, Tribute and Hooky. Can't ask for much more than that can you!

15 Nov 2010 14:41

The White Horse, Leamington Spa

Popped in for a Pint of Cask Ale at 4.30 this afternoon....nothing wrong with it, or the service from the Staff. I intend to revisit one evening...the Wine Club on a Tuesday looks interesting.

3 Nov 2010 19:47

The Duke, Leamington Spa

Looks promising from the outside...a long 60' Bar....and NO Cask Ale WHATSOEVER!!! What a joke!!!

3 Nov 2010 19:37

The Copper Pot, Leamington Spa

Deceptive from the outside....looked reasonable, but walked in this afternoon to find it virtually empty. Waited at the Bar for a few minutes...no sign of anyone, so walked out! Bizarre disappearing Staff...and I was thirsty so couldn't wait forever!

3 Nov 2010 19:35

The Grapes, Oxford

Fab little Pub, with 4 great Cask Ale's on at the time of my visit.

2 Nov 2010 08:38

The Duck On The Pond, Long Itchington

Cold, dark, and only one Cask Ale on. Somewhat disappointing.

21 Oct 2010 15:18

The Boat Inn, Birdingbury

Funny little place. The Barman was wearing a Hoodie-cum-Beanie hat, and looked somewhat vacant! Not sure that I wanted to spend time or money in here, so had a swift Hooky (reasonable nick) and legged it!

21 Oct 2010 15:17

The Malt Shovel Inn, Gaydon

Visited today in passing, and had an excellent Pint of Everards. I was first through the door at 12.05, and the beer was immaculate, and had clearly been pulled through very clean lines.
I noticed that they had no less than 4 other Cask Ales on, and will definately return here....only next time, I'll make the missus drive!!

19 Oct 2010 15:19

The Royal Oak, Farnham Common

OK if you want a typical Chef&Brewer Microwave lunch....wouldn't call it a pub in any sense of the word though.

10 Oct 2010 20:09

The Squirrel, Amersham

Not a good experience. Ignorant dis-interested revolting specimen that vaguely passed for a female behind the bar, that clearly didn't want to be there for the Sunday lunchtime shift. I watched her abrasive attitude over 3 seperate customers before she served me, and I received no better wither! Why do Pubs employ these people if they cannot at the very least look as if they want to be there. It's beyond me.....

Anyway, Courage Best, Black Sheep and that was it......poor selection. It had more to offer when it was controlled by Fullers some 5 years ago, and that's saying something!!

10 Oct 2010 20:04

Royal Saracens Head, Beaconsfield

Well, in typical M&B fashion, I waited nearly 10 minutes to get served in here yesterday afternoon. The place was reasonably busy, so WHY was there only ONE person behind the bar?! At least the service element was consistent as is the norm for Mitchells & Butler establishments as it was slow as hell. I was so pissed off with the (lack of) interest emanating from the the (lack of) staff, I ordered 2 pints when eventually she got round to me, drunk them (average condition), and promptly left. I'm not going to be in any great rush to go back here, as I will die of thirst waiting! 1/10

4 Oct 2010 16:38

The Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield

Overpriced rip-off. The only positive comments relating to this place are posted by the 'owner', O'Keefe, who masquerades under a variety of pseudonym's, more recently "Rob Healey" The feckin eejit!!

25 Sep 2010 10:18

Crown, Hazlemere High

Bloody Awful!!! First time I've been back in here in 20 years. Had a pint of sour IPA, which when questioned after 1 mouthful, the Barmaid took umbridge. Grudgingly swapped it for a pint of Abbot, which was also undrinkable; they very clearly hadn't cleaned any of the lines. Settled for a J2O in the end, as it seemed the safest bet. The other girl behind the bar took absolutely no notice of this incident, or the 3 customers that were waiting whilst I was trying to get this sorted, and carried on playing with her Netbook and updating her Facebook Profile. This is one I would happily see go to the wall, and it's "staff" for that matter. Pub? You have GOT to be joking....0/10!!

22 Sep 2010 06:48

The Butchers Arms, Bishops Itchington

Called in yesterday en-route to Southam. Had a Pint of Hooky Gold which was only 2.65, which definately made me smile!!

18 Sep 2010 16:58

The Harvester, Long Itchington

Fab Pub, like being stuck in a 70's timewarp before Lie-bore and the Pub Co's wrecked the industry. Great sense of humour by the gents behind the bar, very well kept Ale, and do things ever so slightly differently to the others. I would heartily recommend this place if you like decent Cask Ale, served without pretence. I for one will be visiting again very soon! CAMRA GBG listed for the last 24 years, apparently as well!

18 Sep 2010 16:55

Green Man, Long Itchington

Shocking service by the young blonde chap behind the bar. I asked for a taster of the Guest Ale, but he was so engrossed in his conversation with his chavvy mate at the end of the bar, he pulled a full pint. He didn't break conversation once, even when handing back the change! This is what our Schools are turning out these days...ignorant, inconsiderate NON-Customer focussed kids, that wouldn't get a job cleaning drains, lest of all anything else! 2/10

18 Sep 2010 16:51

The Blue Lias, Stockton

Went here on Bank Holiday Monday....nice clean and tidy Pub, with a well manicured Garden. Beers on offer were the dreaded Abbot Ale, and a well kept Hook Norton offering. In all, I counted 6 Real Ales on Handpull, which indicates that this place does a fair amount of barrel-age. Lady behind the bar perfectly happy and friendly, and it's in a nice location...certainly worth a look for the Beer alone!!

31 Aug 2010 22:32

Roebuck, Warwick

Called in here for Sunday Lunch yesterday, cracking Pub with 5 Real Ales on, very friendly and happy staff, and the BEST piece of Beef I have ever had the pleasure of eating.....no thin slices here, it was one giant chunk, cooked to absolute perfection, with all the trimmings, and heartily washed down with a couple of Pints of IPA....HURRAH!!

Recommended, simple as that. If you are in Warwick, then go....

9 Aug 2010 14:03

The Old Queens Head, Penn

Went here last night for a meal...the Real Ale was appalling, so opted for Red Wine. Food above average, but Service, whilst initially very good, descended into chaos, so much so that when we went to pay the Bill, there wasn't either A) A single Waiter/Waitress to be found, and B) No-one behind the Bar that we could give 120 Cash to either! To all extent and purpose, we could have simply just walked out unchallenged!! Note to Manager: Toughen up with your Staff - they seemed to think that they were there just for a doss! Otehrwise OK-ish.

31 Jul 2010 12:17

Harte and Magpies Pub, Coleshill

It comes to something when the only people that try to paint a picture of this overpriced rip-off are the Staff and Management alike...very sad!

IS THE MESSAGE GETTING THROUGH PEOPLE? NOBODY HAS A GOOD WORD TO SAY ABOUT YOUR RIP-OFF RESTAURANT....SIMPLES!!

29 Jul 2010 23:25

The Dun Cow, Rugby

Had a frankly Bloody AWFUL night in here on friday...nearly 40 minutes to get served by dis-interested teenagers, who couldn't give a toss about their reason for employment, and spent more time talking amongst themselves than watching who was waiting to be served, and in what order.

The Ale was in such poor (Ice Cold) condition, I had to switch to Lager...something I haven't drunk in 15 years, and that wasn't much better. Typical M&B establishment......and just one of the MANY reasons that I detest them as a Pub Co.

27 Jul 2010 16:20

Kings Arms, Cookham

Found the Staff were more interested in having a conversation amongst themselves rather than noticing (several) thirsty Punters patiently waiting at the Bar for service. Can't fault the Pub or the Beer, but the lack of interest displayed by at least 3 members of staff on my recent visit pushes the rating down to 4. TAKE NOTE AND IMPROVE IT!!

14 Jul 2010 19:06

The Ferry, Cookham

Nice location, but the Bar Staff appear to have only one speed - backwards!! One I recognise from his time at the Royal Saracen's Head, Beaconsfield a few years back - he still hasn't improved either!!

14 Jul 2010 19:02

The Woolpack, Stoke Mandeville

Popped in yesterday lunchtime...Purity Ale's 'Ubu', Timmy Taylors Landlord, plus room for 1 other (not on). Seemed very popular with Nurses/Medical Students/Social Workers...can only assume this is due to the nearby Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Not a bad spot...will call in again next time I am passing.

14 Jul 2010 18:56

Two Boats Inn, Long Itchington

Popped in on Saturday after visiting it's neighbour, the Cuttle across the canal. Was gobsmacked to find that they had just put a barrel of my all-time favourite Ale, St.Austell's Proper Job on. Needless to say, the rest of the weekend was spent here...happy days!!

28 Jun 2010 17:27

Cuttle Inn, Long Itchington

Had lunch here on Saturday...hazy sunshine...a PROPER Ploughman's, with plenty of Cheddar to make the health nazi's wince, and a couple of pints of very well kept Purity Ale's 'Ubu"
Very pleasant!!

28 Jun 2010 17:25

Buck and Bell, Long Itchington

Went here for Sunday Dinner this weekend. 4 Real Ale's on, 2 of which were in great nick, the other 2 I didn't have time to try. The Roast Dinner was pretty damn good too....as were the friendly, happy (and good looking) girls who looked after us!! Will definately visit again!

31 May 2010 16:49

The Stag's Head, Offchurch

Went here on Saturday - Beer was very good...had a pint from the Warwickshire Brewery before dinner, which was in good nick. The food was just as good as reported, although this site is about BEER, so that is what I am writing about. Would visit again.

31 May 2010 16:46

The Charles Dickens, Beaconsfield

Pub has recently changed hands, and is now owned by the same couple that have done a rather magnificent job at it's neighbour, The Swan. When I popped in on Sunday, the impact was immediate, as Summer Lightning (an all-time favourite) was on the middle pump, and in damn fine fettle as well!

The previously miserable Manager, Mooch seems to have a sudden spring in his step too, though it may take some time to get used to seeing him smiling! ;-)

19 May 2010 06:12

Harte and Magpies Pub, Coleshill

What relevance 'cavalier' O'Keefe's claims about stranded motorists has to how a Pub is reviewed is anyone's guess!

This Restaurant (as it is by no means a Pub in the traditional sense) is an overpriced Rip-Off!! Simples!!!

Nb: Note to Owner O'Keefe: This site is about Pub's that serve Beer - the clue is in the title. Perhaps you could create your own Review Site....something along the lines of "Overpriced Restaurants purporting to be Pubs.com"??

28 Apr 2010 07:24

The Flint Cottage, High Wycombe

Great Pub - like everything else Paul Campion touches, this will also surely work! Has some fantastic Ale's on in here, and for me, it's just a short roll off the Train Station Platform....Hic!!

17 Feb 2010 11:13

The Mulberry Bush, Amersham

I was under the impression that this Website was intended for genuine, unbiased and frankly honest reviews of Pubs, and NOT for some self-obsessed tw@t of an attempted Landlord to self-promote his ridiculous overpriced establishment? Perhaps I'm wrong....go and check it out yourself folks....see if you concur with my ORIGINAL review of the place. As for you, Matthew O'Keefe, you keep deluding yourself that the Royal Standard is the oldest Pub in England.....you make yourself sound like more of a t1t as each day passes...

Good Bile!!

14 Feb 2010 09:38

The Old White Swan, Beaconsfield

An update to my post of August 2008.
This place goes from strength to strength. It now has a firmly established following, namely largely to three very simple factors:

1) The Beer is kept exceptionally well.
2) The Staff are pleasant, friendly, and actually enjoy working there. No miseries employed here!
3) The Food is awesome. Basic, some might say, but freshly prep'd, good value for money, and served without pretence.

No Pub is perfect - the only downside to this place is that in a very short space of time, it has become a victim of it's own success, and gets absolutely mobbed from Thursday to Saturday, largely due to the amazing musical talent that perform. That said, it's a decent crowd that get in there, the place is well marshalled, little to no trouble, and it has a vibe you need to experience to believe! The Ale is kept superbly, and regularly rotated, and there are a few surprise ones that pop up when you least expect it, that blow your taste bud's apart!

I do hope that it's former 'owners' are reading this Review....these guys have turned a drab, miserable, gossip-hole into arguably THE best Pub in HP9....please feel free to contradict, this is MY opinion, and mine alone.

Well done, and keep it up!! Places like this are scarce enough as it is, and certainly deserve my support, and yours!

24 Oct 2009 21:51

The Mulberry Bush, Amersham

...NOT!!

13 Sep 2009 13:23

The Crown, Chiddingfold

Called in on the way back from Petworth this afternoon....perfectly pleasant place, tastefully decorated. According to the sign outside on the Green, it dates to circa 1250AD, so has stood the test of time well. I had a Pint of Fullers Summer Ale, and my sister had a Pinto f Sharps Doom Bar. Both in excellent condition, however nearly fainted when these two drinks, coupled with two bags of Walkers Crisps came to 8.10!!!!
For the Pub, ambience, quality of Beer, I'll give it 8/10. For the Prices that they charge, unfortunately a 2/10, so overall, only 6/10. Note to Owners: Those prices are extortionate for Real Ale....and the highest that I have paid anywhere in the Country this year! You need to look at it urgently!!

7 Sep 2009 16:28

The Whip Inn, Lacey Green

Went again on Monday to see how it had fared since my review last year. Still fantastic - beer in tiptop condition, food adequate, and whilst a different Barmaid this time, still a warm smile. They must hand-pick these girls, as you never see any chavvy types here - HURRAH!!

Will be back later in the year, keep up the excellent work!

22 Jul 2009 18:09

The Jolly Cricketers, Seer Green

Totally agree with Pubsampler's comments - this Pub was a worthy winner. Unfortunately, it's ratings stem from the time when it was a dump, so the only way to improve the overall score is for ALL the locals to vote for it with it's deserved score. Over time, hopefully, this will push it up to 9 or 10 out of 10, which it deserves!

22 Jul 2009 18:06

The Mulberry Bush, Amersham

Never let it be said that I don't back up my initial assumptions with fact. As a follow on to my comments below in May '09, I visited this somewhat empty place the other evening and was disappointed with only 1 Real Ale on offer. I opted for a Fruit Juice (for a change), whilst my companion had a (post-mix syrup) Diet Coke. This came to nearly SIX POUNDS!! 6 for two soft drinks....I dread to imagine how much a pint would be in here, let alone the food!! On that basis, I refer to my earlier previous comments, and in the words of the old Nan from the Catherine Tate Show...."What a fackin LIBERTY!!" Avoid.

10 Jul 2009 18:18

King of Prussia, Slough

This has since closed since Phil Vickery sold it on and re-opened as the Emperor under new Management. Friendly service, excellent food, and several pints of Timmy Taylors finest to boot......the best thing about this place is that unless you know that it's there.....you'll NEVER find it...which keeps all the tosspots out! Simples!!

22 May 2009 18:03

The Mulberry Bush, Amersham

Recently acquired by the dreadful Matthew O'Keefe, attempted Owner of the Royal Standard. If that place is anything to go by, then this will also be a Faux, Overpriced Rip-Off, populated only by Coachload's of American Tourists who will pay ANY money for a "quaint" bit of British life.....Ye God's.....we're all doomed!

14 May 2009 14:18

The Imperial, Soho

I popped into this place yesterday, as had previously had good experiences on the Real Ale front. I was disappointed that of the 4 Pumps, 2 were IPA 1 was off and 1 was London Pride!!

Settled on the Pride and was poured the most revolting, sour, clump-filled pint I have ever seen! As it was 4 in the afternoon, it was pretty evident that not only had the line never been cleaned this entire year, but nothing had been pulled through it that day either!!

When I complained and asked for an exchange, the ignorant, dis-interested and frankly thick barmaid (English, I might add!) then expected me to pay an additional 65p to change it to a different beer!!! Outraged, I protested and demanded she change it, and she was swiftly over-ruled by presumably her Manager, who was of Eastern European descent.

Frankly, the work ethic shown by our own is nothing short of a DISGRACE, and it comes to something when a foreigner has to show you the art of dealing with a Customer complaint!! I won't use this pub again until aforementioned THICKO BARMAID has been sacked - there's plenty of other boozers in the West End anyway!!! 1/10

14 Feb 2009 08:50

The Falcon, Theale

Called in there for lunch today, and had a clear pint of Pride, and arguably the best Bubble & Squeak with Roast Beef I've had in years!!! Everytime I need to go and see Southern Electric from now on, this will be my lunchtime stop-off! (Nice looking barmaid too!)

28 Oct 2008 18:50

The Mulberry Bush, Amersham

Didn't eat there, but would say the Irish landlord was perfectly welcoming, and the London Pride was perfectly acceptable.

27 Oct 2008 22:23

The Crown Inn, Penn

Nothing wrong with the pub, or the staff, but would have to question the ignorant Patrons that were in there last night....with the exception of 2, EVERYONE left the door wide open when they came in/went out on a damn cold night. No bloody manners or consideration for anyone else, and typifies the arrogance of most people who live in and around the area.

27 Oct 2008 22:22

The Ship Inn, Wandsworth

Not bad at all, served (several) delightful Pints of that old Youngs favourite...Waggledance!!!

Parking is a bit of a nightmare round there, as the Red Caps are constantly on the prowl - I have the luxury of using BEMCO's Carpark opposite though, so not much of a headache for me.

Go try it...you WILL like it...guaranteed!!

25 Oct 2008 10:22

The Old Fish Market, Bristol

Good all-round Fullers house...plenty to choose from including Discovery on Handpull.....nice Barmaid too...one of the better efforts in BS1!!

25 Oct 2008 10:18

Knights Templar, Bristol

I have never been a fan of Wetherspoons, largely owing to the type of Tossers they tend to attract....however, this one is a Gem.

Monster breakfast for under 4, and 6 Real Ales on....in pretty good nick it has to be said! My only real gripe has been echoed below on numerous occasions, and that is that the temperature it is served at is not quite up to scratch, but credit where it's due......they keep a good pint.

The Llandoger, Bristol

Agree with most of the comments below - only Green King IPA on last night - given the size of this place, there should be AT LEAST 5 real ales on....instead they pander to the scruffy scarecrow type of lager drinking students, with prices to match! Shame really!!

The Pitcher and Piano, Bristol

Pretty average really, no real |Ale on last night when I visited....ok crowd, but sadly most of them seemed to work for Orange and had their heads up their arses!!! Nice to see that the same arrogant call-centre mentality exists outside of work too I suppose....NOT!

The Jolly Cricketers, Seer Green

Really pleased to see the effort that has gone into this place....friendly welcome (gorgeous smile BTW blonde Barperson!), and a pretty tidy half of Black Sheep...would have loved to stay for more and some food, as the Menu looked OK too....will be back soon!! A MASSIVE improvement, and just what Seer Green needed!!!!

The Old White Swan, Beaconsfield

Wow...what a difference!!

The previous Miseries have departed, to be replaced by a friendly young couple who really know what they are doing!

Sam is sending wholly decent Grub out of the kitchen, whilst Laurie has a fetish for Real Ale (as do I), and is not scared of trying new ones each week. The Spirit collection on the backbar is pretty interesting too!

For anyone who had the mis-fortune of visiting under it's former "Tennant's", all I can say is give this a go - it's got to be the best Pub in Beaconsfield at present.

The Whip Inn, Lacey Green

I visited this Pub this afternoon, and can honestly say I was not disappointed. A friendly smile greeted me as soon as I arrived by the rather gorgeous girl behind the Bar, and to cool me down I had a Pint of Golden Archer's, followed swiftly by Oxford Gold....both in excellent condition.

The Cheese and Onion Baguette mopped up some of the Ale, and owing to the fact that I had the Chariot outside, I had to call it a day.

I thoroughly intend to visit in October for the Beerfest, and for those who have no idea what a typical English Pub should be like.....get and visit this one!! Probably the wisest decision you'll make all year!!

The King and Castle, Windsor

I visited this Pub yesterday evening with several customers of mine, to kick off a night out. We got there for 7PM, and there were a few people in there, so I thought it was likely to be a good place for everyone (there was a few of us arriving at different times) to meet up.

As I was the one paying, initially I asked if I could leave a card behind the Bar, and was curtly told "No". Slightly taken aback, I asked if there was a particular reason, and was curtly told, again "We don't do tabs" Fair enough, however I pointed out that 16 others would be joining us at various points over the coming hour, so how could we resolve this? The Barman, of foreign Nationality merely shrugged his shoulders and walked away!! Flabbergasted, I exacted my revenge by paying for individual drinks by card every time one of my party arrived, or wanted another.

A potentially good Pub, marred by surly, dis-interested staff who thought they were doing you a real favour by taking your money. What a contrast to Browns down the road, who's staff cannot do enough for you!! What Tourists must think of Windsor is anyone's guess!!! 1/10

The White Hart Hotel, Whitchurch

I echo all the positive comments below - great beer, great food and happy, friendly staff.

I was very impressed with the seafood Lasagne.....it was awesome!! Next time Im in Whitchurch, I shall call in again!

The Royal Standard, Wooburn Common

Ahhhh the Standard....one of the best Traditional Pubs in South Bucks.

If you like Beer, you'll love it here.....just leave the Car at home eh?

Stix Bar, Beaconsfield

Great pub, great Barstaff, and a very well kept drop of Rebellion.....

The Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield

Tourist trap. Outrageous (and unproven) claims about it's history, and not the sort of place I would like to go for a quiet pint.

The Pub industry is on its knees, and places like this are largely the reason why.

The Old White Swan, Beaconsfield

A nice Pub, run by arguably the WORST couple the licensing trade has ever seen!! Thank god they are finally on the move.....good riddance to bad rubbish!
